--as I think back, my 12 yr old son mentioned around 1992-3 about all the free hoagies, burritos, chips at the summer conventions- I knew that would never last- JWs are C-H-E-A-P and no way would contributions from publishers cover the cost of the food.

Why did the organization stop providing food during conventions?
by redvip2000 ini'm sure many of us still remember these times when the organization used to sell food at conventions.. i also remember that when this was stopped, the official reason was that the "brothers" were missing some of the program because of all the preparations.
typical watchtower "pretend we care" excuse.. i've wondered if there is another reason behind it, tied to perhaps finances or logistics that was the real deciding factor.
history and typical "modus operandi" of the society tells me that if there was some money to be made that way, they would not have stopped.. wonder if anybody has more info on this..

From laundry mat to laundry mat
by donny inabout three years ago, i was walking past a local laundry mat and i noticed some of the society s publications laying on the chairs by the window.
so i walked inside and found an awake from 1995 and a watchtower from 1989. the latter one was funny to me because i was still in the organization when it was released.
i couldnt help but be shocked at how old these magazines were.

Terry, phone booths are gone, but there is a good alternative available for old WT magazines-- and you can place 20+ magazines at one time!

In 1936 the first Washateria opened in Texas-
it wasn't long before JWs decided this was a good place to preach the good news of the new system, where your clothes will never wear out or need washing at the creek bank on a flat rock-

Sikh Temples serve food for free, and so do Buddahists and Hindus,
I wonder if there is a smartphone app-- free food finder, to help locate the nearest temple for travelers-

Now that you have had a taste of worldly freedom, Steve, I hope you continue your trek towards total freedom from all things , Watchtower. I think this best of link will help your girfriend better understand what can happen, if you are in a relationship with someone who still has a foot inside the KH door. Are you planning on skipping the Memorial this month? Good luck.

Easter is a big church day for Catholics- is your girlfriend a religious or nominal Catholic?

For those still "in"... is it just me?
by leaving_quietly ini'm still "in" and i've noticed an odd trend recently.
conversations with jws seem to be more jw-ish than ever!
in normal conversation, i'll hear: "these watchtowers are just wonderful!

"These Watchtowers are just wonderful! Wonderful gifts from God!"
Those blockhead JWs sure love their "meat in die season" from the faithful slave and they can't wait for the latest WT study-

Steve, have your girlfriend sign up here, too. She can learn a lot about JWs and how to help you find a way to get out from under the thumb of the elders at the KH.

Dteve, Steve, have you told your Filipina girlfriend you are a Jehovah's Witness? - maybe an inactive, JW, but still a JW.

Welcome.
Marrying a foreign born lady from the PI will present new problems. I have heard that after the wedding to a Filipina you will discover you have 100 needy relatives overseas who will pressure you to help support her family- not helping out will result in loss of honor. Before you marry a Catholic, look into converting to Catholicism for the sake of a unified home. If you can't do that, then you could be setting yourself up for future grief. The first step I advise is to write a letter to officially quit the WT religion.
