Trouble for Richie?
by RichieRich inso today, after the meeting, one of the elders from my jc walks up to me and my mother and asks if we had time to talk.
thankfully, i had to get to work, and mom wasn't feeling great.
we said today wasn't good.. so basiccally he said that he and another brother want to meet with us on wednsday night, after the tms, to "see how things are going".. so here's quandry:.

Who Made Up The Words "THE TRUTH"

if this was an invention, they would be millionaires.
being called the truth really sets the statement apart from lets say.....the lies.

Again their use of the term is due not because they claim to be in possession of absolute Truth but because they are under the belief (mistakenly in some instances) that their faith is entirely "bible based" and therefore is the "Truth" since the Bible itself is viewed as the "Truth."
I don't totally buy this explanation. Their is to me a definate psychological factor that plays out in their use of such jargon and its a common practice used by cults and high control groups. I also agree with Doofdaddy point on it stops one from seeking further knowledge since it has already biased in their minds that they have the truth. No further searching would be necessary in the witness mind. Ticker

I did some searching for another thread which kind of answers this. The term "the truth" has been used for centuries. Used by such ones as George Fox founder of the Quakers, and on and on. It's not an uncommon term and nothing new.
while generally feeling and claiming that their views and beliefs, etc. are "correct," they do not claim that their faith is the Truth in the absolute sense of the word.
Maybe they don't officially claim that but try and show a JW mistakes from their own literature and see if they agree on this.
Theirs logical reasoning behind using such terminology, it sets up a loaded language or jargon that is unique within the group, that is used to set up a bias in the R & F's mind that the JW's are the only true religion. It manipulates their thoughts and further distances them from the norms of society, effectively giving them a feeling of elitness and seperatism.

This organization was never set up to help people, care for their problems or in any way attempt to solve their pain. The 2 witness rule was put in place to try to make an uncomfortable problem go away. Child abuse doesn't fit in with the sales pitch. Additionally, the ancillary results of it create so many problems it takes people away from selling and this cannot be tolerated. Better to sweep it under the rug, pretend it doesn't exist or by God stamp it out of existence. It matters little to those at the top if real people are in pain, being brutally assaulted, and so on. All that matters is that the selling of the literature must continue.

Even though he may have never really followed it, being raised in a JW family has its effects. Maybe he unadmittedly views it as the "truth TM ". Sometimes induced fear and guilt are powerful motivators. I agree knowledge is the best key to combat the WTBTS corruption. Once he sees sites like these or pherhaps a book exposing the Watchtower for what it is, it may open his eyes.

If your someone interested in the Witnesses I suggest you do your research on them here first before you take any plunges into their religion. And yes as Skyman stated if you currently have long hair and want to become an active witness, don't expect to keep that long hair for very long. They will tolerate it for awhile but pretty soon they will start to make subtle hints about it and how you should cut it. They will say how it is a bad example and could stumble others. Basically they will squeeze you into a typical JW mold and you will be fashioned after them, another drone. Independance and personal choice are not tolerated within the JW community. Please do your homework on them before getting to heavily involved, dont make the same mistake many of us did.

I'll tell you the honest truth, I had my hair half way down my back and earrings and Im a male. Even the CO saw this but I was never really counselled about it or DF'd. They just chose to say nothing, but then i was also inactive for a number of years and I didn't have any regular association with any witnesses nor did I seek any of their association. Im not sure if you were active what they would do, but they would probably find something to judge you about it, pherhaps the scripture which says "long hair on men is a disgrace to god." I never believed this myself as I guess im too independant spirited, and for all I know that could have been the apostles personal opinion. If God hated long hair on men why did he permit it in Israelite times? I still have longer hair not as long as I did since I recently cut it but still way longer then the Jw off the collar style, and they don't say a damn thing. If they did I would give them a piece of my mind.
