Cognitive Dissonance and WT downsizing
by Lady Lee inthere is a discussion on the board new jwd members on the horizon!
that suggests many of those who were pushed out of wt headquarters will leave the wts and some may find their way here.. i hope that is what happens.. but i have a sinking feeling that the opposite might happen.
in leon festinger's book when prophesy fails he states:.

You make a good point LadyLee about the congregations. I have heard several discuss the downsizing and it hasn't fazed them at all. I don't think the congregations will be affected by the actual downsizing but by the actions of the local bodies of elders when the ex-bethelites come to town and the actions of the ex-bethelites themselves. There are some nice bethelites and some real stinkers. But almost all bethelites view themselves as more spiritual than an average witness.

the pioneer book
by rathfear inhi, i've finally decided to make a post, after lurking for a while and even lurking for a while after i signed up.
.
could anyone tell me about that blue book, shining as illuminators in the world, the pioneer book, does anyone know where you would get it online, in pdf, word, html format?

I need advice re: monthly field service report
by under_believer ini stopped going out in service about a year ago.
just couldn't take it anymore.
after that, i still continued "studying" with my kids and "counting the time" for that.

For my fade I slowed down everything in unison. commenting, talks, reported service time, meeting attendance. If you go regularly to the meetings they are going to have an easy time bugging you about service time. Until you stop attending for your wife's sake you should put enough hours in to squeak by. Usually 5 or 6 should do. If you've traditionally gotten higher hours lower your reporting numbers slowly. Fading is an art, unfortunately we don't get a practice run first.

New JWD members on the Horizon!
by Sign oTimes insoon (if they haven't already) local congregations of jws will welcome newly disillusioned former members of the bethel family.
the most potentially dangerous have been paid off already (but what do you mean?
weren't we all given severances equally proportionate to our years of devoted service?

Gumby is right the WTS could put out an article for general consumption or a letter to the BOEs that some bethelites that were asked to leave have become haughty and should be helped. This would probably be enough to keep control in the local body of elders. But, it would seriously affect some of the ex-bethelites. If even 1% of those asked to leave bethel become disillusioned and leave it will have an effect on the organization.
The futher from bethel you travel, say CA or AZ, the more prestige a bethelite has. When you're a bethelite and you travel to NJ or CT you get extra respect and awe but nothing near the treatment you get in CA or somewhere else distant from bethel. The influence of an older bethel couple losing their faith would spread through several congregations. Why? Because at first everyone in a given area is going to want to attach themselves to the heroic returning bethelites and their possible connections.
So, if the WTS placates the ex-bethelites by informing the congregations that they should be glad to have them and make sure to listen to their years of experience - thus alienating local bodies of elders, or placates the local bodies of elders and says the ex-bethelites should listen to the brothers who've been on the front lines, thus alienating the ex-bethelites; someone is bound to lose. All power struggles have a loser.
Either scenario is bad for the WTS.

JW spotted at 1:00...
by Jim_TX inthis afternoon, i took my girlfriend and her boy who is visiting her to sonic in a small town near here called castroville.
right next door to the sonic is a pizza hut.
we sat outside sonic at the tables, in the 92-ish weather, with a gentle breeze making the stay nice.

Carla,
They either meet at the KH or someone's home. The restaurant thing is for afterwards. Unless they're bad little dubbies and skip out on service after the meeting to eat. Lots of times when you're in service you make plans to meet up afterwards to eat or something. Of course it's the "something" that lands you before the elders with the 7/15/06 WT in their hands.
I will add that some dubs have been known to drop their cars off in a parking lot and ride with the others for awhile. But, it's not the normal plan.

Unbeliever, in your post you said:
* "as well as oral and anal sex"--so, these are back in the porneia category again? I thought they'd come back out. Maybe I was mistaken. Based on an earlier thread on this forum, many, many otherwise faithful Witnesses at all levels of service are guilty of repeated unrepentant fornication--with their own mates.
I may be mistaken, but I think the article was discussing only unmarried individuals. On page 29 of the scan the article says that porneai "applies to illicit sexual relations outside of scriptural marriage." This would preclude someone from using this article to say oral/anal sex is wrong for a married couple. imho.
