About a year before I left the borg, me and 2 sistas wanted to get an apartment together. One of them had an Elder for a dad........he went on an all-out rampage to prevent us from even discussing getting an apartment. He forbid us even discussing it! He said we would get reproved if we continued to discuss it because it was stumbling the younger kids (ummm...we didn't even talk about it in front of the younger kids).

Around the same time, a group of bros got an apartment together, and there was hell to pay.

during talks, the audience just don't think.

the speaker can shoot off some stat, a comment, but "where is the evidence for what you just said?".

the speaker can give a really great story about how a drug addict became a jw, how it saved his life, but do they think: "yes, that is one neg example in the world, but what about the positive examples?

In fact I used to hear people say, "have you noticed an increase in the carrian(sp?) birds lately?? Armeggedon must be close.

Giggle. I thought I was the only one who was taught that? I remember a popular sista saying that all the time. It's as if they go around pointing at any existent or nonexistent event and claiming it is a sign of the times, like reading tea leaves.

You know, 3 people cut me off in traffic this a.m....must be Armageddon's close!

What is the bible for?

i was just wondering the other day about the bible, in a different manner than i usually would (inspired by god).. it is like if i were a atheist, or something........ so what is the bibile?.

is it a rule book, that we must follow?

a guide we reference to enrich our lives?

IMO....and I stress any theories about the bible are opinions, not facts...the Bible is a wonderful and mysterious work of literature that has been abused and misinterpreted throughout time. I believe there are always evil humans who will use whatever tool they can to oppress and control the masses. If we didn't have the Bible, it would have been something else.

Living Church of God & the Watchtower

i?m sure most of you have seen some coverage about the murder/suicide by a member of the evangelical church called the living church of god.

the church was founded in the mid-1990?s when it split from herbert w. armstrong?s worldwide church of god.

the living church observes the sabbath on saturday along with other old testament rituals.

You are right, it is a wonder this hasn't happened at a KH...otoh, it probably has and we just don't know about.

The closest thing I know about is a JW father from my old cong killed his 2 kids, wife, and himself in a murder-suicide. We were told he was angry about something and not to ask any more questions.

what's the point i ask you?

here in the uk, it's an unavoidable fact that the majority of people are out at work, shopping etc.

if you really wanted to speak to people, and felt an urgent duty because the 'end is near' why aren't the jws in the shopping centres, streets, and generally where the people are?.

I've always wondered the same thing....why weekdays when everyone is at work? Why not have the meetings in the day and the preaching in the evening?

I suspect it's because they're hoping to reach elderly/SAHMs/infirm people who would be at home on a weekday and who [they hope] would be ~~vulnerable~~ lonely/bored/sad.

Jehovah's Witness Oddities

i now enjoy telling people about the things jehovah's witnesses can and cannot do.

for instance, witnesses can work in a store that sells lottery tickets and tobacco but they can't own the store themselves.....whole blood is forbidden to be transfused yet blood fractions are acceptable.

donating blood in any form is wrong but accepting blood fractions is a conscience matter.........can you think of other jw oddities????

Ick. That is one of the most disgusting JW teachings. I've seen Elders apply this rule to recent rape victims, demanding the victim continue to have sex with her husband. It reallly burns me to even think about it.
