  On behalf of my two adult children who I dragged to the meetings as teenagers......

  Having been encouraged to expect the cong to warmly welcome them into their new family, having to understand the reality which was quite different.

  As children of someone who was not related to an elder, without a father, maybe simply don't have the right face...to be included in any teen social events was extremely unlikely. How hard it was for them to listen to a group who had been together fo some fun when they had not been included AND had actually given up their genuine 'wordly' friends for such a lonely existence.

  when a person enters the org having already had a life outside it, he/she is told that family and friends must take a back seat.

  further to that, some individuals will even 'council' you that total departure from those you love would be wise and indeed expected!

  I would like to raise a subject that I bet all you long-time posties have already discussed:

  When a person enters the org having already had a life outside it, he/she is told that family and friends must take a back seat. Further to that, some individuals will even 'COUNCIL' you that total departure from those you love would be wise and indeed expected! (we don't want to do anything that will prevent Jah's blessing, do we?)

  Gullibility and a desire to do the right thing according to 'what's expected' will then pull you to actually carry out this terrible deed. For some, sadly, it will be exactly the excuse they've been waiting for in order to snub someone they don't like but for most, it will be the most painful experiences to endure.

  For someone who was abandoned by their birth-parents and then adopted by a new set of parents it's another ball game:

  Where is the spirit of love in suddenly telling these people who rescued you from being an orphan that you can no longer honour their birthdays nor can you allow them to share family Christmas hols with you and your own children who they view as their grandchildren?

  Those that would never miss a meeting or field service no matter what...

  did you know a few in your congregation that would never miss a meeting, no matter what.

  even if it was 20 below zero or 100 f or if they were sick, they would be there anyways.. these people irritated me, because they wanted to show how good they were.. did you know any like that?

  Everybody's nature is individually developed as a result of their experiences in their pasts and some consequently, feel that they must always give of their best whatever they do in life.

  So, when they are persistently told that any slacking on their part indicates a lack of appreciation for the organisation that God has so generously provided for them, then this one thought controls their every choice. Ne'st pa?

  I have a close friend who is in the Police force and head of the Child Abuse department in my area.

  A short while ago, he was conducting an inquiry into a case of child abuse locally within the cong.

  As far as he was concerned, his team were confident from the evidence that they had a strong case which was very serious but he struggled to conclude the case and bring it to court because, as he put it, the Elders in the congregation all closed ranks and refused to help the Police to procede.

  My friend has children and is a sincere advocate for the safety of children. He was very distressed with this case because he felt he couldn't help the victims involved.

  Pure and simple TRUTH!

  JW Distinctions w/o a Difference

  distinctions without a difference:

  issues regarding jw beliefs and teachings bugged me going into the religion, and bugged me until i left.

  they are those oh so all-important claims they make that other religions are doing such bad things ... yet they do the same thing ... but, they manage to draw some kind of technical distinction that really makes no difference.

  Absolutely agree.

  Clergy class or heirarchy does exist within org which can open the way to special treatment or the opposite being, the weight of being held up as an example.(given a halo to wear)!

  Churches are critisized for claiming to be God's reps on earth yet that's what org does

  i am a baptised jw and am wanting to disassociate myself.

  i am looking to find someone who has left this org to give me some idea on the letter to write and how they dealt with their friends who shunned them

  Hia....I'm a newbie and left jw's org 8years ago after 12years.

  I chose not to write a letter because the choice was mine to make and belonged only to me.

  I felt that the act of writing a letter handed the org. a power over me that was not theirs by any right.

  Your life belongs to you and you answer to no-one but yourself.

  It is entirely possible to leave behind you something that is unhealthy for you and to choose to be true to 'you'.

  my husbands grandmother as been diagnosed with full blown ovary cancer.

  they fear that she also has it in her stomach as well.

  they are trying to get her to the or tonight in order to operate on her right away.

  Why did you "choose" to become a Witness?

  Very young, new mum, ex-sunday school, church goer, straying husband........witness that called was a mother earth type, compassionate etc. The idea of being part of a world-wide brotherhood of people that all loved the Creator seemed like Paradise to say nothing of the emotiveness of being such an awful mother if I risked my daughter's life at an Armageddon!

  Clearly, I was vulnerable, in need and naive.

  As a newbie I'd like to thank everyone for being here.
