i've spent a lot of time on allmusic.com and it amazes me how much nirvana is mentioned when the reviewers rate other albums.

so its a no brainer that nirvana's work should probably have a place in every rock collection, but what are some other albums every rock fan should listen to if not own.

Gee dungbeetle, I never knew the sole purpose of this forum was to discuss those issues and those issues only. I'll be looking forward to similar sentiments from you in other threads such as "your favorite rock album" or any other thread not directly related to scandals involving JWs. I doubt its all a diabolical plan to derail these important issues.

Maybe that's what YOU come here to talk about, but its apparent that a greater number, while acknowledging the definate need to talk about it, would like to discuss other things as well.

You are so right, silly of me...I overlooked a good number of key artists, Fleetwood Mac, etc, etc...really could have gone on forever!!!

Im mixed up tho, in just about every genre, I find alot that I can dig...except thrash metal tho...Im into lyrics I can understand...lol...

some of my faves have already been mentioned, like Floyd, Rush, Def Leppard...here are a few others off the top of my head, some I just say Greatest Hits in case you dont know of them, compilations are a good way to get acquainted with an artist and from there you can look into the individual albums:

The Police - Regatta de Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta, Snycronicity, Greatest Hits

U2 - The Best Of 1980-1990, Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby (anyways if you like these Id say buy all of their albums, they are my favorite group, the Police were until U2 came along)

when i was in dub-dom....i used to hate eating out....my ex always made us bow our heads and close our eyes tight shut while he gave thanks out loud.

did you do that in public??

or did you do it discreetly with your head bowed but eyes not shut....or.....head in hand...hoping people would think u were in deep thought?

Two recent events come to mind:

I was in an Olive Garden in Orlando and saw a family giving thanks, I naively assumed that they were JW, that is until I saw them all do the sign of the cross at the end of the prayer...

At a Swiss Chalet, I saw a Muslim family giving thanks...didnt really give it a second thought..

When I was a JW my elder step-dad just asked us to each bow our own heads and say our own quick thanks...I think he felt for him to stand up and give a KH-like prayer in a restaurant would be pompous and pretentious...

Here we go again with the broad sweeping generalizations. Has it ever occurred to any who are able to see past their own experience that the statement "all JWs are idiotic dolts" is just as ludicrous as "JWs are the smartest people on earth?"!?

But I suppose I was in the minority, having skipped a grade in public school, breezing through high school to graduate at age 17 and finishing college with top marks and honours. I'll tell you one advantage I had growing up a JW: my reading, writing and public speaking skills were certainly miles ahead of any of my "worldly" peers. I won so many spelling, essay writing and public speaking competitions that even my teachers were scared of me. And no, I didn't base all my speeches on Awake articles. My two sisters have had almost identical experiences, although my youngest is the true brainer in the family.

Guess we were members of the 'rare-5%-with-a-brain class'...

EDIT: I could be jumping to conclusions, but I'd be willing to bet that the original poster was joking, you know, for a good laugh...I hope...lol..

You have known John and Jane for a couple of years now, and so far they appear to be the perfectly happy 'normal' married couple. They seem totally into each other and when in public usually can't keep their hands off each other.

One night they invite you and your wife or husband over to dinner, and you accept, having entertained them and been entertained by them on a number of occasions before. The dinner is great, lively chit chat all round, but you can't help noticing that when Jane looks at you she has a particularly sexy flash in her eyes (whether you are male or female is irrelevant, I suppose it could go either way). John on the other hand just seems to be comfortably digging the little eye games Jane is playing. Then the party moves into more comfortable surroundings like the living room. What happens next is not exactly what you had expected:

"Why don't you show them the video you took of us in Bermuda last year honey?" says Jane.

"Sounds cool" you say, always in the mood for seeing other places, especially warm ones!

As John hunts for the remote, Jane says "we were just looking at it last nite, it reminds us of so many good memories...hey John just hit play, I think I left it in the VCR".

John presses play, but instead of warm sandy beaches and palm trees, the TV screen is illuminated with the images of John and Jane gettin down and dirty, starring in a home movie of a decidely different nature.

You squirm nervously, searching for something to say, but Jane beats you to the punch. "Oh John, you naughty boy, were you watching that again? You know how that turns me on" and proceeds to plant a very long and tantalizingly intimate open mouth kiss on her hubby.

You laughingly say something to the standard effect of 'hey you two lovebirds, get a room why dontcha!"

Then they turn to you and say 'oh come on, its harmless', and then Jane says 'you know we have been so turned on by you two ever since we met you, and we've been just dying for the right time and way to somehow tell you how much we want to get kinky with you' and then proceed to describe the fantasies they've been having about 'swinging' with you and your husband or wife.

So what do you do?

Do you:

a. recoil in complete horror, stammering some excuse about the sitter needing to be home early and beat a hasty retreat for the door

b. pretend to recoil in complete horror, not wanting to reveal that you two have also had similar fleeting thoughts (but maybe you have mutual friends or something and would never want anyone to have something on you they could 'hold over' you) and leave, but on the way home wish you'd stayed

c. stay and get it on with them

d. something else (please specify)

Sooo...what would ya do?

yesterday, the presiding overseer (elder h) read the letter from the christian congregation of jehovahs witnesses (us branch) regarding their policy on child abuse.

all scriptures were also looked up and read.. elder h is a very prepared brother.

he is a gilead graduate and served as a missionary for about 7 years in kenya before coming home because of illness.

Grits, I think you can get sued for slander for just about anything these days, but Im no laywer. The question is a. whether they will be successful, and b. do you want to risk the time and expense of having to go to court? If I was in a similar situation as yours, where the law had refused to help me, I would probably do the site, and take my chances...there would likely be a fair amount of media surrounding any civil action launched by my abuser, and in turn pressure could be brought to bear against the DA or whatever to look into the case again...so maybe that would make it all worthwhile?? But again, Im the last person to offer an legal opinion on what you should do in this case.

I was thinking of another precedent right now, I think the site owner is based out of western NY, and basically what they do is take pictures of women entering abortion clinics and the doctor's who perform the abortions and post them up on a website, saying something to the effect 'these are killers and murderers in your community'. I believe that some have tried to sue them but have not been successful.

Incidentally Bill answered my questions as to this suggestion in another thread and I now understand his position as to why is isn't doing this at this time.

Guess I wouldn't have been made to understand if I never asked the question though, would I?
