Us using only 10% of our brain is not something that the WTS just invented. This is actually what was believed from certain scientific studies before. It wasn't until recently that an new study came out stating myths and this one was included, among others.

1975 Letdown increasingly becoming topic of conversations among witnesses
by Meeting Junkie No More ini have noticed that more and more, witnesses seem to be discussing the 1975 debacle amongst themselves, and agreeing that it is amazing that witnesses as a whole are all still here and the world is still here, and their kids are now in high school, or married, or whatever.
they also seem to be discussing the importance of retirement plans, in direct contradiction to what cos and dos are spouting at the annual conventions.... the last time this happened was at a recent funeral, where another long-time witness had passed on.
the interesting thing was that a younger group were discussing this, and some of them weren't even around in '75!.

I disagree that 1975 is a topic of conversations among todays witnesses. I don't know about everybody else, but the one's I have dealings with never mention 1975, to them this is something brought up by the 'apostates'. I would have to say its the other way around, the only ones who are hell bent on that date are ex-jw's and always bring it up. I brought it up a couple of times to friends and elders and they didn't even know what I was talking about, according to them the WTS never said the end was coming, it was individuals who took words and applied their own meaning to them.

with all the information out there, available for all to see; exposing the lies,hypocrisy, and outright ridiculousness (is that a word?..if not it should be) of this whole witness religion, how in the world are people still buying into this?.
is it because i don't have jehovah's spirit anymore?

If it was easy you would see everyone here getting their family members or friends out of it, therefore no need to fade or still attend the meetings. But that is not the case.

I Am Legend JW email
by Descender inso my sister-in-law, who is a pretty hardcore jw, showed me an email that looked like it had been passed around quite a bit, so i figured someone on here had probably seen it.
supposedley it's a picture from the movie "i am legend" where will smith is walking through new york and all the buildings in the background are in ruins except for the bethel building, which stands out, undamaged and clean.
i watched the movie and don't remember seeing anything like that so i just figured that some jw photoshopped it and sent it out to the jw community to show that the bethel building is protected by god even in a post apocaliptical world run over with zombie vampires.

Taking the kids to watch fireworks forbidden
by freedomfighter inwe had our meeting on the last day of the year 2006. the previous 5 yrs we had gone to the 9pm fireworks display in our local area with other witness familys.
this was so our children could enjoy the display and the family atmosphere.
( they also had rides and a concert for the kids).. well, back to the meeting.

Why do people keep listening to old men? Here's a solution, if your conscience allows you then do it! When asked why are you doing this I would always say, well I thought this was a conscience matter and my conscience allows me to do it. Nothing simpler than that.

Filters will not work. They usually end up filtering something that doesn't need filtering. That's just how the software is designed. And as far as viruses, this filter would not stop that so we might need the government to also provide virus software and keep it updated to every household.

Balanced approach? The reason to disagree with this is not because we don't want to protect our children. Its because we don't want government taking away our rights. It really comes down to the parents to monitor their kids in the internet. What's next, is the government going to monitor everything in our lives to filter what they consider wrong?
