just recieved a new letter from the society.
it is another begging letter for contributions, in it they explain the british tax relief given to them as a charity .
for every 1 pound donated the goverment will give them an extra 28p if it is donated under the gift aid arrangement.

what kind of law ist that??? thats crazy!
The UK Government has for many years encouraged the giving to charities.
This is how it works, Tax Payers pay income tax, this usually deducted at source from our wages its called PAYE (pay as you earn). If a Tax Payer gives to any registered Charity, the Tax office (Inland Revenue) will refund the Tax paid (at source and collected by the Inland Revenue) by the giver to named Charity.
The Government is not giving anything away, just refunding the Tax taken already, so if I give to a Registered Charity a Pound, the Tax Man will give the Tax I paid on that pound to the Charity that is 28 pence. Just shows you how much Tax we pay in the UK!!!!!!
The local Congregation is registered as a charity, and also is the IBSA W/Tower. Many people give to charities in the UK; this helps many different causes, such as relief funds, childrens charities, animal welfare and foreign aid.

i know this is a topic that will get very little attention on the board but when i heard that joe strummer died yesterday i said to myself......well, i guess i couldn't really tell you because the profanity would have surpased a david mamet film.
for me, i only had one band that i truly liked, and that band was the clash.
for my money they were the best band to ever walk the earth.
Yes I have been listening to the Clash all day; Joe Strummer death is a sad loss for music.
Just to show all how important Joe Strummer influence was, his death has been the headline for the best part of the day on the BBC News website. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/2600669.stm .
Also, have a read of the many words of condolences here: http://www.strummernews.com/

i was about twelve and a young "brother" invited me to stay the night at his house.
my mom wanted me to be make friends with witness families, so getting permission was not that hard to do.
his mom and dad picked me up at around five and we went back to his house.
Today with modern technology we can record all sorts of events on all sorts of different media for example: Video Tape, Film, Photography on Silver coated paper, and today we can use Hard Disks to store Media files, in the past humans drew on cave walls, then on animal skins, then on to canvas and today - paper.
How does our brain record events, and why cant thoughts pass through our skull and pass onto others? Some have said that even walls and other materials can record things/events that happened long ago, such as plaster on walls, other materials, maybe soft furnishings!
My friend was walking on his own passing some old caves in the midle of nowhere and heard children playing.. This was at dusk, was the very rocks releasing the sounds of the past?
Was your vision of a child swinging on the swing, just a releasing of some long ago memory stored in the surrounding materials, or was it brain thoughts passing onto you from the sleeping family?
Today we have fantastic technology, we can store billions of bits on silicon (binary), but do we have more fantastic technology to discover?
Just my humble thoughts

i know of a congregation on the east coast that is having all bookstudies meet at the kingdom hall!
that's right--no bookstudies in private homes, at least for now.... has anyone else heard of this?
and what could be the reason?
I had the privilege of the book study at my house for 10 years... no one ever "clog my toilet", why? I took the toilet paper out, so that they had to wait and do it at home...ha ha. I got fed up of buying toilet paper for the group.
Some nice sister was so thankful of me having the book study at my house; she used to hide little presents after the study for me, oh the blessings!

im breaking a long absence to ask a question during this evening of soul-searching in what i believe to be the best place to ask it.
i dont know how many people are still here who remember me well, so first a 'hi and miss you guys' to those who are.. im wondering about therapy.
i always thought i had a pretty good handle on my life despite the upheaval of leaving the witnesses.
Hi Moxy
I'm having counselling for my stress and situation in life (its working), take the advice from proplog2, or go buy the book "A guide to Rational Living" ISBN 0-87980-042-9 by Albert Ellis and Robert Harper.
It cuts thru all the crap you have in your own belief system (life rules), and shows you how to get on with your life and happiness.
Do it now and dont suffer any longer with self induced mental pain
Take care

mother who poisoned sons is freed.
by natalie williams .
Yeh if this was the Father he would have been lock up for 20 years, women/mothers get off a lot lighter, she tried to kill her kids she should be punished greater, what right has she to try to kill her children?
I know as a father I am treated as a lesser person, the mother seems to get a better, more sympathetic treament then men do.
just my thoughts........
frogit who loves is children just as much as the mother does...........
.
i was standing at a pedestrian crossing when a mother with child said`wait for the green man to appear'.. as a green man is a pagan fertility symbol, should jws use pedestrian crossings.. this needs tob send to brooklyn as fast as possible as anyone weak jw might b stumbled seeing a brother using a pc.
When I take my boys down to the Woods (Sherwood Forest for us, yes of Robin Hood fame) for a walk, we always look for the "Green Man", if you look and stare long enough at the trees and bushes you will see the Green Man hiding in the woods......Give it a try next time you go down to the woods, but be careful not to frighten yourself!
Its just like looking at those curtains that your Grandmother had, if you look long enough, you see faces, kinda subliminal.
