Spiritual trial and tribulation more like it. I remember dragging my two kids, 3 and 2 to the meetings by myself when my hubby was working, trying to make them sit still and be quiet, only to have some bitchy elders wife come up afterwards to say, looks like you had a hard time with the kids, once you get them here more regularly it will get easier. I wanted to tell her where to go, like, you are so loving and christian and you see me struggling with the kids, do nothing and then come up and remark on it. If you can't help out, shut up. I wasn't looking for her help but I wasn't looking for her judgement. I remember crying on the way to meetings because I didn't want to go but felt I had too. Thank God I saw the light and left, it is funny to see ppl who become witnesses, super zealous as they say, and then after a few years, ppl relax around them, stop being on their best behavior and they see what its really like. Then all the witnesses are so shocked when they up and leave. I would rather stick knives in my eyes then walk in a kingdom hall again, it just gives me the chills to think of it. Spiritual paradise, umm, nope, spiritual hell.

Hi there derek, i am in new brunswick, below quebec, if you do go to Montreal, make sure to check out St.Catherine street, if you like funky as your name implys, you'll find it there, but, last time I checked, not after dark!lol. Be sure to pack the warmest clothes you have, and I mean the warmest, cause eastern canada can be extremely cold that time of year. You will run into school breaks most likely, but as another post said most are heading south, hope you have a great time. P. S. if you don't know french well, don't try to speak it, the natives get more than alittle annoyed, but as most speak english you shouldn't run into any difficulty. Have fun and keep warm.

dear help, you are so young, besides the fact that he part of a cult, he DRINKS AND DRIVES. Do you want your young life ended by someone who isn't in control of themselves? He is a troubled young man. You are just a distraction to him, he said as much by telling you that you'd never be married to him. I am sorry to say these things and hurt you, but you need to get away from him, and find a guy who can bring you home to meet his parents. If you are doing the same things he is, drugs, drinking etc., Please get Help. You deserve so much more. Your heart will heal, I know, I am 32 and I remember 16 and first love. You will look back down the road and say what was I thinking. Are you rolling your eyes yet? He needs professional help to get his life on track. You can't help him thru this. Protect yourself. If you don't listen to any of this, please hear me, don't ever get in a car with him if he's been drinking, no guy is worth dying for.

I am not here to judge you, but as a wife who has been cheated on, let me fill you in. You say she (his wife) is the megabeast just as he described. What are you thinking? Do you think he is going to say well, she's a good person etc. He is trying to justify his actions. I have been on the recieving end and yes that other woman thought I was this and that. My heart was torn out, I had to go to work ( we all worked together, different shifts) and see her every day knowing she wanted my husband to leave me and his daughters 5 and 6 years old because they were "in-love". News flash when you make a committment you have a responsibility to resolve it no matter what ends, regardless, before you think about getting involved with someone else. You make think his wife is a bitch and may be she is but hon, I am sure she has her reasons. If he was as dishonest with her as he is with you no wonder she is pissed. I don't want to hurt you but you should know that he as a witness is probably very ashamed of his relationship with you. Please think about what you are doing. Do you want your child to be raised that way? To be trained at lying, like his father. I can tell you, there are a lot of liars in that religion, they have to lie or lose everyone they love. If he won't be a man to stand by your side and say I love her, and that's that, then, you deserve better and so does your child. I can guarntee you that he isn't telling you alot.

Why I am leaving JWD
by logansrun ini'm leaving this forum...at least temporarily.
as i mentioned in conversation over dinner at the chicago apostafest, my upcoming school schedule (which begins next week) combined with my workload will make it very difficult to be an active member on this forum.
perhaps i'll check in occassionaly when life is a little slower but for now i'd better distance myself from the on-line scene or else the other elements in my life will suffer.

I find myself responding to this thread both in agreement and disagreement, I agree, that some people don't move on with their lives, and wallow in pain, not that I am judging, cause I haven't lived their experience, so who am I to say when its time to move on for them, and I agree that people have had worse upbringings, but that does not in any way diminish the hell some have gone thru, I look at myself as one of the lucky ones, I got out. However, you say there is no such thing as normal, I say, not true, what is normal for me, may not be for you, but it is my normal, my contentment, my happiness, and to deny its existance is to say life has no hope. I think there is hope for all to find their normal. And don't you think that not being told you are special is one of the reasons why many who have been brought up as witnesses have no ambition, no self belief or self worth. It is hard to become a viable, productive individual when you are basically told from childhood, you are not special. I tell my children every day that they are special because they are to me. I want their talents to flourish because someone had faith in them when they were too young to have it in themselves. I am making a wild guess that you don't have children. When you do, you may find yourself rethinking some of your views. At least, I hope so, because we teach our children who they are, and my children will be taught they are special and unique, because they are.

