  How Do YOU Feel Knowing That YOU Were In A Cult?

  for years, i refused to think of the witnesses as a "cult".

  too harsh and restrictive of a word for me......but there is no denying that we were all in a mind controlling cult.

  are you embarrassed or uncomfortable knowing that you belonged to a cult just like the moonies and the branch davidians are/werw a cult?

  the first congregation i went to basically was warm and friendly even though i didn't develop very many close friends there but some of the others i went to were rather scandulous in more ways than one.

  one that i went to im surprised anybody is still there that has a conscious with all that went on.

  was yours like that?

  Elder divorced his wife and married a sister (also married), who he was "counseling", their families had been friends for over 20 years...

  Another elder, been in for over 50 years, was running an underground porn empire...

  That elder and his brother both divorced, (one had been married 50 years) wives from 3rd world countries (costs about $25k) and parade 'em around like they really have something...

  His brother, my father, was in good standing and sleeping with/dating a 12 year old girl

  Nah...everything was normal, nothing to report here...

  When you see a JW or two on the street, do you ignore them or speak tothem?

  most of the time i just walk on by.

  i just can't be bothered, and they are not going to believe what i say anyway.

  besides, should i tell them i am disfellowshipped, which may scare them away?

  I ask them questions, usually about disfellowshipping and how hard it must be to maintain their field service schedule while supporting themselves, or other leading questions that I know they cannot answer. The goal for me is not to prove anything or make a stand...but plant a question that sticks. If just one leaves after a snowball effect started by it...I did my part.

  i've been reading through a lot of the posts and have to say, things are looking bad for me....i am looking for a bit of support with something that looks like an all too familiar topic:.

  non-jw dating a jw.. my currently disfellowshiped jw is a 30 year old divorced father (3 children).

  we have been together for 2 years.

  Put it this way, i am married to a jw that is married and in love with the org and life being married to someone that loves a false idea is pure hell.
