  I went mainly to boost my ego. No one really saw it coming even though I had been removed as a servant a few months before. When it was announced, the sister behind me literally gasped. A couple of young pioneer sisters that I was friends with had to go to the back because they were crying so hard. And one of the elders' wives (he was on my committee) and their daughter wnet home because she souldn't stop crying.

  And I really was intent on going back at the point. SO I thought I would get off on the right foor by showing repentance from the get-go.

  The 11 year ols I spoke of was not baptized. THis was in the late 80s when unbaptized publishers were still disasscoiated and treated as if they were disfellowshipped.

  I have actually know of witness children as young as 6 being baptized. I was 10 myself.

  i remember years ago when i was a "devout" jw there was a co-worker of mine that spent every waking minute trying to convert jw's to born-again christianity.

  i was abit afraid of him because i thought he was demon-possessed.

  he had all of the old wt publications and spent many hours debating with jw elders.

  There was a witness woman in Texarkana named Mattie that professed to be of the anointed. She was disfellowshipped for apostasy, but the decision was overturned on appeal. A few months later she was again before the committee for apostasy and disfellowshipped. She was disfellowshipped the whole time I lived ther (4 years). She seldomly missed a meeting, always turned in time and insisted that she was wrongly disfellowshipped. She was scorned by the congrgation. I even heard one pioneer sister say she had committed the unforgivable sin. I told the sis she'd feel funny if Mattie ever got reinstated. She said it'd never happen cause Mattie had grieved the holy spirit. Well... Matie moved to a different cong and was quickly reinstated. I never spoke to her and she died shortly after being reinstated. It a very sad situatuion.

  i grew up in an inner city area with many ethnic groups.

  i saw very little racism or prejudice in the hall.

  i'm wondering if my experience is isolated.

  I grew up in mixed congregations. I never saw racism. Social class distinctions were evident though. SOme congs were biased toward the poor, with only pioneer janitors being considered exemplery. Other congs though definitely favored the wealthier members

  Once more...Chappy has every right to express a dissenting opinion...even one that offends me so much. Thankfully, most of us here are intelligent enough to see through the smoke, mirrors, and bull shit.

  There are some groups, both liberal and conservative, htat use phony science and phony research and self-imposed credentials to lend creedence to their bigotry and agenda. We just have to be smart enough to know when that's happening.

  Thanks, Big Tex. Ditto here. My family kept me away from homosexual cause they were sinners. They had to be afraid of them. But it was a married hetero sexual man who abused me.

  The difference in these issues is consent. Two adults consenting to sex is one thing. An adult taking advantrage of a child is a totaly different issue. It is rape. Using force, intimidation, or trickery, or just playing on naivete to secure sexual partners will never be acceptable to me.

  As far as homosexual acts being disgusting, I understand that fully. The thought of having sex with a woman is physically repulsive to me. SO I can understand that aspect, but just because we find something distasteful does not mean it is wrong.

  Thanks Alan. I really hope something comes of this. The hypocrisy of JWs in condemning the sex abuse that goes on in other religions while ignoring, then denying, their own is inexcusable.

  As for walking in on two guys, as a youngster, I would've much rather walked in two guys than on my mom and dad..which happened. YIKES!
