i know many have rejected the idea of organized religion.
i teeter on that myself.
but i have toyed with hooking to a little country church with some friendly people to associate with.
I have gone to RC Mass from time to time and even joined the rolls and was married by a priest, although I don't consider myself to be RC.

There is no physical humanism "church" I attend or rules I have to follow.

Hey, I met an Elder(tm) in a Salvation Army Thrift Store a few weeks back, buying books. He is supporting another Christian organization!
My JW mother shops ONLY at Salvation Army (a.k.a. Sally's, which she calls it to soften the Christendom connection) for her clothes. She even gets bras and shoes there. Apparently she likes someone else's footprint being worn into her shoes. Ewwww. She can well afford to shop in regular stores, too...a quirk of hers.
I have asked her many times how she can do this and remain in good standing with the dubs. She claims Sally's does not make a "profit" on the clothing, so it's ok. She is against donating to them (even donating clothes, which she claims would be sold at "no profit"--contradiction). I have proved to her in the past that they do make a "profit" on the clothes; she says nothing but still does it.
I often wonder if I should turn her in and get her DFd so she'll wake up, but I just can't bring myself to put an old(er) woman under that much stress, even though she's done terrible things to me and deserves it.....and the outcome (waking up) is a worthy one.

after a short discussion regarding the cross vs. stake theory with my grandmother i decided to refresh my memory of the wts doctrine regarding this and it's supporting arguments.
i was surprised to find that they only used one supporting reference to their claim.
it's a quote by john denham parsons written in 1896 (interesting that it took over 30 years for god to mention this to his mouthpiece).
I attended a lecture by a RC physician once, and he presented evidence that people in Jesus' time were executed on both crosses and stakes. (Can't recall any of it off the top of my head.) He said the cross method was much more painful, so the Romans probably used a cross on him.
Of course, no one can prove Christ was a real person, let alone how he died. For Christians it seems to me that it matters little what he died on, just that he died for them. I don't understand why it would be such a problem to use a cross in worship, even if it wasn't the instrument of Christ's death.
i have four kids - ages 18, 13, 10 and 6. .
first some clarification: i have been in the "truth" for 35 years, and although i have never been particularly active in the ministry .
for example: my 18 year old son really wants his ear pierced.
Nellie, you could try saying what my mother told me when she became JW: "Mommy didn't know all those things were wrong, and now she does, so we're not going to do them any more." Just substitute: "Mommy didn't know all those things were weren't wrong, and now she does, so we're not going to do them any more now."
OK, I'm kidding (a little), but there is a valid point in here: It's ok to tell your kids you made a mistake. They will respect you for admitting it and righting the wrong (an important thing for an adult to be able to do). They will also recognize that the JW beliefs are definitely not of divine origin and will be less likely to cling/return to them in the future.

speaking as someone who believed it all right up until about a year after i was df'd i just cannot understand the reasoning of people who don't go out on field service, don't go to meetings, don't participate or believe and still stay in the organisation.. i know that it is hard to leave, it's made to be hard, but some of the postings on this site make me think that it must be harder still living a lie and keeping up the pretense.. if you don't believe, why would you want to conform to all the petty rules and subject yourself to men that you don't believe have any authority.. i really do hope that as soon as possible you can all take a deep breath and finally be true to yourself.. zaphod

Lehaa, I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed and had no pain, no swelling. It can happen. I hope you have the same experience!
