  My first topic, my struggles with the dubs.

  first and formost i'd like to say thankyou to everyone who has ever posted here before, your posts have made me laugh, cry smile and frown.

  up until about two weeks ago, i was nervous about posting here, tonight, at 5:04am as i write this, i am no longer so, the fact of the matter is, i really don't give a damn as to whether or not someone in the local congrigation reads this or not.

  i'm not a jw, i never have been, and barring getting really steamingly drunk for a good few years on the trot or suffering some other similarly catastrophic brain trauma, i never will be.

  i am forcing myself to do this - i feel nauseated, depressed... my hands are shaking.

  i know many of you see this and laugh.

  but for those of you who arn't, you know how hard it is for me to do this.

  Welcome to the board

  All of the replies are wonderful! Thinking for yourself must be the hardest thing when you've been raised in this religion. My husband was raised very strictly. I think he feels like what else is there if I am not a JW? Like you he does not know any other life. I would say pick one subject or doctrine about being in the truth that bothers you and research it. The way that sexual abuse is handled within the truth is what started me down this road.

  Is it possible that a child molester is NOT a pedophile?

  i realize many here have (unfortunately) much more experience with this sort of thing than i do.

  any personal insight, or direction to research material, would be appreciated.. there was a letter to all boes about 8-10 years ago, saying that if an appointed elder had any incidents of child abuse in his history, he had to step forward & admit such, so that his status as an elder could be reviewed.

  none of the elders in this congregation said anything.. it was later (maybe 5 years ago) discovered that one of the elders had sexually abused his daughters some time in the 80's, before his appointment.

  I understand asking this question. Someone I love very much molested my sister. Here are the questions that go through my mind, if he only did it once is he a pedophile? If he never molested anyone else, is he a pedophile? Was he just a frustrated teenager and what the hell kind of excuse would that be? One time sure can do a lot of damage as is evident with my sister--she is so messed up.

  SO WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE IF SOMEONE IS A PEDOPHILE OR CHILD MOLESTER! NUMBER OF TIMES???? SHOULD THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE?????

  last saturday, me and a friend from the hall decided to go to nc state fair together.

  i have been told that the state fair is not a big deal in other areas of the country, but here in these parts, it means alot to us, expecially since we live in/near the capital city.

  about the friend: he's a year younger than me, and we go to the same school.

  all the talk about prince made me think about what it's like when a famous person comes to the kh.

  about 2 years ago, terence howard was in toronto filming a movie and attended our kh.

  he actually studied with 2 elders while he was here.

  hello this is my first time on this web site.i am an inactive jw.

  married to a jw.didnt believe in there teachings for many years.. looked and read at your site for along time.

  its one of the best.iam not very good at typing or spelling.and cyber communication.. hard to have a marriage when one believes and the other one doesnt.we were both raised jws .but i changed and she didnt.. common story.too years to learn to think for myself.

  Hello and Welcome I have a similar situation. I have been fading for a short time but, I've had doubts for a long time! My husband is still technically in the truth but not very active. He was raised in this religion (hate to call it the truth) and I think it scares him to think of life without it. I was young when my parents started studying, but I remember life without this religion. It is still very hard to come to grips and let go of a way of life that I have been living for such a long time!

  Seeing that others feel the way I do has been a big help!

  What silly rules did your congregation make up?

  elders were famous for making up stupid rules with no bible base at all as an ego trip i guess, what were some of yours?

  i am not talking about the stupid rules that we all had to follow, just the congregation specific silly ones.. 1. having to button your jacket while on stage (this was later changed due to all the elders having a beer gut).

  2. suits only or no privledges.
