Remembering Jan Groenveld
by Sunspot ini was just reading the "12 steps" thread and decided to start a new thread to give those of us who "knew" her-the chance to say what they'd like to share with all our newbies.
when i was in the process of knowing what the wts was all about, and not quite ready to make the break or tell people what i had discovered---jan took me under her large wing and helped me so much.
i can't tell you how many things she sent for me to read and how many emails she wrote to me as i plodded and trudged through my realization and pain of what i had dedicated my life to serving.

I never met Jan but it sounded like she was a wonderful woman.
Just wanted to pay my respects

Did you feel guilty when you did your first post on the forum???
by Es inhello all, hope everyone is well,.
as i read many posts there seems to be many that "closet" read and it isnt till many months or even years that they actually post something.
was just wondering how long it took other people to post and did they feel guilty?.

Not sure if I made a wrong move
by redskymedic ini posted here a bit a while back.
quick background- df-ed when i was 21 (10 yrs ago), left the jw's as a single mom with a 3 yr old son.
jw mom helped me raise him for the first few years, so my departure was a sticky family mess.

Hi red i feel your pain.... I faded out a couple of years ago...I also have a son. I am getting married (2nd time round) to a non believer at the end of the year, before I stopped talking to dad which only happend a few months ago he was kinda doin the same thing he would buy things for us that would benefit all of us my partner included but according to him it wsa only bought for my son and I. He would invite my son and I but not my partner......Ive been thinkin bout it and I will take the same stance as you, if you cant accept me for who I am and who I am with then dont accept any of us at all.

Jehovah's Witness Oddities
by minimus ini now enjoy telling people about the things jehovah's witnesses can and cannot do.
for instance, witnesses can work in a store that sells lottery tickets and tobacco but they can't own the store themselves.....whole blood is forbidden to be transfused yet blood fractions are acceptable.
donating blood in any form is wrong but accepting blood fractions is a conscience matter.........can you think of other jw oddities????

Not that this is anything big but I was shocked to find out my father (elder) was involved in the Football tippings at his work also run by brothers. He actually one the prize when i confronted him on this it was ok because they wernt contributing money ever week, but if they had it would have been betting and he wouldnt have done it.

Re: the funeral that I did not want to go to today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by cindykp inthose of you who saw my threads, know that my grandpa was going to die.
you may also remember the fact
that he went from the catholic religion to jw"s, may have had this wrong at first, but in 2003. we discussed the fact

heya cindy,
Wish you all the best. But dont you think family should be there for you no matter what? I have faded away, I sent my D/A letter about a month ago but it has been dismissed as they thought I was just getting back at my father(elder)....my dad has already told me if i leave the truth he wouldnt talk to me and would encourage my mum to do the same. this hurts as I have a 3 year old son there only grandchild. But as time has progressed, it actually feels a whole less stressful having my dad in my life. I still see my mum as I am not D/A as yet but I have told my father to leave me alone.
Being a parent now I can not understand how any parent could shun there child........isnt it supposed to be unconditional love

Whatever happened to the pioneer-assist program?
by Goldminer in.
i remember about 5 or 6 years ago, they introduced the pioneer-assist program at one of the service meetings.the purpose of of this program was for the spiritually-strong pioneers to go out in service with an r&f member on a weekly basis for about 6 months to help build up others in the congregation.part of this was because in the mid to late 90's a large number of people had become jw's and they wanted to make good publishers with them.. anyways,my wife was quickly signed up as was another young sister down the road.my wife was excited about it and was really hoping to benefit spiritually.within a few weeks though, her pioneer partner started making up excuses why she couldn't go out with my wife until eventually their arrangement just petered out.the young sister down the road was also quickly ditched;the pioneer saying she had to care for her elderly mother(she didn't stop pioneering though).before long the pioneer clique was back to normal and the spiritually-strong pioneers were again going out in service with other spiritually-strong pioneers.i don't recall any updates or the program itself ever mentioned again at the kingdom hall, like it was just a bad experiment or a major burden on the pioneers.. does anyone have any experiences with the pioneer-assist program?

I agree with blueblades.... pioneers feel they are above the weak and lowly ones.
It makes me sick.
