Luke 21 v 8 - ring a bell?
by TheEdge in.
''he said:''look out that you are not misled; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, 'i am he,' and, 'the due time has approached.
' do not go after them.. i wonder who these false prohets are who could be constantly saying, ''the due time has approached'?

Is This An Urban Legend?
by TheEdge ini remember, many years ago possibly at an assembly, hearing the story about a baptism (may have been a family being baptised).
upon being baptised, all members of the family cried both tears of joy (for the newly baptised's being anointed by god's spirit at that moment) and of sorrow (as they would never have everlasting life together in an earthly paradise).. is it urban legend?
did anyone else hear this?

In my haste to recount the story, I didn't make it clear that only ONE member of the family was Anointed <sigh> and this would mean them separated for all eternity...
.....Bethel Minute, I understood that Anointed were still being selected AFTER 1935 to replace 'fallen' ones....I have a lot to learn.

Are Those Of Us That Do Not Preach or Attend Meetings Still JWs???
by minimus inwhat's your opinion??

Now you mention it Gill, that's another thing that bugs me - the way the JW always criticise the Catholic and C of E Churches for ''Christening'' (Baptising) infants - the JW wait until they're out of nappies first!

Elder said I could Lie
by Es inlast week my ex husband sent a letter to the elders telling each and every one of them just what he felt about them.
as they were d/f him he figured this was his last chance.
in his letter he stated that as i had scriptural reason for divoce, so did he.

I suppose it depends on the tone
Yep - I suppose I just thought that (naively maybe) the elder would take her word, as he cannot prove otherwise - therefore truth or lie would have to be accepted the same way.

Notice to all JW's - You must now call the Yorkshire Ripper your 'Brother'!

...have just watched a DVD - and the Yorkshire Ripper's SECOND line of defence was that when he worked as a gravedigger, he heard the voice of God telling him to go and kill prostitutes. So, this (becomming a JW) isn't his FIRST experience of wanting to please/follow God

DAing greedy persons
by Gill inso, with the' new disassociating light' wil they have to da all of their overweight witnesses in line with the scriptures:.
'quit mixing with anyone who is a fornicator....greedy person...'?.
surely by their actions of overeating, and greedy persons not inheriting the kingdom, they would be 'showing by their actions' that they are not a jehovah's witness?.

I totally agree on this Gill - I have, many years ago, questioned this and never received a satisfactory answer. Like you, I don't have a problem with anyone's right to live the way they want to, but I DO have a problem with people choosing to interpret Scriptures to suit. Especially when THOSE people interpret ambiguous Scriptues to suit themselves, yet ignore the Black and White ones.
The Western World is generally guilty of overeating, and we KNOW it - just as certain JW KNOW they are too. Smoking, I feel, was an ambiguous / conscience decision, and as I remember, when The Society decided to ''ban'' it, smokers were given 6 months to quit. I wonder how many would leave if they were given 6 months to alter their gluttonous lifestyles ?

Minimus - I've asked this in response on 2 other threads - are ''Inactive Publishers'' still counted in the overall number published by the Society? If so, are WE boosting THEIR numbers.
