  New Watchtower CD?

  i'm going to post another thread on this since my last attempt to hijack a thread was utterly in vain.. does anyone have the latest watchtower library cd?

  i *think* the year was '99 or '01, but i'm not 100% on that.. if so, would it be possible to put an iso of it on the web somewhere?

  (or, if not, at least host it on your computer for a bit such that i could pick it up via icq or gnutella or something?).

  Providing the entirety of CofC to you personally while it is copyrighted would be no problem provided Amazon.com et al refused to sell you a copy on the grounds that you are attending meetings of Jehovah's Witnesses and you are in good standing. I think that it would thus pass the test for Fair Use that requires copying not to obstruct the copyright holder from distributing more of the product.

  As the Watchtower restricts to whom they will 'sell' the CD, someone providing a copy to a bloodthirsty apostate doesn't cut into their sales. Besides, I'm talking about mailing something from one person to another, not making it available to an unlimited number of people on the Net.

  Of course a sample chapter of CofC might have the effect of whetting appetities and result in sales for the author, much like cheese on toothpicks or automobile test drives. Thus the author has given permission for Chapter 1 to be online at http://www.commentarypress.com/eng-crisis-ch1.html.

  Edited becaue I made a good point in paragraph 2 about limited vs. unlimited distribution availability and decided it was better to say "to you personally" rather than "online."

  I have a '99 Watchtower CD. Because I'm unlikely to get a replacement in the near future, I want to protect this valuable resource. To this this it is lawful for me to make backups, and to be safe I need to store them off-site. Xander, might you be willing to store a copy off-site for me?

  at 8:02 p.m. the time and date will read 2002 2002 2002. that is 2 minutes past 8 (twentieth hour in the 24 hour clock), on the 20th of february, 2002.. apparently next time this happens will be 2112 2112 2112. i think last time was 1212 1212 1212. not sure of that though.. good excuse for an extra-cold vodka-martini, methinks!.

  Here in the center of the universe it will be 20:02 02/20/2002, or more likely 8:02 p.m. 2/20/02, since we don't much like figuring out military time or writing more than two digits for the year (which hasn't worked out too badly), and only as many digits as needed for the month and date. Your trick only works in countries where things are expressed according to their order of magnitude.

  This brings up the computer terms "big-endian" and "little-endian," which refer mostly to binary values. For instance binary 1111 is decimal 15 because it is 8+4+2+1. Binary 1011 would be read as decimal 11, 8+2+1, in most systems, such as Intel-based systems, which are little-endian. A few systems, including Motorola-based systems, read 1011 as 1+4+8 = 13, because they are big-endian; that is, the last digit had the greatest magnitude. Faced with the bizarre way we in the U.S. express month, then the smaller magnitude date, then the larger magnitude year, hackeresse has thrown up its hands and declared this solution "middle-endian." Which really is funny, honest.

  I think it is more like, 'Howdy, I'm out getting drunk, see you later.' Probably an autoresponder, so in reality his emails purposefully directed to you have all been in English - very good English, beyond just the use of a spell-checker because the punctuation is good too. But it is believable as coming from someone who lives in a mostly non-English speaking area, as for example with the formal name of the Mormon church.

  Anyway, throughout his messages it is clear that this individual is confused, and it would probably be best if you let the police know about this correspondence.

  No hope for understanding the universe?

  is there no hope for truly understanding the universe?.

  if a person believes that we were created by a supreme being who is in control of and fully understands the universe, he may reason that we were created with the ability to also understand the universe.. but if we are not created and have just evolved as part of a natural prosses why should we asume that our brain should have any grasp on a true understanding of things.. how can we know that our brains just are not in tune or cannot grasp any of the fundementaly important concepts that case this universe to exist?.

  maybe in trying to understand the universe we are just tying ourselves up in knot trying to know the unknowable?

  The larger society's declaration that certain information is unknowable has given the greatest impetus to discovery. We have moved beyond the perceptions nature has given us with inventions such as radio telescopes, and we continue to move forward because we do not become convinced we are done. Thinking that knowledge had already reached a pinnacle is just what kept Europe down during the Dark Ages, when the Church enforced Aristotelian thought, and its what keeps Islamic nations down today, when a church enforces the idea that a book is the final and unsurpassable word of God.

  JW Works?

  i have a jw friend who is constantly telling me he is in the truth.

  he always tells me that people will know gods true "organization" by their works.

  he tells me about all the door to door stuff.

  The brother of Jesus said:

  "Religion [NW: form of worship] that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." - James 1:27, NIV

  The Watchtower religion is faulty and impure; it cannot be acceptable to God. "Charity begins at home" you'll here them say, ignoring the slimness of the likelihood that widows and orphans will get help there. The next step, however, is not the congregation but caesar. So be it, but do the elders have training to help widows apply for death benefits, or to help orphans find a family to adopt them? Do their special meetings review how to help someone unemployed, even in the congregation, to find and fund retraining programs? Do they know where to point the poor who need help from the local food bank (likely run by the Salvation Army)? Do they give to that food bank, or do they join with Habitat for Humanity to build low-income housing?

  What about pollution from the world? They argue that a voter may be considered responsible for the future bad acts of a candidate (W 99 11/15 QFR); are they in no way responsible for the misdeeds of corporations that have occured while they owned stock in them? (A tough standard, I agree, but they should be held up to the equivalent of what they require). Is voluntary UN NGO registration a good way to keep oneself without spot?

  Until they conform to even this scripture, they can hardly proclaim themselves to be God's mouthpiece.
