Just out of intertest , thought I'd start a discussion on the nature of man/woman i.e is there a dichotomy between spirit and body or are we the sum of all these parts i.e body + spirit + mind and also what is the intermediate state of spirit and soul between between death and resurrection ? And if there is a dichotomy between body and spirit , at what point does the spirit enter the body prior to birth?...

One word : The writer is seriously deluded, If 've ever read sensationalist crap , then this has to be it - get real dude!
The masonic link and Russsell have been investgated from almost every angle over a number of decades now and anyone with any reasonable amount of intelligence and interest in the subject knows that these have largely been disregarded. I'm not a Watchtower appologist, but this hinges on lunacy.

Attn: JW's and Bible Students - Lets Discuss John 1:1
by lovelylil inthis verse came up on the thread about whether or not jesus is michael the archangel.
i wanted to discuss it in further detail on a new thread because i think raised on the other thread was an important point about how jw's and bs translate john 1:1.
1in the beginning was the word, and the word was with god, and the word was god.. as we know the nwt adds an "a" to say "and the word was (a) god, when there is no support for this in the ancient greek manuscripts.

It is interesting to note that it is not only JW's that believe Michael The Archangel is Jesus , many Evangelical Christians also believe that this is another title of Jesus, I stand to be corrected but even Billy Graham holds this view.
the Baptist evangelist Charles Spurgeon [10] and the Presbyterian Commentary author Matthew Henry, [11] who believe that the Archangel Michael is not an angel but is instead the uncreated, divine Son of God. In this view "archangel" means "head of the angels" rather than "head angel," and is a title similar to "Prince of the host." (Daniel 8:11
Personally I believe that Michael the Archangel , does have reference to Jesus and that this in no way diminishes his deity , but affirms it - Jesus has the power to become whatever he needs to to . In some way it is similar to Prince Charles or the Queen , who both hold numerous titles including military titles and are considered heads of various organisations , yet still remain Royalty .I dont think we should get too hung up on this issue , ultimately we will only know for certain , when Christ returns - and all things are reveled. It is not an issue that effect s salvation- having a relationship with God the father and Jesus does !

BIGGER FISH TO FRY :
ORU (ORAL ROBERTS UNIVERSITY), which is fighting accusations in a lawsuit that Richard Roberts misspent school funds, is $52.5 million in debt, the chairman of the school's board of regents said last week.
Chairman George Pearsons said maintenance costs and low financial support from donors have contributed to the debt.
Among the accusations the lawsuit makes against Richard and Lindsay Roberts, are that they used school funds to remodel their home 11 times in 14 years, sent their daughter and several of her friends on a $29,411 senior trip to the Bahamas on a university jet, and that they spent school money to provide their daughters with a stable of horses. -

"In 1904 Kent Stoner of Fincastle, Virginia (USA) discovered an unusually hearty strain of wheat growing in his field. He named it "Miracle Wheat". When presented at the Appalachian Exhibition, and the Tennessee State Fair in 1910, it won first prize both times. When Pastor Russell came to hear about this "Miracle Wheat" in 1908 he was excited! Having the "restitution of all things", (Acts 3:19) and the restoration of earth to perfection always on his mind, he believed this was another proof that "restitution" had begun. An associate of Pastor Russell's purchased a large amount of this "Miracle Wheat," and desired to have it sold and the proceeds donated to the spread of the truth. A notice appeared to this effect in The Watch Tower, where Bible Students, and any others interested, could purchase a pound of it for $1. Ultimately $1,800 was raised. Nobody was defrauded. Everyone was well informed. Even the US Government recognized something was special about the wheat. When ministers began to criticize Pastor Russell, he offered a return of money to anyone who requested this. Nobody asked for their money back. "

I had one elder come up to me and say "you know what you have to do" is that a standard line they are given by the KGB to pass on to thos who are d'fd...man it's all so schizophrenic , I know that now they would all go back to the shunning thing should I see any of them again or attend another meeting! I think most JW;s are just ordinary folks, but completely under the spell of the GB. Very sad actually .

My dad passed away in December and I had to fly to South Africa for his funeral. Both my parents and just about all the extended family are devout Witnesses. The funeral talk was held at the local KH. The talk itself was the worst I have ever heard - complete without any emotion whatsoever, however although I am disfellowshipped - almost everyone in the congregation came upto me shook my hand and gave me their condolensces. Some even chatted about my dad and mentioned how much they loved him and what a wonderful man he was. I was surprised and taken back by the concern and warmth shown. My brother and sister who are also devout Witnesses and very active in their congregations were also very warm and loving and it was good catching up with them also.

"All of Israel will be saved" vs JW salvation
by *jeremiah* init seems as if the jw religion in general has much contempt for israel.
correctly me if i'm wrong, but,...in short, the jw religion thinks they have become israel,...."spiritual israel", anyways.
or, in other words, the blessings and promises for israel have been transfered to the wts and it's faithful members.. which brings up an interesting question.

Papha...just a correction regarding Russell - right up until his death in 1916 - he continued to teach that fleshly Israel would be restored to divine favour - this view is still held by the Bible Students Association. It was Rutherford who began to spiritualise these scripture references.
If interetsed in current Bible Student view on Isael see the link http://www.biblestudents.com/FreeBibleVideos.cfm and watch the video Israel Fulfilling Bible Prophecy.
