Birthdays-How Ridiculous the wts is

the celebration of birthdays is banned by the wts.

but from what i have seen from dubs, they actually take it one step further.

they wont even acknowledge someones birthday!

Yes, and giving the gift before or after the actual day without wrapping paper always felt flat and fake. I would point out to other Witnesses that they were just trying to get around the rules, but they would deny it. Very depressing.

I was tired of trying to make up special days to celebrate, and my kids never felt what they were supposed to, because it was all so contrived.. I always felt terrible.

I guess because I was raised with birthdays I knew what they were missing out on. When we did start celebrating everything, the feeling was incredible! It was definitely the right decision, and my kids now have some great memories. It was just another way for the WTBS to separate JW and non-JW families.

Funny, my non-JW family didn't shun us when we decided to be normal again-they welcomed us with open arms just like the Prodigal Son parable. JW's could learn alot about true love from "the world".

two leading oncologists both agree that my daughter bethany might be alive today if she had not been fed arsenic.

as you may recall, the wts arranged to take my sick daughter into hiding for two months and payed a doctor to prescribe arsenic.

the doctor ant the wts lawyers convinced bethany that the arsenic treatment could cure her.

Witnesses will never believe anything other than what they are told to believe. It's hilarious that they always want proof, then disregard it.

I suppose if you visit her grave you will then say that it is a fake just to make the WTBS look bad.

eating disorders in JWs

what would the jehovah's witnesses have to say about eating disorders?

presumably any kind of mental illness is frowned upon and put down to weakness of the spirit.....i know when i was in it, one sister was severely chastised for having depression....she was told to have more faith in jehovah and presumably when she did, her husband would stop beating her and sexually abusing their kids which was understandably the source of her depression!

Hmmmm. Dfed, in my old congregation, the talk amongst people who did seek treatment was the therapist would point out that the religion was part of the problem (depression, what have you), which of course they did not want to hear. It was always said that the therapist "didn't understand" and so would take the prescribed zoloft, etc, but not listen to what counsel the therapists would have. Thus, they have set themselves up for a lifetime of medication but no other changes. Sad.

BTW, they didn't all go to only one therapist. There were several, but they all seemed to come back to the same issues. They felt Satan was trying to lead them away from their religion through the therapy. ARRGH!!

who out of all you nasty old apostates (tm) will agree with me, that if you take the gb that you dislike so much, and the watchtower that you hate out of the picture, will agree with me that at the end of the day, and on the whole, jw's really are a good bunch of people.

i did my same old rekky last sunday at the gillingham convention, and will have a good look around next sunday at twickenham convention.

i've been in lots of crowds, at stadiums and arenas, but an assembly is something else, it is somehow unique, its somehow different from any other crowds, there is a deep sense of "togetherness" i've not see any where else.

That feeling of love (which I fell for at first, too) is actually nothing more than conformity. It's like anything else-when practiced enough, it becomes second nature. I don't know how many times I said the same things over and over at conventions and acted in the expected accepted way, even when I was dog tired, etc. And underneath it all was still the pettiness of people knowing way too much about each other just brewing under the surface.

The fear of being thrown out of this "elite" group goes a long way to making everyone give the appearance of love.

There are many groups that become close knit and lean on each other, help each other at a moment's notice, etc. Unconditionally. Perhaps volunteering at one or becoming involved in something of that nature could help.

I know what you are saying, Scooby, but our perspectives are different, I think. Actually, you sound a bit wistful,(IMHO) like you really, really want what you say to be true. Everything is so bittersweet in this cult.

From my perspective, I can't get past the whole child abuse issue and the way the adult JW's act. No one will stand up in public and say the 2 witness rule is wrong, and demonized the ones who do. I feel every JW that does not speak out is an accessory to child rape, and I can't get past the conditional, fake, sugar coated "niceness".

I know this seems severe and that I only see things in "black and white", but I can't help it. When I think of those conventions and assemblies, I just see robots in their Sunday go-to-meeting clothes.

Whyamihere survives surgery!

to all it may consume...i mean concern...my poor little brookiepooh had to have surgery on her leg today to remove a blockage in one of her major arteries.

it was a very long surgery but she was able to hobble home this afternoon (well...austin gave her a ride home but she had to hobble into the house).

so she isn't feeling too chipper and thought it would be nice for you all to stop by and wish her well and a speedy recovery.

Christmas???

does anyone celebrate christmas?

that use to be my favorite time of year, right now i can't wait to celebrate it again unless i change my mind...lol...but right now it's on!!

this only being able to post two post isn't good for me ...............i had to waste one earlier on tec support...tec supports shouln't count as one!!

I sure do. I try to do it in a big way, recreating the memories I had as a child. Now my kids are still young, and I'm trying to make up for the lost Christmases with them. I am what you would consider a "Christmas to the max" type of person, since I plan for Christmas all year round.

(Ok, I admit I'm a bit wierd!!!!)
