Too much bad language, sex & pics

please can everyone think twice before they make posts containing bad language (even if not directed at individuals), graphic sex talk and nude or semi-nude pictures (especially if explicit).

this is not what the forum is here for.

if you want to post stuff like that then there are lots of places on the internet for it and, more importantly, if people want to see and read stuff like that then they are quite capable of going to these places themselves.. i know everyone likes to 'let their hair down' now and again, me included, and i like pictures of sexy women as much as anyone .

I'd say "yes" to the pswd protected adult forum, if enough people really want that..but dang you can do a quick internet search and get more than you can handle...

And 'yes' to alot less swearing at each other if we dont agree with one another...just doesnt help anything...compounds situations, etc..

And 'yes' to self-moderation...after all, we can have a password protected forum, but if the odd poster won't conform to limiting really outlandish stuff to that area, it'll still show up elsewhere and then Simon will still have to work hard to root thru it all...we all have to 'buy in' to the concept...

Lennix and Tyson fight Tonight

Naw, Im just mad that you beat me to the punch..pun intended..on this subject.

Im rootin for Lewis...I mean, he's kinda a hometown boy, right? Not only that but I've been dreaming most of my adult life of this showdown, it's been a long time comin, babay!!!

The only problem, as you mentioned, is the two different fighting styles..if Lewis can hold him off, I think it's pretty clear that Tyson won't be able to go the distance...but we all know how much Tyson likes to end it early with a heavy barrage of killer punches....

Then again, isn't Lewis arm span like almost twice that of Tyson's?? LOL...he should be able to hold his forehead with one hand and pummel him with the other, with Tyson swinging wildly and landing nuttin but air...Im having a mental image of this cartoon like situation...hilarious....

one of my closest friends in all the world is someone i'll call m. m is in her mid-thirties and was raised a jw from infancy but is one no longer.

her parents are still very jw... her dad is a very high profile, respected elder in a large american city.

they are both cool people... i've sat and had long talks with both of them about subjects having nothing to do with 'the truth.

Damn I wish my mom would look at me like that. I really just want a hug and her favorite expression 'how's my number 1 son' (its family humor, Im the only son).

Thanks for sharing that with us. I hear about stuff like that alot from friends who are out but their parents are still in and I wonder what I did to deserve such an unloving parent.

Im almost convinced that it has little to do with religion anymore, she just has no idea what love is. Her whole family is like that, even the ones who were never JWs. Their shunning is just a different flavor, they'll ignore their kids if they drop out of college or smoke weed or whatever. I wonder if it's genetic.

Sorry, Im getting off the positive tone of this thread, guess this is one of my hurting points.

You should have your own gear and transportation, and be dedicated enough to work independantly on learning songs so as to come to weekly rehearsals ready to jam. We have solid booking contacts waiting for our green light so we are looking to get performing as quickly as possible.

JWs/xJWs are more than welcome, religious affiliation or lack thereof are completely unimportant to us.

If youre interested, post a response and we'll figure out how to contact each other from there...

no disfellowship for inactive?

my mother was having a moment while she went to visit a friend a few weeks ago, worrying about me being disfellowshiped and having our relationship change.

the sister told my mom, that i could not be disfellowshiped because i am not an active memeber of the congregation.

supposedly, her daughter was a full time pioneer, stopped attending meetings, and realized that she is a lesbian.

My step-dad was a really great guy, and an elder in very good standing until the marrow drained out of his spine completely and left him a bed-ridden invalid. He tells me that you CANNOT be df'd for not going to meetings or not going in fs (the traditional defn's of inactive). Unfortunately he lived over a 1000 miles away when all this stuff was going down with me, or things might have worked out differently.

