  Will the Book Study ever be dropped from the weekly meetings?

  the book study is one of the most useless meetings.

  the same books have been studied 3 or 4 times.the meeting takes only an hour but takes up most of your evening.

  and, it is one of the least attended meetings.. why haven't they combined the watchtower study with just question and answer and then follow with the book study with just question and answer?

  perform the bookstudy in 30 minutes.

  two 5 minutes (one by a brother and one sisters) (assigned by the elder to members of the bookstudy group) - no signup for this assignment required, it's not officially the school but a preparation to join the school or better your speaking habits in a smaller more intiimate group.

  a 5-10 minutes bible reading (by a brother, of course!)

  The talks could be assigned by the BSO and his assistant. The added pressure of having a part may force certain ones to show up when they otherwise would not. It could also be sold as a means to prepare certain ones who are nervous about giving talks at the KH to do so and to prepare everyone for more informal witnessing.

  PLUS, since we're so close to the end the WTS would easily see the rumor spread that this change was due to the persecution that they see 'right around the corner.'

  Praying at the Door

  an interesting side topic arose on another thread about praying with people at the door.

  i did door to door witnesses for decades and never once prayed with someone at the door, and yes, requests were made.. by not praying with worldly ones i was following the instructions from the fds.

  however, i never really understood the wts stance on this.. i would like to hear others thoughts about why praying at the door with someone would be scripturally appropriate or not.. i realize that it may be a loving and compassionate thing to do.

  If Your Spouse Told The Elders On U, Is That a Marital or Religious Problem

  if a faithful devout jw saw her husband on a board like this or reading "apostate" literature, if she was so disturbed by her husband's actions and the husband justified himself, would you think that if she told the elders because she was truly concerned that her mate was going to leave "the truth" and ultimately not make it into the "new system", --------that this was simply a marital issue-----not a religious one?.

  How can you be truly "One" in marriage when you have to guard your thoughts and ideas even from your spouse? It is impossible unless you go against the very core of dub teaching.

  Cold Creek Swimmer summed it up pretty well.

  I'm in the situation now of trying to decide where my wife's line in the sand is regarding non-dub thoughts and activities.

  I want to be fully open and honest with my thoughts and actions (like posting here) but I'm nervous that something will cross her imaginary line in the sand and she'll rat me out.

  --how would you explain the difference of talking to a therapist vs. the elders regarding the very same information?

  many witnesses lived together in sin or had many wives before 1952 during the rutherford era, this was frowned apoun but no one was disfellowshiped unless they did something major like critisize rutherford!

  then in watch.

  may 15 1944 and finally watch 1/3 1952, disfellowshiping was invented.

  So much was left up to the company servants back then. The organization has become very very controlled.

  Remember when anal or oral sex with someone other than your husband/wife wasn't grounds for divorce?

  i cannot find a post where someone gave an excellent illustration about researching the wt.. it had to do with someone telling your spouse that you cheated and sending pictures.

  but, the cheating spouse says don't believe the pictures and don't listen to anyone who says i cheat and don't look at anything that says i cheat.. .

  anyone remember it?

  You can be disfellowshipped for associating with a disfellowshipped or disassociated individual.

  But, an elderly sister contacting her son? Those elders must have sincerely had it in for her.

  Do the Governing Body members do door-to-door field service?

  those of you that have been around the gb members on a regular basis, do they actually do the door-to-door work themselves, or do they mainly count the talks they give as their field service time?

  Everyone here inspires and motivates me to stay free and continue to learn.

  An earlier post said that many peope here share their very personal struggles and triumphs. The posters who share these things have a special place in my heart.

  A toast to all the posters who have ever taken time from their busy busy days and nights to write a personal and thoughtful reply to another poster; someone they may not know nor ever meet.

  It's not easy for a fading ex-jw to make friends. This board has become my surrogate family and I cannot wait until I begin attending apostafests so that I can meet my 'family' in person.
