  Why were you baptized?

  inspired by another thread.. i was baptized at 12 years old.

  i had a cousin, two years older than me, who was prettier, more outgoing and more popular in the hall than i was.

  i couldn't beat her at any of that stuff, but i figured i could be a better jw than she was.

  No one will marry you if you aren't baptized. So I got baptized at 21, married at 24. I was an old maid in my congregations. The average age for getting married was 19.

  well i have been wanting to tell this story for some time now.

  does anyone believe that a person is better becoming a jw?

  i ask this question because i have carried this around with me for some years now.

  I sorry to hear about Tabitha. My sympathys.

  I think had she become a JW her partying ways would have surfaced at some time. You can only hide your true self for so long before it demands to come out again. If she got baptized as a JW and then her partying ways came out she would have been Df'd and then shunned by all those people she thought loved her.

  i read these threads and there are a few that bend over backwards to say why wts is correct on this issue or that issue.. they act like typical jw's that refuse to acknowledge points that may show that wts is not following the scriptures or that wts goes beyond the scriptures in a way that is not supported by others.. the point could be the blood issue or shunning or whether 1799 or 1914 was the start (or finish?

  ) of the last days or whether there is a faithful and discreet slave class or not.

  i don't want to harp on each point.

  That is BS. Kids do not know waht they are getting into when they are baptized before the age of 18.

  instead, they seems to be mostly about legalese, rules and such.

  there are some prophesy ones that they pull out of their butts, but aside from that it's all about following the rules better so god doesn't smote you.

  A "possible suicide" results in no JW support

  a co-worker of mine whose, wife and daughters are jehovahs witnesses, told me about situation that his oldest daughter finds abhorrent.

  he said that a close friend of his daughter was found dead in a car the other day.

  she was in her early 30's and had been a lifelong jw.

  That is so sad. Elders are a** holes. I bet this is the cayalyst that makes this family leave the "truth". Jw's do have a knack for making their followers want to leave.

  the watchtower organization is without doubt doing everything they can to keep their business afloat.

  they are at a critical point in their ever so blemished present condition.

  there is simply too much genuine criticism from not only those on the outside but, also from those on the inside.
