The Aftermath - Relationships After JW Life
by wanderlustguy ini have a significant other now...she was raised babtist and is very strong in her beleifs.
one of the difficult parts is that very subject, since i have no need to be "saved", and can very handily offer an abundance of reasoning as to why i could never trust a "preacher" to help me learn how to live.
ironically though, it is because of her i have started looking futher into what i beleive, basically looking into everything to determine what is true and what is fiction.

So sorry to hear about the rude injustice facing your mom. For many elderly witnesses who have spent their lives in the group, they view the congregation as their most important comforter in their old age, and are very fearful of speaking out lest they lose that security.
She must be a very brave lady to take on the elders at her age.

I may have this wrong, but didn't the jw's state that God confused the languages at Nimrod's time because if he didn't there would not be anything that the people would not be capable of, and was that not just a few years after the 'flood'?

Argument from an elder on why to not leave the JWs...
by undercover ini got an interesting reply from an elder friend when i admitted that i had issues with the wts.
i had listed the failed predictions, the changing doctrines and the mistakes made by the wts.. he came back with the examples of the israelites in the wilderness and under the various kings.
the nation of israel was still god's people despite their hardheadedness and sins.

Even though the nation as a whole had gone astray, there were still those faithful to Jehovah.
You can be faithful to your belief in Jehovah, if that is what you believe, without leaving your country.
Jehovah still called them his chosen people and those that were really faithful endured the bad times along with the good.

I was forced a hand that was dealt and have made the best of it and haven't been so happy in my life!
So very true. I left a man who put me in the hospital more than once. They never even gave him a slap on the wrist. Two years after I left him I too found a wonderful man, and have never been so happy. No more guilt and fear running my life, and a real partner. I'm sometimes saddned by the loss of my parents and siblings, but you know what, if they really loved me as much as they said they did, they would never have abandoned me so brutally and in the middle of recouperating from a hospital stay. So I say, your family is who you make it, not the group of humans you are thrown into at birth! In fact, I think that Jesus said similar words somewher? :)

In otherwords, let's blackmail them back into the borg. I don't care what they 'think' they are accomplishing. During the Inquisition, priests would torture people into 'admiting' to things they had never done. They thought they were accomplishing saving the person's soul. I see no difference here, they just cannot physically torture us so they abuse us using our family to serve their purposes.
