So much of Christianity seems to involve turning the few nice parts of the Bible around. In 1 John 4:19 it says "We love Him because He first loved us." But obviously "Jason" was not loved by "Mr. Brooks," and was judged for not loving him! And the implication seems to be that "Katie" would not be loved enough to be saved from eternal torment had she not, during a very stressful period (new in school, and just plain being a teenager) abandoned any concept of self-determination in favor of a narrowly-defined belief pattern. What was she doing in the library? Obviously she didn't want the knowledge available by understanding how others have approached lifes great questions through science, philosophy, or historical study.

"In addition to these cards we regularly visit our targets and disrupt their criminality."
Does criminality include family dinners? It's fine to keep a tab on known crooks and to 'visit' them when they are suspected of a specific crime, but this sounds like harrassment. Hey, isn't that a crime? Price you pay for not having a written legal foundation, a la a Constitution. Just ask the Lords how much better they've been treated since that Magnetic Carter thing.

"The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around and what do you see? Businessmen, Teachers, Lawyers, Carpenters...the very minds of the people we're trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system, and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so innerred, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will that they will fight to protect it." - Morpheus

I saw that AIDS by transfusion article and was going to post it. How many U.S. Witnesses have died in the last three years, during which time ONE person has gotten infected in the U.S.? Mind you, while his life is much less pleasant, he is still alive and thanks to modern medicine may live for many years.
Isn't it interesting that we know about this event, even the location and name of the individual. We don't even get statistics from the Watchtower about how many people they needlessly kill by their deception.

Upon the winding up and dissolution of this Corporation, after paying or adequately providing for any debts and obligations of the Corporation, the remaining assets shall be distributed to Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc. No assets will be deemed to be received by Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc., until such acceptance is evidenced in writing. If Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc., is not then in existence and exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (or the corresponding provision of any future United States tax code), then said assets shall be distributed to any organization designated by the ecclesiastical Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses that is organized and operated for religious purposes and is a corporation exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (or the corresponding section of any future United States tax code).
Let's not miss the point. 1) The Watchtower / Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses / Vinnie's QuikPropecy Corp. effectively owns tens of thousands of Kingdom Halls without any of the burdens of upkeep; 2) The Governing Body is not really separated from running the corporation. So with a few dozen of these corporate charters, even without the template that they so obviously come from, there is enough evidence to tie the Society and its GB into any lawsuits that they try to force down to the congregation level, IMO.

Thanks for the series. I was reminded of an experience I had when playing hooky from the District Convention of 2000, my last year as a Witness (since Paul started a work to be completed in the 20th Century, per the 1989 'Tower, no sense continuing after, heh?). I had just spent the first two days of the District Convention in another state where, unlike Philly, it took place in an air-conditioned convention center. I was assigned to review Saturday's program the following Thursday, and after enduring two days, I gave up and drove home. But I then drove down to the final day, Sunday, at Philadelphia's Vet Stadium. I got there during lunchtime, spent about ten minutes walking around, then drove home with a young friend who was also on the way out and who I ran into. Arriving home, I saw that a new family was moving into another apartment at the other end of my building. At that point I walked into my apartment to get some disposable cups, then went over to them and offered the cups and the full water cooler that I had taken for my own use at the convention, and offered to help carry boxes. True, if they didn't have cups they could have gotten some at the convenience store around the corner, and tap water wouldn't be too warm to drink. But somehow the act of handing over what I had packed solely for my own use - the Philly conventions don't lead to a lot of woman-at-the-well situations, because everyone desparately needs to keep themselves cool - and spontaneously offering to help in a situation that had not involved a brother assigned to be group captain, was so refreshing. At the moment I thought, now this is what it means to act like a Christian. Or a humanist.

Evolution is wrong!!!!
by crownboy inhowever, there are certain evolutionary "proofs" that are somewhat questionable.
take, for example, the peppered moth story.
the story basically goes that the moths changed from generally white to mostly black due to natural selection because the tree trunks changed colors due to environmental factors.

The comparative pictures of embryos were in the past used to defend Haeckel's whacky theory that "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny" (individual development repeats evolutionary development). No serious scientist would defend this view today, or even in our lifetime. However, many science textbooks still include series of embryo pictures as if they are evidentiary, and this has rightly been criticized by the so-call High Priest of current evolutionary theory, Stephen Jay Gould. That's the neat thing about science - when you find a disparity you are ALLOWED to look closer, and often find out the deeper issues involved and the more complex answers. Meanwhile evolutionary theories are merely models that explain how evolution takes place, so they are subject to reinterpretation and change. Economic models are also theories, but just because a model of how inflation works might be flawed, is not evidence against inflation.