Ok, now here's the other part: alot of people (like me) end up doing something df'able while inactive. For me it was the girls, and eventually my gf moved in with me. It was pretty common knowledge around my pals, as they still dropped by and we still partied etc. SO, if 2 of them had decided one day that their 'conciences' couldnt take it anymore, they *could* have gone to the elders and told on me, which in turn would have resulted in a JC being called. If I didnt show up, and they did, I could be df'd in my absence. A similar thing *could* happen to your friend, as I think being a lesbian is somehow a df'able offense...lol...mind you my pals were intelligent people who realized that if I wasnt going to meetings for a long time, I basically wasnt even trying to be part of the congregation so why bother screwing with my life, it was none of their business. I think if I was trying to come to meetings every week and maintain living with my gf it would have been much harder for them to ignore but in my situation it worked out just fine. They all knew I was basically coerced into scribbling a goodbye letter (two of them were actually in my apartment when the PO came a-knockin) so they still talk to me to this day.

Dont know if that confused you anymore, but the long and short of it is NO, but something you do while inactive, if 2 people want to rat on you, just might get you df'd.

Some moms would stop talking to you even if you became persistently inactive (like mine). Some moms would still talk to you even if df'd.

Sounds like your mom has a decent heart, I'd just tell her youre not interested in attending anymore but you still love her and want to remain a part of her life.

As for the notice thing, your not obligated to write any letter (my step-dad who is an elder told me this, mind you I had already done it) that's how they trick you into df'ing yourself. I fell for it, and regret it. Not that it would have made any difference with my mom, she'd probably avoid somebody for not getting at least 10 hrs of fs in a month. :(

A Plea For Responsible Reporting

many hundreds of people read this site who are not subscribed, and i would suspect that the vast majority are jw's looking for answers to an internal turmoil that they may be living with.. the information posted on this board does get read and then passed among many congregations of jw's.

this information is a powerful force and is a wonderful thing for those who are seeking to be informed, and a not so wonderful thing to those in brooklyn who are seeking to harness the boundaries of knowledge.. given this scenario, and how much credibility can be lost by xjw's who perpetuate gossip and innuendo, can we check our sources and facts very carefully before we post information to this board.

there is no particular nobility in being first with news about some aspect of wts life.

I think the many comments here reflect that a large number of people do want to come here and talk factually about the hurtful things that have happened to them. They also want a place that can be a pick-me-up too, and you can't get that if it's all negative, right?

I for one really admire how the majority of posters here are presenting their opinions in a dignified and reasoned fashion...Im taking notes! :)

Dateline discussed openly in our congregation

yesterday, the presiding overseer (elder h) read the letter from the christian congregation of jehovahs witnesses (us branch) regarding their policy on child abuse.

all scriptures were also looked up and read.. elder h is a very prepared brother.

he is a gilead graduate and served as a missionary for about 7 years in kenya before coming home because of illness.

JT, definately not, and I think Ive stated unequivocally my view on that. They'd have to be watched like a hawk, and NEVER left alone again with a young person, NEVER.

I think with stricter laws, better phychiatric assessments and much more effective parole/monitoring programs, you'd see alot less of these sickos getting rereleased into society anyways, as Stinkypantz has pointed out, they are truly sick individuals who by and large can't control themselves long enough to not reoffend.

Stinkypantz you are right, you did say 'things', my bad! But Im glad you see what I mean, it is hard to love, I know...I used to have this saying on my now defunct website: 'It's much easier for me to hate everyone and everything. It's finding space for love that takes the real work'.

Hmmm,

I think I've somehow gotten off on the wrong foot here. I've been told that I sometimes manage to express my ideas in a way that can appear confrontational or adversarial. I'd just like to outright apologize unequivocally for that if that is the case here.

I don't have morbid curiosity in this topic, it is however very close to me for personal reasons that I will leave out of the discussion for now. Let me just say one thing: I HATE CHILD MOLESTERS. On good days I'd like to see them locked away for good, and on days where my bad nature gets the better of me I'd like to go a-huntin' for them with an assault rifle.

