Shunning - what do they think they are accomplishing?

a jw cousin of mine called my jw wife today and asked if i saw my new nephew from my jw sister.

my wife said "no, his family would never allow him to see the baby!

" (i'm da'd).

That's awful, Lisavegas - well the first part. Had similar happen myself. LOVE? Love indeed (I was going to swear then, but thought better of it) - and when the Grandchildren grow and want to know about the absent grandparents - <sigh>

If I had someone I loved who was terminally ill, I would want to spend as much time with them that I could, for BOTH our sakes - as everyone else would still be there afterwards. As I understand it, the JWs believe that it isn't worth spending the last remaining years (of this system) with their loved ones (without conscience, they can dismiss a df'ed relitive or even an innocent child) - they choose instead sucking up to people they're already going to spend eternity with.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses keep records on people?

i have known some people (i dont' know if it's true or not) [and i am the kind of person that doesn't like to cause trouble] who have said that jehovah's witnesses keep tabs/records on people.

all the things they have done like if they got babtized, personal problems/experiences, arguments they may had with people, and just their general conduct as well.

have any people here found out about a "black book" where they keep records on you?

Lol - that's AMAZING - so am I to believe that the amount of orgasms experienced during an illicit affair has any bearing on the outcome of the Elders' decision about Disfellowshipping? - ''How many?? - only ONE? why are you wasting OUR time when we could be disfellowshipping someone who had MULTIPLE orgasms in the MISSIONARY position?''

Having an affair acceptable in your religion?

this woman, clarise, who lives in hayward, california is a strong beliver of jehovahs witness.

because she needs to go door to door to spread words of your religion, she only works 3 days a week.

that is fine.

Yep Sunspot - loads of grovelling to a bunch of blokes who need their ''status'' reinforcing. (Reminds me that film ''Merlin'')

And I think you've got it there Fleur - all about control. And fear.How scary is it to believe that you are going to die very soon, and in the meantime you will be shunned by, not only people that PROFESSED to love you (conditionally), but by people who are supposed to love you UNCONDITIONALLY. And who was it that said Catholicism kept its Congregation through Fear?.....hang on, I'll think of it in a minute......

were you more 'materialistic' when you were a witness???

it was my experience when a jw that many focussed their lives around...having good holidays...having nice cars (some with private plates)...having perfect houses etc etc.

it all seemed very materialistic to me.

totally the opposite to what was being preached from the platform.

Good point. Strange that JWs tend to go into poorly paid, part time work (as many have pointed out on here), as there is no point in a ''future'' in this ''System'' - by the same token, I always wondered why those who had piles of cash didn't just share it amongst the Society where it could do the most good - after all, the END is at hand.

it will probably be held on saturday, july 9, commencing around 2pm.. venue, my home in sunny weston super mare!

home of the second highest tide in the world!.

the date isn't set in stone yet (weddings & stuff), but it's looking likely.

How long have they been keeping records for?

Lol - don't know which thread to respond to. I was unaware that records were kept for so long - after all, if someone commits a CRIME (unless it is very serious), it is ''spent'' after 5 years.

I agree with other comments I have read - that Elders (because they have no REAL authority), like to create some for themselves - making them feel powerful - and even if just ONE member of the Congregation is in awe of them, it reinforces their Authority and position.
