Seems like I remmeber the NT says something about the time you hear "rumors of wars"- something like that- I would say since the invention of radio, Tv and spy satellites that no war ever goes unnoticed today. Personally, I think that the magical mushrooms could have given Jesus and other prophets their religious insight. Their is no documented proof that I am aware of that a divine power has intervened in the affairs of man.

How "old" is the oldest person who lived in your family?
by JH ini was just wondering how old can a person live.
my grandmother lived up to 97, almost 98. .
those born in 1914 are 92 years old and some are still alive.. i guess that no one lived over 120 years since the flood.. how "old" is the oldest person who lived in your family?

In the United States the odds of living to 100 are about 1 in 10,000. My g-grandfather was born in 1802- died in 1905- 103yrs old. His last sired child was my grandmother, born when he was 80yrs old. He outlived his first two wives. Good Irish/american stock. Back then the odds were probably more like 1 in 100,000. peace, Moshe

Why do the majority of "newbies" disappear ???
by kid-A ini have noticed that, in general, there is a "core" of regular posters on jwd that have been members for several years.. however, it seems the vast majority of "newbies" disappear after a couple posts, days or perhaps a week.
how many "welcome" or "introduction" .
threads have we had here where the new member disappears within a day or so, never to post again?

I have a special interest forum that is read by many, but the majority treat it like a newspaper and can't even manage to give a thank you for the helpful info they get. I have come to the conclusion that it is a special person who can compose a meaningful paragraph. Perhaps only 1/1,000 can do this and maybe only 1/10,000 can ever have an original idea. The regulars on JWD are as good as fire-brewed beer. That reminds me, I'm thirsty. peace, Moshe

Welcome to J-WDF , Boohiggy! I left the Org. on my own - in 1988 I sent a letter of membership annulment to the Society. The elders invited me to a meeting , which I didn't attend. -as far as I was concerned the letter could have been a summons from the Commander of the French Foreign Legion for a summary court martial. I hope you can achieve that state of mind, too. shalom, Moshe

Napa Valley, CA Child Abuse Court Case Victories
by AndersonsInfo innapa wt child abuse case.
two important court decisions, which came out of napa valley, ca, are now available for us to post on jwd.
these significant rulings overturn objections regularly made by the watchtower in recent lawsuits and may serve as a precedent for future lawsuits.

Even if they win the case at trial, they have to win on an appeal to establish any precedent. This could be the end of the Star Chamber judicial committee.

Re: What do you do for a living?
by MARTINLEYSHON inas many of you are aware being brought up in the organisation, there was a general directive from the wt that secular education was good, but not encouraged as far as university and further education was concerned.
many witnesses left school in the 70s with no formal qualifications.
my question therefore is 2 fold.. 1. what would you have liked to become as far as your career is concerned?.

I have been a union electrican for 35 years- first in construction for the past 12 years as UAW skilled tradesman- currently on paid furlough due to a Chrysler plant closing last year, awaiting transfer to another plant. Yes, I get paid to sit home. I have been home 24/7 for over 6 months and have I seen a JW on my street? Nope, not in the 4 years I have lived here have they come down my street. I asked the 2 JW's at work just before the plant closed, " I bet you can't wait to be a fulltime pioneer". I could tell from the look on their faces that pioneering was not on their agenda.

I was very fortunate to learn social dancing from a good Ballroom/studio. They had a very reasonable program of group lessons . Very good and confident dancers were found at the Regent Ballroom in Champaign, Illinois-USA. In one year you could cover 3- 12 week sessions of lessons. Each 12 weeks was about $90-100. ( 1990-95 prices) You could take classes like this for 6 years and never repeat yourself. My schedule never allowed this, but I envied the men who were at that level after , 4 to 6 years of classes and public dances every Friday night. The quickstep- now that is a dance to aim for, gents and ladies. You fly around the floor so fast that you must do a pivot or spin turn at each corner to break your momentum and change directions.
I also recommend a nightclub dance we called the two-step. It is danced to music like "Lady in Red"- you will have people looking at you in awe , if you and your partner can do this dance- it's for nightclub dancing.
I was a JW during the Disco era and I missed out on a lot of fun- it's not to late for some of you to find your groove!

Update On Russell Owned Allegheny Graveyard
by Rig Boy in"they write their boasts upon tombstones; they incorporate their deeds in obelisks; they place their hopes of remembrance in solid stones joined to other solid stones, dedicated to their subjects or their heirs forever, forgetful of the fact that stones that are deserted by the living are even more helpless than life that remains unprotected and preserved by stones (quoted in young 1993: 5).
a lot of skeptics have tried to weasel their way out of debates over weather masons planted the pyramid next to russell's grave and as to wether or not they wrote c.t.
russell's epitaph.

had the original studies in the scriptures books and these had on the front of them the two winged disk sun god RA from Egypt. I have research Freemasonry and the winged sun disk represents the actual Masonic God worshipped in the higher levels of the Masonic order. I wish I had taken the books from this lady. I knew something was very strange about these pagan symbols.Maybe ,Russell was just too cheap to pay for any original artwork and logos, so he just borrowed these pictures for his own use. NOW that makes sense, the WT, continues to do that today, and avoids giving credit to the original source. They copy others scholarly works and pass them off as "their research". Maybe someone in the WT copy dept. was a Mason and HE slipped these pictures past Russel. Find something else to worry about.
peace,
Moshe
