You Men'zez are weird creatures... waaaaayyyy too many rules. Of course, being female and perfect, your silly little rules do not apply to me.

we always hear "the rules" from the female side.
now here are the rules* from the male side.. .
these are our rules:.

i've just watched all 3 parts of francis ford coppola's epic godfather once again.
it is a superb achievement on many levels.
each viewing reveals something new and fresh.. i recall, as a good jw at the time, not seeing it when released as it was not certified as 'suitable' given the content for jws.
The Ghost and The Darkness.
This is the story of a pair of rogue lions which turn man-eater and disrupt the building of the Uganda-Mombasa Railway in 1896-98 ultimately killing 135 men before being hunted down. The story is documented as truth. According to the record, the first lion was shot on Dec 9, 1898 and measured nine feet, eight inches from nose to tail!
Although a bit sensationalized for effect, the movie did a great job of scaring the living pee out of me. Big cats already kind of scare me, and the director did a wonderful job maintaining the tension throughout the film.
More information on this historical spine tingler can be found here.

it has been recently proved ( as far as i'm concerned) that paradise the jw view of it isn't coming.
scriptual evidence is so thin as to be non exsistent.
ok so what about armargedon then?
Now, now children. Don't be upset... It was all just a fairy tale afterall. Looks like I'd better get the Benadryl and leave the lights on again.

does anyone else garden along the gulf coast?
i used to be able to grow just about anything in northern cali, but since moving to houston, i have a devil of a time with my garden and flower beds.
they seem to be plagued with everything from insects to fungus and the amount of chemical solutions that the garden centers here recommend would poison the entire planet to the nth generation.
The freeway loops are awesome! I also love the u-turn lanes. Cali has more of a left hand turn lane where you have to wait forever to make a u-turn. It's funny though, it took me four months to get up the courage to get onto beltway 8; it terrified me. These people drive it like it's Nascar! OMFG!
When in doubt, lay your fist on the horn and floor it!!! That is, if you have the courtest to use the dang thing. And if you are in a car like mine, people expect you to be able to drive it like Vin Diesel in Fast and Furious (mustang). If the other guy is driving a crew-cab F-350+ or a long-bed dually, I don't care what you're driving... get the hell out of his/her way or you're gonna meet Jesus sooner than you expected!

.
The only good mushroom, is served sautee'd in butter, garlic and soy sauce and spooned over a medium rare delmonico. Serve with a glass or two of Petit Syrah and then I'd try them... :)

1. Go to college.
2. Armageddon is not coming to fix your problems, solve them yourself.
3. Don't get baptised... oops, wouldn't help since I was baptized closer to 12.
4. Maintain a group of real friends so that when you leave home, you won't be all alone when you begin your fade
5. DON'T get married, especially to a JW, abuser, alcaholic, emotionally unavailable witless "man".
6. YOU matter, your dreams matter, and you deserve to be happy doing what you love and loving the people you choose...
********** If your crazy witness family don't like that, the hell with them. Go live your life in happiness, it's all you've got.************

Thank you, Jazzbo. And, Welcome to the board!! :)
It's definitely been a challenge for me. You would have laughed your socks off if you saw my face the first time I saw a tomato horn worm. Something like... We didn't have those in northern Cali. My son picked out a satsuma orange tree a year ago. It tried to make oranges the first year but it was only a foot tall so I picked the oranges off and gave it another year to grow. This year, it set 27 oranges! I picked off all but 12 thinking more would die... they all made it and seem to be doing well, but my gosh! So, you're right about the oranges! :)
I've been going over the links that Blondie gave me, but didn't give much thought to the Urban Harvest one. I'll go back over it and also see if I can find the book. The first book I bought, Houston Gardens by Home and Gardens doesn't seem to offer helpful info, at least not for the Colonies area. Not sure why, but I keep trying.
Thanks again!

i was talking to a ministerial servant today, and the subject of marriage came up.
he said something very interesting, that recently many of the friends he grew up with in the truth (he is in his 30s) are on their second or third marriage.. he also talked about a more recent phenomenon that more empty nester jws (couples whose kids have left home), are deciding they don't want to stay together and are getting divorced.. we're talking about couples who have been married 20, 25, 30 or more years suddenly deciding to call it quits and it's not necessarily that they are looking for someone else; they simply want out of the marriage.. divorce does seem to be on the increase in congregations, especially the last one i attended.. it reminds me of a scripture in malachi we would sometimes hear about "not divorcing the wife of your youth".
why do you think divorce and separation are on the rise among long time married jws?.
I wonder if any divorces happen because their now adult children have left the troot, and they do not both agree to the requirement of shunning the children...

i remember as a child, before i knew what a "loom" was, i thought it must have been a groin, and therefore the fruit of the loom was dangly bits.
after all, that's what fruit of the looms protects, right?
what misconceptions did you have as a child?.
That's funny. I remember my sister saying that she thought the hail mary prayer went, Hail Mary full of Grapes. But she never saw grapes in any of the paintings or statues so wondered if Mary had eaten them all and left none for any other little children. She didn't much care for Mary.
