Guilty. Summer of 1995 in Oshkosh, WI. Got rid of my book years ago. But I still have the photo. As far as I know, I'm the only one that got df'd. I really like our C.O. he and his wife were from Hawaii, and were sooo cool. Not every discussion you had with them had to be spiritual. They liked to have fun.
His first name was Leonard and his wife was Roxanne, but I can't remember there last name, anyone out there know?
Funny experience though, out in service during pioneer school. We were practicing approaching people on the street and as I approached a woman and began to talk to her she took off in a run away from, and stupidly I chased her for a minute yelling that I just wanted to talk! Apparently she knew enough to get away before being sucked in! Only wished I had gone with her then!

Pioneer Takes Baby Out In Zero Wind Chill
by rocketman inthough i haven't been in the mood to discuss jws lately, i had to post this one.
it's a keeper and shows how fanatical they can get:.
on my way to work in our city's downtown area i regularly see a pioneer walking up and down the street, holding up his magazines.

Glad you saw that and not me, I would've given him a piece of my mind. Poor kid, that's child abuse! My parents used to do the same thing to my brothers and I. No matter the weather, we had to preach the good news. When I became a teenager and could drive, I'd offer to drive and take along some friends on Sat. morning. We'd just drive around all morning listening to the radio, or go to one of our houses and hang out til noon.

Thanks for reminding me of the bathroom beatings! Had blocked that from my memory. I shoulda kept all the money my parents made me put in the collection boxes, (to make our family look good, ya know a kid putting money in the box), then I could've paid for your therapy sessions.

congregational cliques
by chuckyy init was my experience during my 13 yrs as a jw that congregations usually had a social clique.
in other words, there would be a group of people in a congregation that would only associate (and sometimes only go out on field service too) with people within that social clique.
if you were in the clique, fine.

Were your parents control freaks?
by Dustin ingrowing up in the jw religion and having a dad who was an elder, i remember how controlling they were.

Hey Dustin, where in WI are you from?
yeah, my parents were horrible control freaks! Elders daughter here, had to set the example! I still resent them for my childhood. My children are not raised like that at all. -

problems with JW girlfriend and her family
by starcrossedpimp ini'll make this short, but i've been looking for answers and need actual human communication- not just a book or website.. up until 12/26/04, my "girlfriend" and i had been sneaking around to see each other.
we became professionals.
she would always say "i shouldn't be doing this" and such, but eventually that mindset wore away and our love took over.

If there really is a connection with the two of you and you are in real love, then just be patient, she'll come around. I was 19 when I was df'd because I chose to be. I would've left when I was 18, but like your girlfriend I was brainwashed and fearful of losing the only friends and family I had ever know. The first year or two away from everyone was very difficult, and painful. Being a Jw all your life makes you very naive to the ways of the world. It did get better, lots better. I'm now happily married to my husband of 4 yrs. and have 3 beautiful childern and am happier now than I have ever been. I never fully got over losing my friends and family, but it's like moving far away, you make new friends and my family now is all I need. Just let her know that the door to you will be open for when she's ready.

Were You On The Same Wave Length As The Others In The Hall???
by minimus incan you get in trouble for playing chess, having a very large gathering, going to a pg13 movie, etc.??????
so many answers amounted to this----as the answer-----"you just know better, that's all".
"mature ones" just "knew" without asking whether something was right or wrong, doable or not.

I pretended to be because I was an elders daughter and was required to set the example. When I turned 18 I decided that I'd had enough of their crap and left!

When my brothers and I were younger we used to have to sit on the inside seats with my Dad on the aisle seat. My Dad is extremely hard of hearing so anytime we had to go to the bathroom during a meeting, we had to practically shout to him that we had to go. One time my brother told him that he had to go, so my Dad shouted back #1 or #2. My brother had to yell back #2 so my Dad let him out of our row and told him for all to hear 'Don't forget to wipe and use a wet one'. The whole congregation died of laughter on that one. Made the Sunday Watchtower a bit more bareable!