I would also like to state that in NO WAY do I disbelieve that Mr. Bowens life has been horribly affected by this issue. I would not even dream that he has forged these letters, and I don't believe I even hinted that in the least bit. If I came across that way I am very sorry, it was not my intent. I also do not disbelieve that he may have been harassed by elders who are either sadly confused or deluded about what they SHOULD be doing on this. I also don't disbelieve that given the chance to 'save the flock', they will try and get him booted, perhaps even ex-parte.

Here is what I do believe: that it will be difficult, and cmon, given the circumstances, it'd be hard for any of us in this situation, to report everything that is going on with it with complete objectivity. I also noticed some gaps in the paper trail, so to speak, and so just wanted to investigate a little more.

I also believe, and its not a phenomenon exclusive to xJw forums, that whenever someone builds a case such as Mr. Bowens has, that extremist nutbars will line up behind them without any real factual knowledge and make the wildest assertions in the name of supporting such a person. You are clearly not that type of person, I'm referring to someone who would say something like 'all elders are pedophiles'.

Here is what else I believe: if all this stuff is true, I think the name, address, and picture of every molester, the elders that protected them, and those who threatened his life, should be posted up for everyone to see so we can all be wary of. Call it a bit of naive mob justice attitude, I guess.

I also think that maybe, and I stress, just maybe, the gb, legal dept, the elders in question, whatever, are getting a huge amount of pressure because of the Dateline program and *just might* be saying (well not exactly, but in my words lol) "holy shit, this is hittin the fan big time and it's not going away, we'd better meet it square on before it gets any worse"...definately not the reason they SHOULD be hitting it head on, but as others have mentioned, at least now because of people like Mr. Bowens they HAVE to. So yeah, it'd be cool to stick it to 'em and make them squirm a bit, but if this is truly about protecting children (and I really have no doubts that it is for which Im glad), I'd be the bigger person, meet them halfway on the JC thing, get all my witnesses together and hit em head on.

The other side of me, of course, just feels like saying 'fuck em' and just not showing up at all. I did basically the same thing, back when I couldnt take the JC meetings anymore, and just told them to do whatever they wanted in my absence. They said it doesnt work like that, so I scribbled a goodbye note. And for people who really dont want to be a part of it anymore, thats always been my advice, just leave it behind. I realize thats not so simple in some cases, and quite apparently this is one of them.

Most of your points are good ones, and well taken. I certainly would not want people questioning my motives if I laid myself bare as he has done. I think because I do not know all the variables to Mr. Bowens situation it would have been better for me to shut up about it and just watch from the sidelines.

PS I take it Simon is the owner of the forum? Really, I just joined this week and don't know about all the politics of other people posing with different aliases. I would welcome such verification but I guess I'd hope that my email etc would remain private, right? One thing I can tell you is that while I may be outspoken and frequently have to rethink my positions, I will always post on this board with this name and this name only and would never mislead the board in any other manner.

Thanks very much for posting up those letters from the JC. It helps me gain a better perspective on what is befalling you, which, I would like to say, I emphatize with, having been there myself...well sort of, I was there for different reasons I suppose.

I would just like to ask, as objectively as possible, the following questions:

It seems that this situation (I mean the requests and whatnot) since last year. I also wholeheartedly believe that it is a very important issue for you, and one that you believe very passionately in it, and rightly so.

Do you *really* wish to remain part of this organization? Why? I realize that you are going to be away on speaking engagements and what not, but from a scant read of their latest letter to you, it seems that the feeling is that this has gone on long enough, and that it needs to be resolved as quickly as possible. June 10 seems like their attempt (perhaps feeble) to meet you half-way. Surely they realize that, just as in May, you will come prepared with witnesses etc, so doesn't their latest offer at least give the appearance that they are finally willing to cut the bs and just sit down with you once and for all? The reason I say that, is because if I was in your shoes this meeting would be at the foremost of my mind and priority list. If I had to cut short a trip of speaking engagements to finally resolve it, I think I would, if for nothing else, to show that I was the bigger person.

Just a suggestion mind you....wish I could offer you my well wishes as a brother but Im not one, so good luck all the same.
