  in today's wall street journal there was an excellent article about stem cell research.

  the united states used to be number 1 in science research.

  we are now number 2 and continually on the decline even more.

  Cloning sounded far-fetched too and science has been able to do this. The same thing was said about putting a man on the moon and guess what? It happened.

  All cloning is is taking someone's DNA and putting it into another cell. But you will NEVER get the Hollywood type clones with everything the same (b/c of different environmental expression) and the fact that you can't clone someone's knowledge (unless you think the movie, the Sixth Day, was onto something). I believe they also still have the problem w/telomeres meaning the clones don't live as long as a regular person would due to the disintegrating telomeres (which is why you would want to clone a younger person, I suppose).

  I would also like to point out that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Scientists tend to exaggerate their claims in order to get more funding, especially in medical research.

  You can certainly get stem cells from other places than embryoes, though that is the easiest source. I don't see why scientists can't remove the genetic material from a given cell, put stem cell genetic material in it, then grow that batch. Stuff like that has been done before so it ain't impossible.

  i guess there are two theories eh?

  one that it came from dead dinos and decaying ancient plant material and the other that it is a normal geological process.. has anyone ever done any research on this?

  I shouldest mentioned IP_Sec. If Wikipedia containeth not the amount of knowlege to satisfyeth thine curiosities, then thou canst use Google to searcheth more. To wit, "oil + biogenic," then thou shalt find all that shall wet thine appetite.

  FAFSA WTF confusing???

  the sar said my efc was $31700, so i thought thats the amount of money i get from the government to pay for college.

  well tuition and everything else is about $17000, and i pulled a $2625 loan from bank of america.

  i just went to my e-pay account thing, and i still owe about $4500...wtf??

  i wanted to join the corps, but my dad would disown me if i had anything to do with the military, and he's not even a strong witness himself. im scared to get a job, none of my friends are working or have worked during their freshman year. i think i'm going to drop down to 12 hours anyway but theres a new policy where you still pay full tuition.

  Can you get a job on campus. At my university, if you can't pay, they put you to work for the university or hook you up with financial support. Speak more with the university financial aid office. How about the Coast Guard instead of the military?

  Questions for God

  let's say that a being appears to you claiming to be god.

  what questions would you ask it, or what miracles do you tell it to preform in order to determine whether this being is god?

  he would have to make himself visible, and allow me to record the transaction with several skeptic friends.

  i would formulate a "random" sentence in my head, and ask him to recite it. i would do this a few times.

  i would then go and collect james randi's million dollar reward, and do the morning talk show circuit. god would have to be willing to stick with me for the whole deal, answering all sorts of questions about human suffering and performing undeniable miracles on skeptical people before a live studio audience. if he is omnimax, he would be able to do all these things, no matter how ridiculous. and if he truly loved mankind, he would do them as long as they harmed no one else. i can think of dozens of miracles that would convert me on the spot.

  then i would ask for a near future prophecy. the rules of the prophecy would be have to be observed. they are found here under the heading regarding prophecies that could not be contrived:

  Wouldn't that simply prove that it's a supernatural being and not an eternal absolute that many call God?

  for me, it'd be: hawaii..........no more filthy rotten lousy snow in april and may......or any other time of the year for that matter..............hell, i'd be willing to live on the beach if i could..........

  uh why $31700 when tuition is only about $17000.

  That probably refers to the total contribution expected from your family over a 4 year degree program.

  I suggest ROTC if you really, really need money, Navy preferably... less chance of going to Iraq.

  man long ago left the natural order of things that keep the earth as a living habitat in balance and healthy.. he now manipulates the earth to make it bend to his wishes so that he can create paper (worthless profit), accumulate multiples of what he needs to survive and make himself as comfortable as he possibly can.. as the billions in the developing countries become more consumptive the world will eventually be used up.. that will be the true armageddon that mankind will face.
