After becoming a Catholic, I went thru a spiritual dry period during which I sort of lost interest in my faith. At that time, I began reading books by atheists and skeptics, and they for a time convinced me that Jesus never existed and that Christianity was invented by Paul and that there was no God. This lasted for a few months. But then I sat down with my NT and read Paul's letters carefully and slowly. I could find no hint of deceit in this man. And I re-read the Gospels, slowly. Gradually my faith returned and I returned to weekly church services and a regular personal prayer life. I now have a better understanding of atheists and agnostics and their concerns, having read some of their literature, and I'm thankful for that. Love, Jaypeeto

Have any of you experienced a spiritual 'dead end'?
by truth_about_the_truth inlet's face it...most of us were or still are a part of this org.
because we felt a need to bring some meaning or purpose into our lives.. at the beginning there are lot of things that catch our attention, seem to make sense and feel ourselves progressing as individuals.. upon studying, meditating, pioneering, reaching out for privileges, etc.
(doing everything the society pushes).

filthy kingdom halls
by what_Truth? ini don't know if this is wt policy, but our hall had a policy of assigning bookstudy groups to clean the hall.
the few times my family actually showed up (along with anyone else) that the hall was always in a disgusting state, especially the bathroom.
the woman's washroom had the most revolting smell you could ever imagine.

Not to offend anyone intentionally, but our Hall had an English and a Spanish Sunday WT study. And for some reason, the Spanish cong would never clean the restrooms. We would come in for our meeing and find the restrooms absolutely filthy. The ladies room was the worst, with used sanitary napkins and poop-filled diapers all over the floor with the EMPTY trashcan standing just a few feet away. Love, Jaypeeto

Some JWs Are "In The Closet"
by minimus inby that, i mean, some witnesses will not just now "out" themselves because of various fears and concerns.
some of us are still "in the closet".
so to speak, because we're not ready to expose ourselves to the "loving brothers", just yet---at least not 100 %.

I remember a few years ago, I ran into a JW who knew me, whom I hadn't seen since being DFd in 1983, and he asked me if I was associating again. I told him "no" that I was not a Jehovah's Witness anymore. Taken aback, he asked me what I was "into now", and I told him "Roman Catholic," and he looked at me with a look just as if he had run into an alien being...

Another example of WTS anthropology - The Flood and racial differences
by Pole inhere is another paradox resulting from the wts stand on the flood:
1. jws seriously believe in 2370 bc as the date of the flood
2. they also believe that by the 1st century ad racial differences had been well developed (i mean differences in the outward appearance of course, and not their early racist views for instance).

Personally, I believe in an extremely ancient universe and earth, and in Theistic evolution.

What's the Longest you ever stayed at one door?
by disciple inwe stayed at a door talking bad about the householder and they were listening for 5 minutes.
what's that scripture?
about a birdie and a king??

My longest was about 3 or 4 hours. We knocked at the door and this Little Person opened the door. He was Marion Wood, one of the Munchkins in the 1939 movie THE WIZARD OF OZ. Now, being tiny and quite old, he had breasts, so his gender never came up until the very end of the conversation, when my co-witness asked Marion, "So Marion, is it MISS Wood? Or MRS. Wood? And Marion replied, "Uh, it's mister." My companion and I both almost died of embarassment. I wanted to melt into the sidewalk, I was so embarassed. But during the entire conversation, we never touched on doctrine at all. Strange! Love, Jaypeeto

How do you feel about.....
by bagpuss ingoing back to a kingdom hall?.
recently i've had a couple of visits from jws while i was at work.
each time they left a message that the co was going to be visiting this week and that it would be good if i went to the meeting.. i was really surprised at the strong reaction i had to the thought of going to a meeting again.

I wouldn't set foot in a Kingdom Hall again if you promised me $25 Billion dollars AFTER taxes. I have no desire to be around that two-faced cult whatsoever. Best, Jaypeeto

Coming here for opinions on becoming a JW is like asking for good references on a person from an ex-spouse. Get it?!
........Trouble is, DoubtfullyYours, is that folks who go to the "official" Watchtower site will receive nothing but a sanitized history of the Watchtower and a blatantly erroneous discussion of some of Christendom's doctrines, most especially their outrageously slip-shod research on the development of the doctrine of the Trinity. I can't speak for the other Christians on this forum, but being a born-again Christian, I don't feel like anyone has been playing mind games on me. Best, Jaypeeto
