Silent Lambs campaign
by kittyeatzjdubs inhey!
is anyone participating in the silent lambs campaign where they're sticking the flyers in the doors of kingdom halls?
i'm seriously thinking about it, but i'm going for the gusto!

Personally, no, I'm not going to participate because I get the creeps even driving near a KH. Plus I think it would have so little impact on the people I know locally, it wouldn't be worth the gas $ to drive there. Not enough bang for my buck.
I don't entirely discount the value of such actions, though. Activism sometimes is effective when it throws people off balance. Effecting a major social change (such as changing the JW practices re child abuse) often occurs when a variety of techniques are utilized, not just one.

"Fight fire with water." I like that one. I'll have to remember that!

The founding fathers of this country were the same or even worse. Does that mean that we should not honour the constitution?
To add to what Tony T said, the JWs have always claimed to be God's one and only true organization, being led spiritually and doctrinally directly by God.
The logic that past mistakes do not prove we should not follow a group or teaching is valid. However, I don't think anyone in this thread was using that logic to say this is proof all the doctrinal teachings of the WTS are invalid because they used to be racist (maybe I'm wrong). I think they were trying to point out that this past teaching is proof they were never led by an all-good, infallible God.
Maybe the writers of the Constitution thought they were led by God, too, I don't know. But then again, I am willing to adhere to the principles in the Constitution because they are moral and just (determined by use of my independent critical thinking and facts) rather than blind, unthinking acceptance.

Kill the Kid, Now That's Justice! (WT 5/15/05 QFR)
by ezekiel3 inthis in it's entirety from the watchtower may 15, 2005, page 31. you might find the reasoning a bit hollow.
questions from readers.

will someone please tell me why are you taking it out on the jw..for what is in all bibles
I think I can answer that question, at least from my own viewpoint. Why is this a JW problem?
1. Because they accept what is said in this scripture and teach it is true.
2. Because they teach that God was more just than what the human judges would have in store for David (obviously not true).
3. Because they chose to accept the Bible created by the Catholic church at the Council of Trent rather than at least trying to check if there were additional holy books that may shed some light on the confusing aspects of the Catholic bible, such as this topic.
4. Because they prohibit independent thinking which would allow anyone who believes in the Christian God to come to the reasonable conclusion that either all the Bible is not present in our modern version of it, or some of it is not inspired by an infallible God.
While this problem may arise in other religions too, that doesn't make the JWs innocent or right.

is religon-bashing ok, and if yes, when?
by googlemagoogle intoday i read "doubtfully your's" comment on wiccans and i was shocked.
i wanted to reply immediately about tolerance and to respect another religion.
then i thought about him having a sister, smoking pot and presenting herself as pagan giving him some bad impression (prejudice?

Debate= Good
Bashing= Bad
I'm totally in agreement with that. To add:
debate (good) = utilizing critical thinking and proven facts to evaluate a religion, and perhaps arriving at a negative conclusion about it based upon that process
bashing (bad) = reacting negatively to a religion based upon assumptions, false teachings, prejudice, and emotions (example: negative feelings about religions arise from a combination of negative experiences with JWs and anti-religious tolerance learned when being a JW...this creates a skewed "filter" through which an ex-JW views other religions as destructive, evil, secretive, something to be feared, threatening, etc...all information about other religions is filtered so that positive/neutral information is rejected and negative information is accepted and exaggerated...)

Does anyone know a good exit counselor in the Chicago area?
by Check_Your_Premises indoes anyone have any experience using exit counselors?

I will have to account for my time though. It will be hard to say I am going out for milk and come back two days later.
Instead of accounting for your time, why not count your time instead? Say you're going on a preaching mission.

Homosexuality and how should a JW or 'Study' view it?
by AnitainFlorida ini am sure the subject is not very descriptive and for this i appologize.. i would like some assistnace in biblical references that say how homosexuality should be viewed and how one should deal with another that is homosexual or that has homosexual friends even if they non study's daughter says she and this other girl aren't 'doing anything'.
i know this is long winded, so i will just now finally get to the point.. i am a grandmother that has recently taken back up studying after a 1-2 year pause.
when i had first started studying, my daughter was also studying and we had our study togeather as i was staying with she and her husband because she had medical trouble and could not care for their 3 children when he was gone to work.

Sure a person can be a JW and have a homosexual "orientation" without acting upon it. But then that person would be guilty of having lust in his/her heart, unlawful desires, etc. and not tattling on his/herself to the Elders. IOW, having the desire is still against JW rules.
