my wife and i have been disassociated for about 2 months now.
every day in our small town we are being shunned by former friends.
one in particular annoyed me today.
chuckky,
Normally, I will go out of my way to be very obvious and say hello to them. If they don't speak to me, I'll just say, "I'm sorry you feel that way. It's not a very Christian faith is it?" Then I just stand there and wait for their response. It took some time for me to be able to do this, but I refuse to play into their rules by being the least bit embarrassed or humiliated by these tactics. You can say, well they are only following orders. Yeah, well that does not excuse soldiers, who commit atrocities in wartime, and it does not excuse the individual r&f jw's either.
There have been times when this has resulted in me being able to explain what is going on to others such as in line at the grocery store or the movie theatres, even in the park.
Personally, I do not care what effect this has on the individual witness. If it wakes them up then great. If it embarrasses the hell out of them, that's fine too. It sure makes me feel better to know that their silliness does not control how I feel anymore!

.
just found this site today and as well as being amused, concerned and shocked at some of the stuff i?ve found here, reading the bios and posts of other ex jw?s has in a way made me feel a little bit less alone in the world.
don?t get me wrong, i?m not an emotionally scared loner, it?s like i?ve finally found someone else to stand outside morning assemble with.
Welcome, mtbatoon. So nice to have you join us!

my ex-best friend still lives in the area and we haven't spoken since i was announced as being df'd although i had left years before.
anyways, i decided to call her up.
we used to hang out, we went on trips together, we had a blast!
it's easier to go through the motions and sit by idly and wait for the "new system" than to work hard and make something out of your life
This is something that truly frustrates my teenage son about his jw dad. His dad is quite intelligent, and showed a lot of promise early in life. He is a talented draftsman, and could easily have been an architect. However, because of the anti-college slant of the witnesses, he never went.
Our son cannot understand why, in spite of the fact that his dad is now in his early 50's and could still get a degree and do something with his life, he chooses to live with his own father now in his 80's, and work drawing pictures for 1/4 what he's really worth. Although I do not believe that the ex is really happy, he would rather wait on the 'paradise' than take action and lead a fulfilling life. I know that he has serious doubts about the teachings of the WT, and cannot figure out if he is too lazy to pick himself up and do something, or if he is afraid to face the scrutiny of his family.
One thing I am really thankful for is that our children are using him as a cautionary example, and fully intend not to pursue his choices. They, all three, have goals in life and want education. Their goals are (in order of age): Division Manager (retail), Civil Engineer, and Archeologist. My youngest being six wants to be Batman... Still working on that one.
Although the goals may change as they grow, each occupation will require higher education. I couldn't be happier in that my children will not face the same dim future as I did as a child.

my 30-year old daughter committed suicide on 11-13-2004. we had both been jw's who had left the borg.
she had been diagnosed as bipolar.
i did a search from the top of the page to see if this topic has been covered but it did not work.
Rico,
I am so sorry to hear of your tragic loss. (((Rico))) I cannot imagine the pain you must feel having lost a child.

someone on this site mentioned they got a km off ebay that praised those that sold all their belongings and preached.. does anyone know which km that was?.
interesting, when going through the society's cd-rom i noticed that the drama for the district convention in 1975 was about noah's ark and was something along the lines of "there's still time left!
" (i'm paraphrasing).. -dm
Something else happened because of this false prophecy. I knew families who went out in 1975 and charged their credit limits to the maximum because they thought they'd never have to pay it off. Never saw so many sports cars, expensive jewelry, and dinners out in my life.
Sure enough, by 1977 many of these families were facing bankruptcy.

Mainly, for it to be remembered... lol
I usually buy my hubby power tools and a card.
He will usually take me out to a nice dinner and a movie, and will always buy me a boquet of red and white carnations (my favorite flower). For the mood to be right, we have arrangements for someone to watch our son overnight, that way we have the evening to ourselves.
Seems to work out quite well...

It's acting a little wacky on me too. Or...maybe it's just me?
