i posted a few months back that my first novel, "what a sista should do" had been published and is now available in stores.
my very first booksigning was in june at a well known bookstore in our area.
Wow sounds like the signing was a big deal, hope it makes you some coin.
The elders treated it like a big deal too, just shows that despite good intentions they are truly not qualified for their responsibility. Thats sad about your sister and your kids so sad i bet the elders would cringe if they ever become exjws and realise what they had done. At the moment they feel they are doing gods will, very frustrating.
Hope all works out and your sister comes round before too much time is lost.

I thought you were making that article up (or adding to it a bit) I didnt think theyd be that blatant, so thats actually what they said about the 'newspaper article' from satan to mislead, what a mind control cult. Im so glad im out and thinking for myself.
Ive read what the UN printed and the JWs letters to reply and jws holds no water its just them believing they cant be wrong, oh man thats heavy.

i have been thinking about this because of another post where the question asks have any of us ever been blackmailed to stay in the watchtower organization.. no, i won't say i was blackmailed; however, after i wrote my note of disassociation, the congregation overseer wanted to visit me in my home with two other elders.
i repeatedly said no, that i would not allow them to chastise me in my own home.
therefore, all of my conversations were over the phone with the overseer.
Of course they feel they are right cos they believe it or have told themselves they believe it. Its heartless but they can justfy it by saying its the 'truth'. They can give you reasoning on why disfellowshipping is loving, I know cos i would recite it to my worldly friends when theyd get pissed seeing what they were putting me thru.
A JW can justify disfellowshipping somebody the same way a terrorist can justify suicide bombings. but at the end of the day its goes against human principles and is totally wrong.
and warped.
So glad Im out now, I guess disfellowshipping has 1 good side effect. it lets that individual see how disgusting it is.

i have known some people (i dont' know if it's true or not) [and i am the kind of person that doesn't like to cause trouble] who have said that jehovah's witnesses keep tabs/records on people.
all the things they have done like if they got babtized, personal problems/experiences, arguments they may had with people, and just their general conduct as well.
have any people here found out about a "black book" where they keep records on you?
i mentioned at an 'encouraging' meeting with the elders (just a routine visit) that i thought i could improve my drinking habits, he said its a disfellowshipping offence and organised a commity hearing. in it he brought up that i had a history of heavy drinking??? i said i didnt, he said yes in your last congregation you had an instance you wanna tell us about that? i was 23 at the time i was baptised at 19 and he was bringing up something that happened when i was 17!! i told him the truth, i was driving, a friend of mine threw up. some one came to the house and saw him and we got a talking to by our parents and an elder... i said this wasnt even me but even if it was it was 2 years before i was baptised and i thought you got washed clean.
it was clear they were just looking for anything. which pissed me off but they were representing Jehovah so i tried to work in with them as best i could, what i didnt think of at the time was how the hell did he know that!! he was new to the area and the elder who sat in with our parents 5/6 years ago had moved interstate so how did this info exist?
i still wonder...
im getting pissed off thinking about it.

i remember every family study (lucky to be 4 per year) were a rotation of about 3 young people ask chapters all somewhere involving masturbation. we were 4 boys but it was cos my mum kept catching my younger brother jacking off. and finding suspicious socks under his bed... lol
i was born in 1964, a convenient 50 years after 1914. even in my early teens i was doing the sums.
i had a worse case scenario figured out - if the 1914 generation could apply to babies and even if they lived to be a 120, i would still only be about 70 years old after they'd all died!
i figured that i was part of the first wave of 'jehovah's people' that really would live to see the new order - guaranteed!!
I didn't even KNOW about the knew light in 1995 until just a few months ago!

Ive enjoyed reading this thread immensly. unclebruce your a champ. id love to chat about your studys as i plan to go to uni when i return to oz. i think you did a few more years in the sweat shop than i did. but I can relate to you. your a real success story.
like itsallgoodnow said shes an underachiever, i was the same but plan to go to school when i get back to oz. its never too late. and a friend of mine who was an electrician(although being one of the smartest guys ive ever met) was recently dissed and has gone after his true passion and gone to uni to study law.
theres hope for our misguided, detoured bunch.

my parents have noticed my negative and sad attidude lately, whenever were going to the meetings or studying and so on.
but they just think that i am negative and sad in general.
i dont think they think that its spesifically because im being dragged to the meetings.. so lately we have had a lot of "serious" talks, because theyre worried for me.
what you do from now on is entirely your decision but i thought of what id do if i were 15 again (im 26 now)- Id tell my parents I felt closed in in the religion. tell them i wanted to make my own way in life and work things out for myself but realised I lived under their roof and if they wanted me to continue going to meetings i would however fieldservice would be a problem as i am not sure enough of my beleifs to preach to other people 'yet' (give them a glimmer of hope that youll come around). I wouldnt tell them I didnt believe in god or that jws are wrong as you would have better luck telling a brick wall (it wont compute). and respect theyre authority. prove your mature enough to make this decision, help with the running of the house, if theyre witnessing mow the lawn. fix the fence wash your old mans car. your gonna have to learn to do that stuff one day anyway.
do not- go off the rails, start smoking or bring your girlfriend home. Hide you pot like everyone else.
not going to meetings is not a licence to go nuts.
this is my humble opinion, what you do is entirely up to you.
