i have had this nickname online for over five years.
when i signed up at this discussion board i really was looking for fellow jw believers, looking for some new freinds.
what i found was something so much better.
I am not ashamed of who I am or my presence here at this site. If anyone I know comes here I would be shocked, and if they get far enough into the site to find me then we probably got some talking to do.

when i am posting .........cutting and pasting .....highlighting a persons text....i never see any option to highlight........no quotes thing appears like i have seen in the directions from different ones.
i do not see any place to post a picture.
no option to browse for one to even select to post one.
I am using Mozilla/Foxfire browser. Does that have something to do with it?
Yep, that's it. This forum works better using Internet Explorer. I usually use Mozilla also, but I can't when I'm here because it takes away half of your posting options. I would suggest using IE.
I believe the flames mean that something is a "hot topic" - many replies.

any who have been reading my recent posts, know that they chronicle my unsuccesful attempts to prevent my wife's baptism.. it is unfortunate and clear to me that there is nothing i can do untill i really understand the problem.
i am currently reading steven hassan's, releasing the bonds.
Furthermore I would like to hear from you so we can discuss strategies and ideas for freeing the people we love from this terrible scourge.
Hi CYP. I am not actively seeking to "free" my husband from the JWs, mainly because he spent 8 years disassociated and has already lost his loved ones once. Honestly, I don't think I could bear to see him go through that again - the first 8 years were difficult on both of us. Now that he has been reinstated (with my support, because I love him dearly) I will never ask or expect him to go through a second disassociation.
However, there were ground rules set long before his reinstatement. Such as: the children and I will not become JWs, I am responsible for dealing with blood transfusions if that ever comes up and he will respect any decision I make, the JWs do not own him (I do - hahaha j/k), etc. Luckily my husband is 110% in agreement with how I feel about the situation because as he says, "My obligation is not to an organization, it is solely to Jehovah and my family". He is a rare gem.
My situation is very different than yours. My husband was raised a JW, he left the organization, he's "been there, done that" with all of the rigamarole - and he went back "on his terms", as he says. AND if it ever comes down to it ... he is willing to disassociate again if they force his hand ("his terms", remember).
Your wife, on the otherhand, is experiencing something totally different, and probably has some serious (ignorance is bliss) blinders on. My husband lost his blinders a long, long time ago. You're in a difficult situation, and I sympathize. If you have any questions for me, I'd be happy to help however I can.

Yep that's another one on my list. What is this "listening in" crap anyway? "Ok friends, let's listen in and see what sister so-and-so has to say". You can only listen to a woman if you're "listening in"?? Bah!
There have been many occasions where I could have given far better talks than the brother up there. Heh.

Brothers and Sisters should be able to go to meetings dressed the way they want, as long as it's clean. That would be better, no?
Heck yeah, considering I've been fighting for months about women not being allowed to wear dress slacks. WTF is up with that?? None of their arguments held water with me, like, "Women can only wear slacks to meetings where culture dictates such, because for example it's very cold there". Hmmm ... let me see here ... NEGATIVE 10 isn't cold enough for ya?
Anyway, this stupid rule alone is enough to send me running for the hills. I'm not asking to wear a mini skirt and stillettos for cryin out loud - I'm asking to wear DRESS PANTS. Get over it!

I have never lived my life as a JW, yet I know wholeheartedly that God has blessed me 1000 times over in my life. How do you explain that, AFIN? Or my husband, who lived 8 years as an "Apostate" while he was DA - his life was never better than in those 8 years. He got a fantastic job, found "the woman of his dreams" (his words), married, has two beautiful children, amazing friends, and for ONCE in his life he was truly happy (unlike in his previous years as a JW, where he was miserable, depressed, suicidal, etc)!! How do you explain that, AFIN?
Are you so simple minded to think that there is only happiness within the organization? You are so wrong. But then again, you wouldn't know that, would you?
i know someone who is getting married and i am amazed how much money she spent.
she is a student and works part-time and if she's lucky makes $650 a month.
her fiance has a full time job but it goes for bills.
My husband and I paid for our wedding ourselves. We had a lovely wedding, and a beautiful reception (about 90 guests). Everyone raved that it was the best wedding/reception they'd been to - we specifically had no alcohol at our reception, but you'd never have known it. lol! At any rate, the wedding/reception cost us a grand total of $2,000. Heck my wedding dress only cost $99 - I'm not a frilly kind of person. Bottom line is we did not go into debt for our wedding (nor did our families have to). We've been very happily married for 6 years (together for 8) - and I forsee many, many more (forever would be nice!).
My JW sister-in-law on the otherhand - my inlaws paid for her wedding (at least $10,000 ... if not more) - and as it is she only got married (to a guy she barely knew) because she apparently got "wedding fever" watching me plan our wedding. That point was proven when her brother and I had been planning our wedding for 6 months - SIL met a guy, and they decided they would get married - 2 weeks before my wedding. ::grumble:: Oh, did I mention her JW husband has been cheating on her for the last 3 years of their marriage, is an abusive @sshole, and just disassociated himself and filed for divorce? Heh. The sad thing is ... everyone told her not to marry him, her parents even offered to call off the wedding - but no, she was 19 and she knew better than everyone else. ::shaking head::
And just to throw more JW crap into the mix - he admitted to infidelity a few years back, and she forgave him. Now everyone knows he's up to his old tricks again, but he refuses to admit it knowing that she can't get a scriptural divorce out of it if he doesn't. A man can physically and emotionally abuse his wife for 6 years, and she can't scripturally divorce him. He can admittedly have phone sex and be @ss deep in pornography, and she can't scripturally divorce him. AND he can committ adultery to his heart's content, but if she can't prove it - she can't scripturally divorce him. If it were me, I'd be telling them where to stick their scriptural divorce.
well, it appears that i?m in a bit of a quandary and would appreciate any advice anyone could give.
two days ago i announced that spring had finally arrived to some fellow new yorkers.
they tried to convince me that on the north east coast, spring is never certain until summer is here, nonetheless i was adamant that, ?spring had indeed arrived?, and took on full responsibility for such a (now obvious) brash statement.. .
The following day (yesterday) we had a drop in temperature of 25 degrees with accompanying snow, and gusts of upto 50mph with a wind chill factor of 0f.
Ah so I have you to thank for the fact that it is currently 18 degrees and we have a winter weather advisory in effect until tomorrow morning?
