Blondie is right. Some areas have revised their statutes of limitations on clergy abuse. That is a worthy pursuit and expenditure of our time.

lawrences attorney, warren gotcher, of mcalester, succeeded in his arguments to have the case dismissed based on an expiration of a statute of limitations.

many, after leaving or being cast out of 'the society,' have felt so strongly so as to write a book.
some well thought out and good reading.. my questions are the following:.
if you were to write such a book what title would you give it ?.
i find it odd that the district overseer today made.
1. zero yes 0 references to the fds in any of his talks.. 2.he also told elders that the brothers worship god and not them.so therefore the elders have no authority to order the friends around.. 3. he also talked about the stanford prison study and said that people who receive authority over others often abuse it.
4. he mentioned that when he disagrees with the branch (aka the fds) he's learned to just do what they say.
Ask him if he is "a friend of Simon's"! :)
What an awesome idea to have a way to covertly identify oneself as an ally of those questioning. I'm serious.
the writer of this article commends the work jw's have been doing on suicide prevention.
obviously he has not seen the secret elders tapes.. .

puke
i just finished reading this and enjoyed it.
however, if i was newly awakening or on the verge of awakening, i dont think this book would have helped me a great deal.
brother schnell has some good thoughts, however, he is short on detail and description, and even shorter on proof and documentation.. it is interesting reading about the transition of the bible students from a small group of independent noncomformists into an organization characterized by total conformity.
That was the first ex-jw thing I ever read. I believe I read that even before coming to ex-jw forums. I was long out of the borg but still emotionally hurting deeply from it at that time. I'd had essentially no exposure to ex-jws and no knowledge of the scandals. I was no longer afraid of 'apostates' (by then I was already labeled one myself).
I don't remember much of what was in the book, except the stories seemed too outlandish for me to believe at the time. I didn't think it all could be true. I thought the title was for shock value and decreased the author's credibility in my eyes. The end of it preaching xianity left me with a sour note, not for the author (to each, his own), but because that's not my thing.
It would be interesting to take a look at it now that I'm fully awakened.

also very interesting is a ted talk by an australian scientist who crochets and started an international project knitting coral reefs..
I"m one of those who have a hard time with people saying nice things about me.
I totally take it back.
In fact, I accidentally posted that compliment on this thread. I meant to post it on the thread entitled, "The unremarkable symbiosis between scrapbooking and marine biology".
just got back from a recent sad.. after most talks, the applause was, at most, tepid.. it was striking in its tepidity, if that is possible (and if that is a word).. affter most talks, applause lasted literally no more than 5 seconds.
its volume was scarcely above a whisper.. it wasn't acoustics - the bethel speaker was technically a polished speaker (although presenting the same old boring info), and his talks generated noticeably louder applause.
but even still - that applause was maybe 10 seconds, and about normal-conversation level.. but local speakers - the applause was not much more loud than the hum coming from your refrigerator.. there were 1300+ people there.. it was just so weird - my previous large-group experience was at the agm, where people were nearly apoplectic & drooling with delight over their new "silver bibles" (which very few have read, i'd wager).. these guys were just "zombified".. speaking of bibles - bethel dude called it a "platinum bible".
Thats Like Serving Dinner Knowing..
................ Nobody`s Coming..
And now, brothers, let us all stand and sing Son 292, "Eleanor Rigby".
to all congregations in the united states branch territory re: branch visit in november 2014 .
dear brothers: .
on february 11, 2014, the bethel family was excited to learn that a branch visit is sched- uled for the united states.
Gotta hand it to them for the marketing techniques. Selling the same slice of day-old bread to the same people every day, and making them excited about it, requires a lot of skill.

I've seen baptism talks at assemblies with nobody getting baptised in a circuit of about 1000 or so. Talk about an awkward talk.
You must be joking. They wouldn't really give the talk with no candidates, would they? Oh, wait, we're talking about the creators of Sparlock. nvrmind
It's just...why...

Then the poor guy had to stand up all alone and shout out his answers to the "2 questions".
For some reason, I am finding that totally hilarious.
