A comment I heard tonight
by Generic Man intonight i heard one of the most cruel and twisted comments i've ever heard at the platform.
the topic was the apocalypse and whether or not children will be slaughtered.
through one side of his mouth, the po stated that the bible is not clear on the matter, while out the other side he pointed to all those old testament accounts where children were killed.

Lack of evidence in "Insight" *gack* book supporting stake theory.
by kwintestal inafter a short discussion regarding the cross vs. stake theory with my grandmother i decided to refresh my memory of the wts doctrine regarding this and it's supporting arguments.
i was surprised to find that they only used one supporting reference to their claim.
it's a quote by john denham parsons written in 1896 (interesting that it took over 30 years for god to mention this to his mouthpiece).

Ya know... I've never really heard any "facts" (like JW's have any) about why we believe in the stake. It was always the cross is pagan this and we shouldnt care that he died on that. Never anything positive to support their claim. Seems weird.

What made YOU drop Christianity?
by GetBusyLiving inafter i read coc and left the dubs for a short while i considered myself christian.
the way franz explained it, all that is required is to have faith in jesus and to love your neighbor as yourself and then you will be 'saved'.
the more i started pealing away at the onion though the dumber the premise of someone dying for my 'sins' seemed, and i just lost faith in it altogether.

love2Bworldly, I think it would help you out a lot if you went out and read and researched religion, philosophy (A lot), and different cultures and science. All these different sometimes contradictory subjects will get your mind moving. And I've found that it isn't unrespectable to just say I don't know at times. But at least have the information to make an educated choice. Most folks seem to think you don't need one.

Just my two cents Schizm. We aren't the ones claiming to be Jesus/Jehover's mouthpeice.

A world for all of us
by greendawn inwhen people are with the jws one of the tactics they use to deter them from leaving is the fear of the world, with typical cunning they over-emphasize its negative things, down play or ignore its positive things, and make sweeping generalisations about its nature.
in reality the world has everything and you can choose what you want to be or make out of life eg you can be a self denying saint or a sex crazed womaniser and nobody cares.
that is the golden abundance of the world and it belongs to all and i reconnected with it after leaving the jws with that thought.

I view "the world" much the same way. Im trying to get rid of my irrational beliefs that have been driven into me in the dubs but I really would wish people would stop putting up barriers between themselves and just live with each other, and solve problems not make problems that can be easily diverted. Dunno if it can happen but in the meantime I have too much to learn about the world to worry bout that stuff.

What made me drop christianity was just taking the time to realise that there were too many choices and too many claims to consider any one of them the truth. SO many religions and denominations that I have seen change at a snap of a finger just because humans wanted to. The bible has changed to fit people's interests. The pope changing his mind on women priests and birth control. All this change just considered too human to be divine. I changed all the time during the day, why wasn't it posted in the next watchtower? I couldn't just say i believed in something one day and I called it the truth and denounced everybody else that didnt believe in what I believed. It sounded too much like a little kid taking a peice of candy and fighting with the other kids and bragging about how he got the candy. It was so primitive it really got me sick after a while. Agnosticism/Atheism is the best way for me. I just accept that we are human and we do stupid things. Why would I want to go to a holy war with somebody when I know my views could change or could be wrong the next day? Just seems stupid. I loved advancing forward too much to say I have the end all cure to everything.

by Donkey Lipz ini remember going to sunday meetings...the public talks went by fast (sometimes).
but the watchtower study to me was so boring and not interesting at all.
it felt longer than the public talk.

IT I've been thinking to myself that this is a cultish tactic for the longest. Thanks for clarifying it for me. Even after knowing the truth about the truth it's hard for me to bounce back the attacks through the meeting sermon because it is so boring. Think my brain is trying to help me out by making me go to sleep. It's immpossible for me to stay awake during the meeting after finding out that it was crap lol.

A Great WTS Article
by AshtonCA inhey all, i have been doing a lot of research on my own now that i'm no longer in contact with my mother.
i can't believe how much she is still in the 'truth' even though she left 10 years ago.
everything that she has been "learning" over the last 10 years after our departure really isn't any different than it was when we were still in.

"Get rid of religion... get rid of the problem. Be a good human... no problem. If "God" wants to throw His 2 cents in ...let Him speak up for a change. Enquiring minds want to know... but not to the point of using "religion" to control my fellow man. Live and let live."
This is a profound statement... Sheesh that's awesome.
And I have to agree. I really doubt the leaders are litterally thinking about how they are torturing their members and contemplating on how much power they have. I feel that they really do believe in what they are doing. They've mastered having one truth while "solving" problems that contradict their truth. They believe to death that they're the spokesmen of the infallible religion but then they receive notes of high depression rates and increasing poverty of their people. So they send out watchtowers of how it's ok to go out and work a little more to build up your field service. Or send out an awake about new ways of helping out their depression. After a few months they forget about it like it never happened and then put in messages in the assemblies about how great their organization is doing. Sheesh it seems like the organization would be the most dominating power in the world the way they buff up the organization's credentials.

Six Billion Hearts Will Soon Stop Beating. . .
by ACEofCAD inannounced our circuit overseer last night in his talk about the urgency to preach because of the times.
followed by a silence that was broken with ohhhs and ahhhs.
he said that a couple of times throughout his part, simulating a beating heart with his fist.

I've always had more non-JW friends than JW friends. And when I say more I meant one. And I always use to have nightmares about him dieing. And I've never had a good relationship with my family since every other word out of their mouths were how much the world (My only friend) would die at armeggedon. Just sickened me. That's what always turned me off frmo the truth. Even when I couldn't argue against their doctrine and ideology I just knew I couldnt believe in the religion. It is really sick.

Anyone wanna pick apart the special talk?
by IP_SEC inwhy did jesus suffer and die?.

I just had this talk earlier in the day. Total bullcrap as usual. Deceptive drivle just what we have come to expect. The funniest thing though, I almost laughed out loud when I read the words that my dad said exactly. He wasn't even trying to act like he wasnt reading it either. Thousands of people reading a peice of paper at once, doesn't sound all that special.
