I'm sure that most of us would have experienced both sides of shunning, and naturally feel quite repulsed that we could have dished out such cruel behaviour. I think though that honestly most of those that went before us had the ability and experience to see what exactly our motivations were. They just like us would have no doubt dished out some form of shunning too. I think for most of us this horrid behaviour isn't personal, or malicious and therefore cannot really be taken so. We know that the org controls those inside by mind gripping fear, this is the only thing that could possibly force friendships and loved ones apart in the most unnatural way. So although we should be a little grieved, I don't believe we should beat ourselves up about it. It is great that we can reconnect with those that went before us, and given time, and building trust I believe our relationships can be stored to better, more honest, and unconditional than it ever was before when we were trapped inside the org. frog x

Apologies for JW shunning
by greendawn inyou disassociated or got disfellowshipped and the jws were shunning you.
but then some of them went down the same road as you later.
did they then approach you as ex-jws and apologise for the way they had treated you, and what exactly did they have to say?

Do you think the WTS will ever seriously start DA'ing faders?
by AK - Jeff insome have indicated that this might be coming.
based mostly on the new book - some think maybe the org is positioning itself to remove all possible 'doubters' and 'inside apostates' this way.. i mean - having spent four decades watching the actions of this organization as a witness, i can see something like that happening perhaps.. service meeting announcement;.
having had six months to renew his association actively with jehovah's witnesses, and having not been to a meeting or out in service for that same time span, we must announce that ____________ has left the organization and shown by his actions that he is no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.. the brothers and sisters need to be reiminded that he should be treated 'as a man of the nations' - full shunning is in effect!.

If they "society" went too hardcore with the 'if you're not with us, you're against us policy' people would be forced to honestly re-evaluate their motives, the org doesn't really want its members to think for themselves, this is why they hand feed people with pureed mush. The ship is sinking, I'm just glad I'm not going down with it. frog

Isn't it great to be a kid!
by Evesapple inmy son matt at felger park in chicago this afternoon.
so, happy and carefree with not a care in the world...it's so educational to see things through his eyes once in a while, to re-connect with innocence....there's no drug like it in the world :)

kiddos are completely precious, it is our responsbility to make sure they have the most carefree and nurturing an upbringing as possible...the complete opposite of what so many of us had growing up in the borg...just have to make sure we get it right with our own littlies, when we get around to having them:) frog

Honestly, do you think that JW's really like going to 3 or 4day assemblies?
by JH in.
honestly, do you think that jw's really like going to 3 or 4 day assemblies, especially when it's out of town, far away, and you have to take a motel room, and all the gas money and food money it takes, as well as having to sit down all day listening to endless talks...and that for 3 or 4 days in a row.. and often, they have to take a day off from work, to attend the friday meeting, so no pay for that day.. i think that the jw's are glad when it's finally over, not before.. .

As a young person I used to love it, used to look forward to it all year...it generally meant new outfits, a holiday away, going out to dinner 3 nights in a row, catching up with all your friends, checking out the talent in the local area, staying in a swish motel (or a tent in my families case). My poor mother though, seven kids, and a pain in the ars* husband, had to get up hearly and make our lunches, iron all of our clothes and care for the littlies through the sessions so didn't get anything out of it!

Motive of some Posters

And anyway, would it not be nice if there were all also some 'real' JW's here, to defend some of the things said? That would only make it more interesting in my opinion. (as the sign says, ...everybody welcome)
Hi DannyBloem, it's a pleasure to have you here:) True all opinions are welcome, but you have to realise that if you added up the number of years that many of us were JW's it could equate into the many of thousands. Therefore, although clearly everyone is welcome we are well aware of the "witness" response to most statements/opinions posted on this forum. Here you will find a wide variety of perspectives, but as I'm sure you're very well aware, the "witness" perspective is more of a collective thing, a programmed response, and usually lacks objectivity. You have to realise too that many of us see those that call them jw's and post here as rather hypocritical. I personally would welcome anyone that wanted friendship and support here, and anyone who had a mind enough of their own that warrants giving their opinion. froglett

Can I get Reproved or Disfellowshipped for not...
by Smoky inpreaching (door to door), commenting, or giving talks?.
i am currently fading away, but i occasionaly go to the meetings, just to show my face from time to time, basically to maintain my relationships with friends and family.
i guess leaving everything, is a jump i am not ready for, just yet.

Hi there smokey, hmmm I doubt very much that you would ever be reproved or disfellowshipped for becoming inactive however, depending on the elders in your cong and how much of a 'witch hunt' they like to go on, they might find some other reason if they discern that your heart isn't in it anymore. I strongly agree with your method of fading initially, until you are strong enough to face the music completely. For some people disasociating themselves can be a very libertaing experience, it would give you a chance to be fully honest with yourself about the reasons why you cannot submit to the teaching of the jw faith anymore, and it would subsequently then give you closure, and a chance to move on.
Get prepared though for the harassment from elders, and jw friends and family, it can get pretty tedious after a while. It's not an easy road, but a necessary one. All the best with it, we're always here if you need to chat:) frog xx

Whoa, that is way too scary, what a vivid dream you had! Must have been triggered by something that had been going on that day. You were an impromtue talker?! I always fully admired those guys who had the guts to get up there, was always a little but bummed that they didn't just skip the talk, and go to an early kingdumb song;) frog
