Who else hated his kids and grandkids?
I did! They were despicable. I loved the two Vietnamese kids though. The ending was great.

how many are simply there because they don't care about religion and "where would they go"?.
how many have sold their souls just to remain in "friendships" and "family"?.
i think there are tons of jehovah's witnesses in name only.. .
There is said to be about 2.5 to 3 million JWs in the "Conscience Class" - people who attend but no longer believe that the F&DS is God's sole channel. The most recent CO to exit the WT estimated that that number was too low.

My husband and I saw it at the theatre. We LOVED it.
i have often wondered why the many issues of child abuse and pedohilia in religious organizations.. a friend of mine mentioned that they are not alone of course, many cases in other sectod too, but it seems to be out of whack in religious organizations.. i think that it may be a two fold issue:.
1) many people have these horrific tendacies and know it, many try to find solice or a solution for them in religion ( self control and such), they fail because rather than dealing with the problem they try to "control" it, in other words they try to contain it and dominate it instead of fixing it.. some may believe they are cured, only to fall "from grace" as it were.. 2) some are sub-consciously or perhaps even consciously attracted to "professions" that will alllow them to exercise those tendancies.. religious organizations tend to not be the best palce for people with these issues, there is a tendancy to "ignore" the problem raher than fix it, a tendancy to not seek professional help because it is a sign of lack of faith.. pedophiles need to be helped, for the sake of all, they need to be treated even sequestered from the possibility of commiting these horrific acts.. for their own good as well as for the sakes of children.. thoughts?.
.
designs, STOP HIJACKING THREADS!!! It is beyond annoying to have to read your OT nonsense in every thread.
I believe pedophiles seek out ways to target innocent, unsuspecting people. And it's not just religion or boy scouts, they can use your friendship or their position of authority. Look at the case of this "trusted" Toronto police officer/pedophile http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/701450
That's why it's imperative that parents be vigilant about who they trust their children with. If you have to leave your kids with a stranger, (such as daycare, Sunday school, etc), at least make sure that background checks have been conducted. A responsible church will do background checks, check references and have a rule that an adult is not supposed to be alone in a room with a child. Sadly, I have seen too many parents drop their kids off without a care and not even question if there is any kind of security policy in place.
after 6 years since i dad myself, it has just dawned on me today, that my jw wife is (probably) only still involved with her jw religion because of her religious belief in a resurrection back to life on a 'paradise earth'!.
let me please explain - our first child was a wee girl, born in 1972. her name was joanna.
she was a great, intelligent, healthy child and we were both proud parents with a marvellous hope - a 'jw' certified version of the future ahead of us!.
Geez DJK, insensitive much? We don't have all the facts so we are in no position to judge his decision. LH and his wife are the only ones in a position to make that call, not us. Croup deaths are rare but they do happen. Let's not rub salt in the man's wounds.
LH, I'm so sorry for your loss. I have often thought the same thing about my in-laws. They lost a daughter due to cancer when she was 19. His Dad resigned from being an elder at that point but in every other way they've been faithfully plugging along in that religion ever since. Sadly, their hope of Paradise seems to bring them little peace because every year that goes by they seem to become more and more negative. I have a feeling that their son's "apostacy" has really shaken their world. They want everyone together in Paradise and he's rejecting that. I think they deal with it by demonizing me and painting him as the victim of an evil scheme to break up their family. JWs will do and believe anything to rationalize their shaky beliefs.
someone told me that there was a kingdom ministry within the last 2 years that said something along the lines of "jws should follow what the wt or fds says and not the bible".
is that true?
and if so, could someone point me to a copy of it?
Modern day Bereans carefully check their Watchtowers to verify anything a new CO or Presiding Elder tells them.
Or as my mother-in-law says, "I DO research! I always look up the scriptures quoted in the Watchtower."
Take a look here! http://www.quotes-watchtower.co.uk/
Awesome! Thank you so much!
i was just wondering if any of you took time to speak openly about being an ex-witness.. sometimes, when it came up naturally, i told some of my friends; in other cases, i felt really uncomfortable talking about it.
in fact, it's a little strange, but i felt more comfortable telling casual friends rather than the people closest to me.
i often felt like it was a huge revelation to make, often to find that people weren't really that shocked.
It took me about 10 or 11 years to admit that I was raised a JW. I guess I was kind of embarrassed about it and I was afraid that people would think I was a weirdo or something. I was also trying to do the fade thing but that only works for so long. When I finally started telling people the reaction was overwhelmingly positive. 9 times out 10 people congratulate me for leaving and want to hear what life was like as a JW. I've even gotten a few dinner invites out of it.
I feel like I have a responsibility to warn people about this cult. I don't want any other child to go through what I went through. The JWs are out everyday knocking on doors and trying to convert people. If we all remain silent then how will people know to stay away from them? I don't go around with a ex-JW sign or anything but the topic usually comes up whenever the conversation turns to religion, holidays or annoying solicitors.
I've only gotten a negative reaction from two people for speaking out. Both were DFed and didn't attend anymore but I guess they still held on to the belief system and deluded themselves into thinking that the JW religion is good one. That's a really sad place to be.

This is why we always get a glazed expression every time we tell JWs that we won't go to the KH anymore because the org puts the WT ahead of God's word. They can't imagine reading the Bible without the help of a Watchtower.
I'll have to hunt down that WT and I'll post it if I find it. I really miss that Watchtower Quotes site. He made it so easy to find stuff.

Thanks all, I think I found it. It was a KM that discouraged private "spiritual research". It even went so far to suggest that those who want to study should read WT publications. No mention of studying the Bible.
