As long as we have ice sheets and glaciers, the temperatures will be slow to rise-- 80 calories of heat is needed to melt one gram of water at 32 degrees- once it melts, each calorie of heat will increase the water temperature by one degree. In like manner, when water freezes it gives up 80 calories of heat, which is why the farmers spray water onto strawberries and oranges in an attempt to keep the crops from getting any colder than 32 degrees to avoid a hard freeze. If at some point our glaciers and ice caps do melt away, we will then see a extremely fast temperature runaway effect. - maybe around the end of the 21st century- unless we have a super volcano to darken the skies and cool things off- it takes very little to trigger the start of a new ice age. Like they say, life is a crap shoot.

'1600 years of Ice melting in 25 years is a bad omen'
by designs inglaciologists from ohio state university have been studying the ice fields in peru.
tropical peru is home to ice formations 18,000 feet up in the quelccaya region, the largest of these tropical region ice sheets.. the glacier is melting so quickly that plant samples are having to be frozen artifically so that scientists 30 years from now can have something to study, lonnie thompson from the university said in the interview.
the ice field is the smallest it has been since the last ice age.. peruvians rely on the water from the glaciers, which will be reduced by 50% in their lifetime.

how do you cope with the stress of fading?
by brainmelt ini'm really struggling with it.
i've been learning the ttatt for the past 6 months now and i've been inadvertantly fading - either one of us or the children have had coughs/colds/flu/chicken pox/stress over the past 3 months which has meant we've missed a lot of meetings and field service with good reason.
we've only been out in service twice this year, so far no ones mentioned it to us but i'm waiting for our group overseer to bring it up anytime soon.

I can't remember his exact words but he said he feels the same as me but that if armaggedon did arrive in 20 years after all, he'd kick himself-
A good dose of ex-JW deprogramming will provide a complete cure for the WT's Armageddon phobia.
The ol' Boogeyman has been used by most successful religions- because a good scare works. The followers of Harold Camping finally figured it out, well most of them did, I hope-

My friend from 40 Years ago
by Lady Lee inwhen i was a young jw and all the other young jws were avoiding me because i was from "that family" i had one young girlfriend who didn't care.
we were both not well liked so we hung out together.

'Jonestown, they say, offers important lessons for psychology, such as the power of situational and social influences and the consequences of a leader using such influences to destructively manipulate others' behavior."
I am certain that politicians are using psychology to manipulate the voters, too. A small group has tremendous power, if they have the support of the major news and Internet media.
Why is it no longer kosher for reporters to say "illegal immigrant'?-- - is this not social mind conditioning to change public opinions? Who has the right to decide that those opinions should be changed?

Well done , Grace. It's good for the soul to do something like this-- I know, I have.-- once when I was towing a Uhaul trailer for 400 miles,(1989) I put up a big WT warning poster on the back of the trailer. Do you know that 2 people called our Jw helpline we had? - all from following that trailer and reading my sign. I know a few JWs must have seen it , too.

Disturbing new YouTube video showing Anthony Morris's approach to teenage baptism
by cedars inif anyone was under the illusion that all baptized jw children become dedicated solely of their own volition, then hopefully this new video should be a wake-up call.. .

(unfortunately, due to the soundtrack i've chosen, this video is apparently banned in germany.

Hope and fear- the WT plays the JWs like a fiddle- hope for the new order & eternal life- fear they won't be good enough, fear their kids will be killed for missing meetings and having weak faith= they didn't get baptised and dedicate themselves to a worldly corporation. They reel the JWs in with hope- and keep them trapped by fear. Children are motivated more by fear, than by the WT message of hope for the paradise. Keep scaring kids and parents= keeping the numbers up.

Unemployment is down, but why did America set a record 47.8 million on food stamps?
by moshe inin the usa a new record was set on food stamp enrollments, which seems ironic.
you would think as unemployment drops , food stamp usage would be dropping, too.
maybe those government unemployment numbers are fake numbers.

Mrs Jones can't have it too bad in her home- she has the time to practically live on this forum, which takes time away from taking care of her family= her first priority. I would prefer not to hear any whinning at all - but some folks just want attention- In the past people kept this stuff inside their home. - And now there is Facebook to feed that naccissistic need to convert a mundane life into something that feels important.
Spending too much time here is counter productive, IMO. I know that as well as anyone-
Insensitive? Ok, here is some help- call 1-800-CRY-BABY. I subscribe to the belief that it is possible to make a better life for yourself, through something called hard work and taking personal responsibilty for your situation. Look at President FDR, handicapped, but never defeated by his physical impairments! - Nothing is impossible for people who have will power. Everything is impossible for people who lack mental power.
Advice from successful people has value, the rest is suspect. .
This forum is a magnet for people who made a wrong turn in life and are still kicking the can down the road, people who avoid making decisive decisions, those who sympathize with weak folks who avoided taking personal responsibilty for their failures and they love to coddle folks who suffer adverse life results due to poor character choices.
Vociferous criticism from that crowd has as much value as the spit from a loud trumpet.
