  Need Article on No Contributions to Non-JW Charities "Spiritual Food"

  i am getting into it with a jw about this, who is claiming that wts encourages and allows jws to do charity work and give donations to non-jw charities.

  i know i've seen the opposite in print in wts literature, but i can't find it right now.

  google and searching this forum--haven't turned up anything.

  I am getting into it with a JW about this, who is claiming that WTS encourages and allows JWs to do charity work and give donations to non-JW charities. I know I've seen the opposite in print in WTS literature, but I can't find it right now. Google and searching this forum--haven't turned up anything. The only thing I can find is stuff specific to the YMCA.

  i think i've finally left the jw's.

  i have not been an active member since 2000, but always thought i would go back.

  the problem (or solution) has been that i started to reason on how the true god or super being really viewed mankind.

  I think I've finally left the JW's. I have not been an active member since 2000, but always thought I would go back.

  I think a lot of JWs tell themselves and others, ?maybe I?ll be back?. It reminds me of when you break up with someone you cared about?.you say, ?maybe we?ll get back together, I just need some time for myself?? That is a way to ease the transition to the person you?re leaving and to yourself. Making a sudden, final break is more difficult to accept.

  Memorial question

  so thursday is the prom memorial.

  now a jw is telling me that the regular thursday meeting is rescheduled for friday.

  how bizarre.

  So Thursday is the Prom Memorial. Now a JW is telling me that the regular Thursday meeting is rescheduled for Friday. How bizarre. Why can't they skip one meeting while they have their annual communion Memorial? That's like the RCs rescheduling Sunday Mass because Christmas falled on a Sunday. Not normal.

  For the women: Clothes shopping right before the memorial

  i have noticed now and in the past that most, if not all sisters, go clothes shopping right before the memorial.

  they make it out to be this huge deal.

  almost to the point where if they do not get that new dress from nordstroms, they won't be able to be seen at the memorial.

  It's an opportunity to buy new clothes.

  Also, I believe there is a human need (for many) to observe rituals and holidays. Making a big whoop out of the Memorial, assemblies, weddings, and anniversaries is a way to fill that natural human desire to observe a holiday and the passing of time/rites of passage. Since they have so few opportunities to observe holidays, and 2 of the big ones are somber (Memorial and assemblies), I believe they are compensating by trying to make a bigger deal of them than they really are.

  This is why I don't think holidays are bad. Even if their origins are something individuals may feel are objectionable, the way they are celebrated today by those individuals is all that matters.

  I saw it on the other forum and will post my response here too....this case is a great opportunity to bring WTS corruption to the public eye...too great to pass up!

  Can this be sent to the Canadian and US media somehow? (I have no idea how that works.)

  Bryan, there weren't any newspaper articles that I know of.

  Anyone know if there was a follow up story in any of the local news? I'm nowhere near texas. I'm keeping my eye on the news via Google, but I still can't find anything.

  Disparaging Terms

  "apostate" is the most hateful, disparaging term in watchtower vocabulary.. yet, on page 15 of the dec.1st, 1984 watchtower they say,"it would be unscriptural for us ( wbts ) to use disparaging terms when referring to ones who do not share our belief.".

  talk about hypocrisy!

  when anyone calls you an apostate, point them to this wt.and watch their reaction.. blueblades

  Thanks for posting that. I'll be using it often.

  My current response is a good one too...ask them what their scriptural based authority is for having the ability to judge others--to determine if someone is an apostate or not, when the Bible says only God can judge.

  The activist preacher also said that it was unfair that the jury has no black members.

  Blahbety, blah, blah, blah. I am so sick of people saying that. He would have complained to his attorneys if he wanted a different composition in his jury. He is one of the richest men in the world and is more than able to hire competent legal representation who would follow his requests as well.

  Besides, I think he considers himself white now.
