I think a lot of this depends on the local congregation. I was associated with some congregations that were very good about stopping in to see the "weak " and encourage them. These were not counselling sessions either. They were just visits. As I was fading, one elder drove thirty miles just to visit me. He didn't counsel or lecture. He said they missed me and then just visited and chit chatted. I actually went back for a while after that. But then I switched back to the congregation I was assigned to...way different story. One of my last times in field service, we passed by an inactive family's house. Someone suggested we stop and say hi. The p.o said no, it was a waste of time, they know where we are, etc. I couldn't believe it. Of course when I quit there was no visit. My mom has been there for 9 years now, making meetings hit and miss, trying sometimes, not trying others, one older sister used to visit her, but since her death 6 or 7 years ago my mom has had no witnesses visit her. She even sees them in service and they skip her house. It is quite sad.

Why don't JW friends come over and say hello?
by JH ini always wondered why jw's didn't stop by to say hello, just to encourage or by friendship?.
but if i showed up at the hall, after many months, they would be happy to see me, and would come to talk to me, and ask what,s going on in my life as if they were really interested in me.
so, if they were happy to see me at the hall, why wouldn't they be happy showing up at my place too.. why is it that only the elders come over to see me once in a blue moon?.

Or perhaps, Abbagail, we read it, investigated it, used our brains and decided it was ridiculous and then got a laugh out of it.

recently, my mom was threatened by the elders to stop associating with me or else.
i guess she feared i was becoming an "apostate".

Don't give up! My mom is inactive, but still finds it necessary from time to time (Memorial, Assembly Time, Visits from active witness relatives, etc) to get on a spiritual kick. When she does, she'll spout off about not wanting to discuss certain things with me, or she'll remind me that she does not approve of certain elements of my life etc..but then, after a few days, it's right back to normal. I think that in the case of a decent, loving parent, as already stated, biology wins out...no truly loving parent will totally shut off their child. They might be able to distance themself for a relatively short time, but eventually their instincts will cause them to show the love that is natural

Wow..they are really gonna have their hands full. I may disagree with their religious views and lifestyle, but they will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

Did you say "I love you?"
by serendipity ini grew up in an emotionally constipated family.
my parents didn't hug us or tell us they loved us.
they were slightly affectionate with each other, but i don't think i ever heard them express their love for each other, in front of us kids.

I don't remeber saying it growing up. I know I didn't feel it. I say it now to my mom. I still hate saying it though. I always think it sounds hollow and forced.

Do you still call it "the truth"?
by True North indo you find youself still calling it "the truth" even though you are an ex-jw?
for instance, in one posting i just read, the poster wrote "when i was in the truth..." .
not a big deal, perhaps, but really not such a good thing either as it's a habitual holdover from the program of mental conditioning we were subject to.

I try not to, just like I try not to say "Brother " and "sister," but soemtimes when I am talking to my mom it just kind of slips out.

Does anything think wts could become dangerous when it falls?
by lighthouse19something injust noticing what happened with waco, jonestown, heaven's gate etc.

I am also of the opinion that it will not fall. It will fade. So many witnesses are really wanting to be normal and to fit in with society in general. More and more witness kids go to college, play sports, etc. There are less pioneers. Meeting attendance is down. The organization may be as strict as ever but from what I see most rank and file witnesses just float along anymore, most generally because they were born into it..as one elder I knew used to say about ones we termed spiritually weak.. "they go to church at the kingdom hall"
