anybody go to the assemblies in dudley ?!?!.

its just around the corner but its the first time i won't be going and i dont feel any guilt about it !!!.

Yes about 50 miles away can't at this time say exactly, you understand!!!

I spent most of my weekends working at EPAH whilst it was being built, made some good friends, and learnt a lot of how some Brothers like the "Lime Light" and boss uz young un's about. Some kept the best jobs for really spiritual ones and if you were not a spiritual brother you were not allowed to do some jobs, or even do night guard "privileges"!

I must have been privileged to have a roof permit, one day I worked on top of the roof, wow what a view, look at all those lovely sisters.And it looked good to show off my roof permit too.

I really fancied a nice pioneer sister who had temporally given up pioneering and worked full time at EPAH, but I never asked her out, I was far too shy.. Could kick myself now. Never mind.

I remember taking up Antiques because a brother was in that line of work, he would sell them, and give the money to the EPAH fund. The old sisters used to sort out all the valuable thing and donate them cuz the system was ending soon, and would have no need for them.

I will think of other stories to tell when I remember them

Night watchmen at Hellaby, I did that, I remember walking around guarding all the construction stuff that was lying around, do you remember how muddy and cold it was? Some brothers, who came to offer help, had to stay in a converted lorry trailer, I recon about 20 sleeping in this crap trailer, poor sods.

The first night we did Night watching we took cans of Bear to drink, loads of food to eat it was like going on a camping holiday. Next time large notices about No Alcohol appeared!

We had a Log book to record any incidents, well as you can imagine the boredom of us young brothers all night, we used to write and make up funny stories, just to add a little humour to the log book

walking past the stables the horse named King made a coughing noise we think he his feeling a little horse. (The stable girls came early in the morning, what a sight just what us young teenage brothers needed)

found a dead rat and gave it a good burial, brother Smith gave the prayer.

Night watchmen reporting nothing accept it is dark and cold, want to go home

heard a strange noise coming from a caravan sounded like some one being suffocated, on further investigation it was found to be Brother Bowers snoring loud.

All getting frostbite now can we go home?

yes it sure was a funny book to read I wonder if it has been preseved?

Next time we came to do our privilege, there was a note stuck prominently on the Log Book about how the Local Police come and read the book, and how it was not a good witness to write jokingly logs, and any one found doing so would be disciplined..

One night the brother got over zealous and noticed some men loading some equipment into the back of a truck, call the police, they came but it was OK the men had to collect some hired equipment (they had the paperwork to prove it and the brothers should have read the note that these guys would collect the equipment that night), but the police arrested the men for being drunk. The driver would have lost his driving licence and also his job.

Yeh loads of times

I remember the attendants holding back the crowds from going upstairs because the lighting cost too much money they could save on electricity by not letting the brothers find seats upstairs, and the downdstairs need filling first. I remember not being able to find any seats downstairs and having to wait to go upstairs. What bloody prats those attendants are!

I did much work on the EPAH (East of Pennines Assembly Hall) at Helaby and still go there (for now)

hi all - i've only posted here a couple of times - i'll post my story at some point.

i know quite a few people on this site are from the uk.

i (and my husband / 3 kids) lived in the uk from 2000 - 2002 and returned back to our home in minnesota 4 months ago.

The quotes have made me remember my first few years in the Truth and comments made by worldly ones, I wonder if any others remember also?

When I started in the field service, many people made mention that we Jehovahs Witnesses did not belief in medicine, or doctors. I thought this was rubbish and that such worldly people are just plain stupid about JWs, I would then go on about it was just the use of blood, that the Bible forbid.

But after reading these quotes from old Awakes, I now understand why people used to make such stupid comments, they had simply read, the old stupid Awakes.

My Mother, a long-time JW also said that having vaccinations was not good, and even prevented me having TB jabs at school; she was still tainted by the Old Light.

I feel upset that all this old light has been hidden from the R/F, my old K/hall had many old Mags in the Library, but was always locked up, I was never able to read those old gems.

it is another begging letter for contributions, in it they explain the british tax relief given to them as a charity .

for every 1 pound donated the goverment will give them an extra 28p if it is donated under the gift aid arrangement.

what kind of law ist that??? thats crazy!

The UK Government has for many years encouraged the giving to charities.

This is how it works, Tax Payers pay income tax, this usually deducted at source from our wages its called PAYE (pay as you earn). If a Tax Payer gives to any registered Charity, the Tax office (Inland Revenue) will refund the Tax paid (at source and collected by the Inland Revenue) by the giver to named Charity.

The Government is not giving anything away, just refunding the Tax taken already, so if I give to a Registered Charity a Pound, the Tax Man will give the Tax I paid on that pound to the Charity that is 28 pence. Just shows you how much Tax we pay in the UK!!!!!!

The local Congregation is registered as a charity, and also is the IBSA W/Tower. Many people give to charities in the UK; this helps many different causes, such as relief funds, childrens charities, animal welfare and foreign aid.

i know this is a topic that will get very little attention on the board but when i heard that joe strummer died yesterday i said to myself......well, i guess i couldn't really tell you because the profanity would have surpased a david mamet film.

for me, i only had one band that i truly liked, and that band was the clash.

for my money they were the best band to ever walk the earth.

Jehovah's Witness Ghost Story

i was about twelve and a young "brother" invited me to stay the night at his house.

my mom wanted me to be make friends with witness families, so getting permission was not that hard to do.

his mom and dad picked me up at around five and we went back to his house.

Today with modern technology we can record all sorts of events on all sorts of different media for example: Video Tape, Film, Photography on Silver coated paper, and today we can use Hard Disks to store Media files, in the past humans drew on cave walls, then on animal skins, then on to canvas and today - paper.

How does our brain record events, and why cant thoughts pass through our skull and pass onto others? Some have said that even walls and other materials can record things/events that happened long ago, such as plaster on walls, other materials, maybe soft furnishings!

My friend was walking on his own passing some old caves in the midle of nowhere and heard children playing.. This was at dusk, was the very rocks releasing the sounds of the past?

Was your vision of a child swinging on the swing, just a releasing of some long ago memory stored in the surrounding materials, or was it brain thoughts passing onto you from the sleeping family?

Today we have fantastic technology, we can store billions of bits on silicon (binary), but do we have more fantastic technology to discover?
