favourite games to play as a child during boring meetings
by Surfacing inmy parents were both very strict, and i wasn't allowed any toys at the hall.
my rations included a copy of my book of bible stories, and a pen and note pad.
my parents were strict to the point of not allowing me to draw pictures, i had to "take notes".

A Divided Household
by HadEnuf inwhilst taking my morning shower, where i always seem to do my best thinking (please, no rude remarks concerning showering, thank you)...i got to thinking about my dad.
our family was raised jw's; except for my dad, who knew better!
he passed away about 20 years ago and today, whilst in my shower, (oh yeah, i said that already)...i thought how hard that must of been on him.

Timekeeping
by stillajwexelder ini have noticed timekeeping has got worse at meetings lately - always running over - some elders are very bad - but i notice it is always the publishers that get counseled not the elders and they are the worse culprits.
ministerial servants seem to be ok -the obviously want to progeress to elder and feel if they keep going over time they will not make elder.
i am told the worse person of all for timekeeping was freddie franz -anybody have personal experience of this?

Chauvanism or Chivalry?
by stillajwexelder inover the years i have become less of male chauvanist pig and much more chivalrous - my wife says she as a woman likes men to be men and hold doors open for her and stand up on an airport shuttle bus etc .
if there are no seats left.
to me the wtbts is very chauvanistic and not very chivalrous.

There are a lot of women who still value and cherish chivalry. I enjoy having the door held for me and enjoy being treated with respect by my man. I do not feel that I am de-valued because of such actions, quite the opposite. I can see from other posts here that I am not alone.
I think it is sad that men are afraid to act in this way or compliment a woman on anything out of fear of being labeled a chauvinist or committing sexual harassment. And, I think it is equally sad that some women are offended by such comments and actions.
Chivalry, I'm afraid, has been dealt the deathblow by the feminist movement. I know, I know, I'll probably get clobbered for saying that.

Shortage of skilled labourers to work at Bethel??
by starfish422 inmy father, age 62, has been called to bethel to help do some work in his particular trade.
he went up yesterday and will be there until friday night, if, as my sister put it, "they let him go.
" she said, "i know, i made the same comment.

It would be hilarious if the building project took 20 years and never was completed.
We can only pray...lol
I'm wondering if many of the youngsters are opting for college rather than the trades these days, and their free labor pool is drying up? More evidence of Jehovah?s active blessings on the truly magnificent organization... <gag>

Your opinions.....please!
by Gill ini'm asking your opinion today and probably venting my spleen a little as well, i'm afraid.. we all agree, i've noticed that shunning, for the jw reasons is wrong and even downright wicked.. however, my husband will no longer speak to or acknowledge his parents, after years of being a very good, infact, too good a son to them.. i posted a while ago about the ongoing problem with our jw families.
we wanted to take in my husbands very elderly grandfather but his parents would not allow it because we are faded jws.
we found a letter while reading through grandpa's cards in which, my mother-in-law had slandered us terribly and my family.

Gill,
I'm just steaming mad when I read this... (((Gill))).
The letter from a lawyer is a good idea, make sure the lawyer knows that you do not want them to 'soft-peddle' the language.
Your mum-in-law sounds like a real doozie. My grandmother should be living with one of the other children besides my mom as well, but mom won't have it since she is the only witness. For mom though, it isn't the money, it's purely the religion, in spite of the fact that Gma would be happier with one of her other children.
