I guess the memo of night clubs being prohibited skipped the congregations around my area. A lot of young people could be seen at many clubs Friday and Saturday nights.

Engagement parties...is this becoming more prevalent?
by marmot ini don't know if this is a witness thing or if it's just becoming more common everywhere, but what's the deal with engagement parties?
it seemed like all the young couples getting engaged were throwing these elaborate bashes that seemed just like a real wedding, and my former roommate even had a freaking gift registry for his.
totally crass, in my opinion, and they never even ended up getting married.

Do you find the Jan 15-08 WT disturbing?

Auldsoul, I was raised in the Witness since I was 3 years old. My mother is still in it. I wasn't invested? I don't know how you know about me and how I was raised. You have no idea what your talking about. I was a ministerial servant, I was serving as the accounting person for our kingdom hall and even for some assemblies. I would give public talks in our congregation and I would visit other congregations to give the public talk. I just decided to one day get up and stop going, got tired of it. Nobody from my family stopped talking to me, noone of my old jw friends stopped talking to me. So that's the only difference from most here, almost everyone here has to deal with being shunned by family or friends I didn't. What I don't get on a lot of posts is the attitude that once you stop going everyone is against you. Most here are obssesed with the JWs even while they are out. For example this thread, I find it unbelievable that some still read the publications they despise so much. I am busy with work and studying that I just can't find time to read dumb publications. That's the same reason why I don't care about my family still in, they are in because they decided that's what they want to do. Why am I going to try and bend their wishes? My mother and family still in are perfectly happy with their choice, just like I'm happy with mine.

Most Witnesses Don't Know the "Current Truth" on Matthew 5:5!

if you ask most witnesses what this verse means, they will say that it means those who are meek/mild/humble will be given the earth as a reward to live forever on.
i was surprised to find out that this is not the official watchtower teaching of that verse.

Auldsoul, For your information I did cut ties and still have family in. My mother is still in and so are other family members. I didn't read any of the publications to begin with and wouldn't waste my time reading it just because a family member is in. To me it seems to make matters worse and a complete waste of time.

so many nut cases are JW's
by fresia ini have seen so many jw's that are fruit loops, i'm not meaning clinical depression or mental illness, many are just balmy, they seem to be off tap.
i would estimate that 1 in 4 are off their head.
disruptive behaviour and trouble makers, gossipers and out right rude, so many seem to have problems out of the normal, many i find are backward, maybe that is the one way street of indoctinization.. what experiences have any had..

Wow! Some of your comments are really amazing. What does 2 old people coming to Danny's door have to do with the so called abuse that Danny has suffered many years ago? Were they the ones who commited this abuse? No, they had nothing to do with it. And a jury will see Danny's action as that of a lunatic person bent on revenge. But instead of being a man, he went after 2 old people who were not threatening him in any way. I fail to see the point that he has suffered so much that his actions are excusable. Danny is a person hell bent on revenge and its an obssesion. I fail to see what good that attitude does to anyone. If anything Danny should go after his parents, I mean they were the ones who forced him to be in the cult. Why don't you go spray your parents Danny, for forcing you and raising you in a cult?
