Only Jehovah's people
by rebel8 intoday i went to a large talk.. there was no arguing or swearing, just kindness and respect.. it was orderly and calm.. trash was put in the proper place.
people were even picking up litter that wasn't even theirs.. the speakers were passionate and inspiring.. the entire event was orchestrated by volunteers.. it was march for science, not a dub ass-embly.
so much for "only jehoopla's people" behaving like this at large events..

after sitting down, the witnesses were told to look at the sun, and soldiers watched their eyes to make sure they were staring at the blazing sun.

Of course, the source is a liar, so we need to take it with a grain of salt.

JW's And Their Education Level
by Yesu Kristo Bwana Wangu ini was thinking about this.... in my congregation, i was literally the only one with universitary education, out of a cong from around 110 people.... and we're very close to a very big university, which makes it even weirder.. on the other hand... sooo many here with their own business, mostly small cleaning businesses.
cleaning windows, or cleaning somewhere else... painters.... all have jobs that do not require any education level, cos they never had a decent education.. how is the composition of the jw people/congs that you know about?.
how many painters... cleaners... compared to people with jobs that require higher education?.

I was from a big college town and jws were among the least educated groups.
Ass-embly programs always included lots of drumming on the anti-education message. There were lots of talks about how great it is to start your own business. All you need is a squeegee--just walk around the mall asking the store owners to pay you $8 to clean their windows each week and jehoopla will manipulate the store owners' hearts to say yes. He always provides for you as long as you don't do something bad like get a full-time job, go to college or get a 2-door car.
Or if you're a chick, you need a vacuum cleaner and bucket. Put an ad in the Pennysaver offering to clean somebody's house for 2 hours per week for $25.

Are there 'ultra strict' congregations?
by jambon1 inwhen i studied as a young adult, it was in one of those congregations.
having viewed the religion as a quaint little band of christians it conpletely dumbfounded me when i was told about such rules as 1 - no beards.
2 - you must wear a suit to meetings and while giving a talk.

Just when you think such an obscure rule didn't exist, blondie posts a published article about it!

Good, I am glad they are sticking to their old school cult ways--otherwise, people become indifferent to its danger.
Back when I was in, they did that all the time and the marked person almost always permanently left.

Is there any evidence that banning a religion has a negative or positive affect on its growth?

Joyce Meyer, yep, that's who I had in mind. She rants on about first world, "worried well" problems, and the faux humility that I hated in xianity:
Let me tell everyone, in great detail, how HORRIBLE a minor personality flaw of mine is so I can LOOK humble and spiritual. Meanwhile, I can keep my serious issues to myself and they are perfectly justified by my religion.
People in the first world, too, suffer. Let's not let God off the hook for allowing the suffering while pretending it's our reaction to it that's the problem. Talk about blaming the victim.
Sorry but Joyce Meyer is a major pet peeve of mine.

ewwww....if it's who I'm thinking of. She is arrogant.
And wrong.
5. SUFFERING
Yes, suffering itself prevents us becoming fulfilled in life, not just fear of suffering or worry about it.
You can get proof of this by asking a starving child who is living in a war zone. It is not the fear of her house getting blown up. It is not the fear of not having enough to eat. It's the actual experience of having her house blown up, being homeless, being injured, having her innocent parents killed in a completely senseless act of violence, and the discomfort of starving that is causing her to be unfulfilled.