When did the Watchtower first allow appeals against disfellowshipping?
by steve2 inmany thanks for the people who answered my first question about whether appeals against disfellowshipping have ever been successful.
given that the appeal process may on rare occasions work in the individual's favour, does any one know
1) when the watchtower first introduced the right of appeal and

i don't know about when it was allowed but i can tell you our experience, when my husband was 18 he and some other witnesses friends drank some peach snapps, got loaded, and when somebody talked, my hubby told them the truth, the elder committee decided to disfellowship him, his father, a former elder appealed it, the second elder body set up by the society felt he shouldn't even be reproved, he was young and made a mistake. So, so much for every elder body having god's holy spirit, ha! The decision to disfellowship was revoked and he was publically reproved to settle the first elder body who were livid. They reproved someone against their own judgement to pacify this body of elders. They should all be policitians in my opion. Right and wrong are very subjective things to them. And guess what? When my hubby was envolved in a committee meeting years later, his old cong. was called up the elder they spoke to say he was so disgusted with him not being disfellowshipped that he almost, almost, stepped down from being an elder. I know this because they told me this from their mouths when trying to convince me not to marry him. I think that probably anybody who knew how to work the system could get a disfellowshipment revoked, just kiss some bethel ass.

the creation book
by mama inwhen the tsuami, not sure if i spelled that correctly, hit and information poured in my husband made a comment i had never even thought of, the news report that he was watching had scientists on explaining how the t had actually nocked the earth off its orbital course, to which he says, " i guess they will have to throw out the creation book now", of course meaning the references in the book about how life could not exist under any circumstances other than the current orbit, etc.
well, now that the earth is rotating on a different orbit, life still exists.
p.s., i am not a scientist in any way and if i have explained this incorrectly, feel free to enlighten me.

My JW mom refuses to attend my wedding!?!?!?
by d_yell inok...i just don't understand this.
i am getting married in a few months and i thought this would be the happiest part of my life.
right now it is the most agonizing!

mama
I am so sorry to hear about your problem. My dad is a very zealous JW and when his sister got married in a church years ago he did attend. As some have pointed out, it is a personal decision, however, much depends on how intimidated she is by her elders. I was disfellowshiped once and then reinstated so I can tell you her reaction probably has to do with the fact that she is still being judged by many in her hall. Even when time passes many reinstated ones are terrified of doing anything that may reflect badly on them because they already feel unworthy and low on the totempole. Try and reason with her gently and tell how much it means to you. If she still feels she can't go then maybe its just best to let her come to the reception. If you change your wedding plans to suit her you could end up really resenting her for ruining your day and please remember you are starting your own family with this man and his wishes should come before hers. That's my two cents anyway, if she won't budge for you, why should you do it for her? I hope you have a very happy wedding day and twenty five years down the road when your daughter or son is getting married at least you know you'll be there to support them.

Does Talking Negatively About "Jehovah" Bother You??
by minimus indo you ever feel nervous or a little guilty talking about "jehovah god" in a negative way?
?

mama
Actually, I don't. My problem is with an org. that tried to dictate my life on false theocracy. God or Jehovah, didn't do that, the witnesses did. I don't lump Him in with them, I'm sure He is just as appalled by their actions supposedly on His behalf.

by mkr32208 inwe watched my 3 year old nephew today.

It breaks my heart to hear your post and the responses. When I was a child I was terrified of the demons and armmagedon and that bible story book was the bible horry book and then I turned around and put my kids through that, luckly we left when they where 2 and 4 but they still have bad memories, and my oldest still asks me if she'll make it to the paradise even though we have tried to teach her that paradise is being with Jesus the brainwashing really gets stuck. My mother however made my decision not to raise them as JWS so much easier, she was lecturing me on going back to the meetings and said "well, when your children die at armmagedon I hope you feel you made the right choice" at which point I told her she would never see me or them again if she ever dared say that again, she zipped it pretty quick. Just goes to show, even when your an adult they still try to scare you with threats. Please be really firm with your wife about raising the kids as non-jws or I promise she will be indoctrinating them behind your back, cause that's what witnesses with unbelieving spouses are trained to do.
