Here's a tongue twister for you. Prove to me why the Bible is anymore valid than me writing on a peice of paper, "I (Daunt) am God and I created the Universe". My paper would actually seem to have more validity than your bible. At least I exist in this realm all that's left is to prove that I'm god.

No you cannot prove or disprove the existence of God, however this does not make the theist's point any more valid than making the claim, "You cannot prove or disprove the existence of a unicorn with a coldsore on his lip". Just because you cannot disprove the existence of God doesn't mean a person should go on a wild goosechase and claim that they know God or his name, or his purposes or even if he is the only God. It's almost lieing to claim these things without evidence. I know this will go on deaf ears so I'll just let the arguement insue. Sorry if I sounded like a jerk I have a habit of that when I'm not meaning to.

An Observation About Life
by JamesThomas inbeing consciously present in this moment of life's expression, being open and meeting with this present moment of reality, being truly with what is actually here without judgments and mental commentary, does not seem to leave much room for beliefs in deities and their shenanigans.
in fact such imaginings only seem to steal away the vibrant aliveness of here.
so, perhaps, it is when we are not that much present with the truth of life, right here, right now, and rather lost in mental interpretations that we feel a need to become involved in the drama of gods and religion.

I agree with everything that has been said here, and sheesh learning a lot every second but I was just wondering. I'm big on science and understanding every detail the world has to offer. However, it seems that even this, even if it's based in reality, is distracting from the real life. Does these advancements of human kind; intellectually, physically, medically all of those "ally's", have a place in this way of living?

I didn't ask to be born
by rebel8 inthat was my response to my jw mother when she was interrogating me as a teen as to why i was depressed.
she barraged me with scriptures commanding me to be joyful in j's service, saying it was wrong of me to feel unsatisfied with my life and sad....so not only was i sad, i was committing a wrong against the almighty for feeling so.. my mother would question me as to why i was sad, and i'd say, "what do i have to be happy about?
i have few friends and little to look forward to in life.

I think this is true for every JW parent ever. One characteristic that is pretty sad with my family is that they forget something that happened that's bad. Like all of the times I acted out and said I didn't want to go to the meetings anymore, the next day forgotten. When I got arrested it was like nothing happened the next they. And now they talk to me like I love the truth more than they do. Self Deception eh.

Sad thing is, my sister was just giggling along thinking that she was one the great shamulite maiden while she was reading it. I don't even want to think about how many depraved lonely sex deprived JWs there are. (looks at himself and strikes a tally on the wall).

Sorry to go kind of off the topic but... if it really was the truth, why do they have to reinforce it so much? If I know something I don't say it every second. I just know. And why the need to go to the meetings constantly, if we knew it was the truth we'd know. Wouldn't have to be forced into knowing. Sheesh they freakin call it "The Truth" how insecure can you get.

I think we can all share your sentiments Charisma. However, I feel that going through the JW experience can actually be beneficial. You learn so much from realising the truth from the truth. Of course it was hard but now you understand what most people do not understand. People can control, they can make a world that seems perfect to you but when you wake up and smell the coffee, it's one of the worse places to be. Knowing this is a powerful tool for life. And using this knowledge you got from the JW's will help out your judgments. Learn about yourself, and you'll be alright. Stay in there.

Charisma, if you allow your personality and your understanding to be left in the hands of something or someone outside of yourself you will have no confidence in your decision making no matter what your affiliation is in. Learn from everything, learn from different cultures different philosophies, different religions and you will be alright. Please trust in yourself.
