How BIG was YOUR JW book-bag?
by Scully inwhen i was replying to nicolas' question in another thread, i used the following scripture to show why jws are always so tired:"the scribes and the pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of moses.
therefore all the things they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but do not perform.
they bind up heavy loads and put them upon the shoulders of men, but they themselves are not willing to budge them with their finger.

hehehehe.
This reminded me of those huge, suitcase like bags that the elders and COs would take to the assemblies. I remember the vendors out around Yankee stadium selling those plastic magazine and book covers--about 25 cents each. My bag? PUH! I never carried one, only a little purse, made sure I had only a little bit of money (if I had more than $5 on me my dad would make me donate it) my bible and maybe a songbook. My dad would make us study for hours and hours the Sunday WT article, but I would often not, so I always claimed that I gave the magazine away to a classmate at school. That would get me off the hook. -

Ladies--are you pregnant??? Help out HERE!!!
by LDH inhttp://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=23507&site=3&page=2 .
in the above thread, a poster named double dee states that she was pregnant at bethel.
note the advice of the bethel doctor:.

The reason she consulted me was because I am an RN. She and her husband are very active at bethel. Sometimes witnesses do flip flop like that, especially when appearances count more than anything else, as in her case.

What Did Jesus Mean?
by Francois inremember this scripture in matthew:.
[28] come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and i will give you rest.. [29] take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for i am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.. [30] for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.. do you think this refers to labor in terms of heavy work in order to support one's self and family?.
or does it really refer to those who were heavily laden with the demands of an organized religion, such as the judism of his day, heavy with the burden of the pharisees?

Or does it really refer to those who were heavily laden with the demands of an organized religion, such as the Judism of his day, heavy with the burden of the pharisees? And also to those heavily laden with the demands of a present-day organized religion, heavy with the burdens of the modern-day pharisees of the WTBTS - who boldly go where men have been for millenia, right back to the practice of the Mosaic law (claiming its principles still apply)?
I think this is what Jesus really meant, IMO.
I think this scripture goes hand in hand with another scripture, "beware of false prophets,"etc. The WTS isa false prophet and the anti-christ. -

Regrettably, such practices as using religious images and repeating prayers by rote also discourage reasoning.
So does reading all that Watchtower Publishing Corporation crapola. Or how about those talk outlines? Was any kind of reasoning used at all by the person giving the talk?
I am so glad Im not a dub anymore.....!

Well.....
My sister has been a bethelite for over 5 years now..she went there to find a husband and not have to live in the "real world," so to speak. She became pregnant before she got married. Of course I couldn't go to her wedding or reception, but most definitely I was the first person on her calling list when she wanted me to refer her to an abortion clinic. I helped her out, but I let her just how much I disapprove of what she did, and I let her and her screwball husband know what hypocrites they all are!! -

Where do you enjoy most - Making Love???
by Celtic inwhere do you enjoy most - making love with one another, making that deep down, soul to soul shared connection?.
for me, if it were possible, it s/he would be out within nature, upon the woodland floor, with a few sleeping bags and cushions, amonst the leaf strewn woodland floor, at night with the moon overhead, owls calling, wow!!
the connection there i imagine would be pretty awesome, still never done it.. or on top of the cliffs, with the waves pounding below, sending ripples of vibration through the hillside above.. in stormy weather, on the beach, each place adding / sharing another shared perspective in our one soul love creating.. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm if only.. peace, lots of it, kindness, joy and great friendships, music, wine and general jollity and boogeying it down.. love.

What reason to be JW for so long?
by ashitaka inwhy were you a jw for so long?

I was born into it, my parents were both very active and zealous, my grandparents and great-grandparents also. It was expected of me to continue in the family tradition of sorts to pioneer, go to Bethel, get married and have Watchtower babies. I rebelled from the time I was about 9 years old because I wanted to be like my friends and celebrate birthdays and christmas, and be able to do school plays and join the girl scouts. There was a time when I did everything I could to get DFd, especially after 1975, then I finally was. Never looked back. I always thought the whole Armageddon/Paradise on earth thing was BS.
