Is It Fair To Discipline Born-Into-It's?

a born-into-it teenager or maybe someone in their early 20's, gets df'd for an unspecified offence.

later the df'd person protests that df'ing is unscriptural and inhumane, only to be told "you knew the score, you knew what would happen, it's your fault".. but is it?

maybe it might be fairer for a converted person to be df'd for breaking the rules, after all, a converted person has joined the jw's willingly and has therefore accepted the witness rules.

Wow, I remember the apple pie...and their were ice cream bars, fudgecycles and those orange/vanilla bars too I think. Besides the metal trays I think they put the fruit punch in little colored plastic cups. Food I remember...everything else is a blurr, except for what little of New York I got to see. That was exciting. I remember at refreshment stand in Yankee Stadium some Einstien gave my dad a cup of coffee in a wax Dixie cup. He got back to his seat, took a drink and got little steamed. The wax was floating on the top. Yes, those were the days...7 days and 7 nights. And when Freddy spoke everyone was in their seats. Why couldn't I have gone to NY with the Boy Scouts or YMCA?

jehovah's witnesses proclaim the good news of the kingdom under the power of god's holy spirit.

jesus commanded his followers to preach in the most distant parts of the earth and promised them that the spirit of god would guide them in this life-saving work (acts 1:8).. without the spirit of god, one cannot continue preaching about jesus and god's kingdom (matthew 24:14).

one surely will not have god's spirit if one preaches a negative message (against jehovah's servants) from door to door.

Ever hear of "Free Help". Unpaid door-to-door salemen for the Corporation. No salaries...no benefits...Hell, no commissions on book sales. If the Society told everyone to become well educated, they run the real risk of losing most of their adherents. It's much better to have a hard-core group of fanatics that cannot think for themselves and who are prohibited from reading anything contrary to their beliefs. Even though their stand has supposedly liberalized on education, you will NEVER hear them say, "be sure and attend college."

were you ashamed of being a witness?.

how did you feel about identifing yourself as a jehovahs witness to others?.

i often used to hide it because of the stigma attacthed to it.. was anyone actually proud to be one?

I should add that I think it's easier when there is more than just yourself as a lone Witless in a class or school. I remember one year I had a Witless friend that went to my school. That year was not as bad. But when you're all by yourself, you get this overwhelming feeling that it's you angainst the world. Of course all the meetings and my parents would reinforce that I was special for being "persecuted". Funny, I didn't feel special. I would have rather felt special by having my birthday celebrated.

Comforter.....Get Real!

If they wanted to reach all the people around the globe, they would use television and satellite technology. And I don't mean those lame commercials they produced. A handful of missionary's isn't going to do the trick in China or Islamic countries. Of course those missionary stories help boost the money-giving in this and other democratic countries. And money is what it's all about.

Taxation of Religious businesses

why should a religion be granted tax exemptions for its money making endevors?.

if they are making money through donations they should have to show where the money is going and to get exemptions by offering proof that the money thus is being used in a charitable way(feeding the poor etc...).. i feel it is only proper for them to pay property tax, unless they can show that the property is used more than 50% of the time for the benifit of charity free from the religious goals of gaining more members, thus more income.

when religion grows weathy at the taxpayers expence, a massing buildings lavishly decorated should be taxed for such weath.. perhaps i'm wrong but should not all be under the same law, reguardless of whether it is religion or just a person without religion.

Probably saw you there...ha. Lots of people, that's what I remember. We too stayed at a private residence in the Bronx too... I believe that was set up thru, I think it was called the "rooming" dept. I remember huge NY 'roaches when we came in at night and turned on the lights. They would scurry into the cracks. Since I was from out in the boonies, it was probably the first time I'd seen black kids. Got to play with them outside. I think they were "worldly" but my parents let me play anyway. I remember they could jump rope real well....I fell down real well. Do you remember all those Fans that they sold outside the conventions? I had quite a collection of them. We went every day to Yankee Stadium. Walked over the bridge to see the Polo Grounds one day but never went in...don't know why. I also remember they used to sell pie and other stuff there...plus they had regular meals that you would stand in line for...metal trays...under the tents. That was maybe one time when I did not feel weird about be affiliated...probably because were so many of us.

GREAT TOPIC

I used to pray to be normal. I used to ask God to make me like everyone else...just normal...not special. As a child you had so many things to deal with all the time...not just occasionally. Each day at school began with the Pledge. Someone was always having a birthday and Holidays were always popping up. A child should not be forced or even asked to take on the Government each morning and we are taught to respect our elders but of course we had to go against our teachers, classmates...everyone. I think Witness kids grow up fast in one way but it is not a good way. We missed our childhood. We became little robot-puppets for the "Cause". How many of you as children were scared to death that you might get hurt so bad that a blood transfusion would be involved? You would be asked to die for the "Cause". Yes I was ashamed. Going in service put a knot in my stomach I can still feel. Thank God for therapists.

I spoke to a DF'd guy I know the other day. He still attends regularly. He told me that they said in one of the meetings that they're reporting an increase of 6,000 per week. Has this been in one of the publications? If so, where is this supposed increase? Nigeria?
