FreedomLover dropped the F-bomb (f*ck) a couple of times recently ... it was weird at first but I'm getting used to it.
I like it when she uses it as an "action" word (verb) with me though ... heheheh.

i know mine has.
i went back to my flat earlier this afternoon to pick some things up, i am moving out of there slowly, and was carrying a heavy box out to my car when i stumbled and dropped it on my foot.
it wasn't too painful, thankfully, but i came out with a stream of expletives, most of them beginning with f. when i was a jw, even thinking those words would have filled me with shame.

a refreshing change is sen. joe lieberman, who went to iraq then got his own party mad at him for talking truth.
maybe the libs who inhabit this forum forget that most of their fearless leaders in the democratic party supported the war, now villify pres.
bush for continuing it (effectively!).
Joe Lieberman isn't.
I actually think most democrats are along the lines of a Joe Lieberman. Problem is ... the mainstream media is more to the left.
Unless of course, you are a Limbaugh and Hannity fan ... then I guess most democrats are wackjobs.

hey you all.
well finally got the courage to put this all down on paper for my dad.
if you want to read it and give me any feedback i'd truly appreciate it.
Not meaning to answer for my wife ... but I think she wants him to speak to her in person regarding the ACTUAL problems with the Society.
I believe the point she is trying to make from this letter is only that (1) she has taken it seriously, (2) she was looking to strengthen her faith by her research, (3) her motives were questioned when things didn't add up, (4) she does not want to lose her relationship with her father.
As an apostate, we love seeing the list of contradictions right out in front of us, concisely documented and explained. It is not the same for active JWs ... especially lifelong ones.
I believe she does not want the "apostate" defense shields to go up. She won't have any problem with defending her beliefs in person when it comes down to it. Right now she is just laying the foundation. Establishing her motive more than anything.
So ... I think sending a list of contradictions and lies would just muddy the waters of her real intentions ... namely ... establishing her motives and love for her father.

but I wonder if it might not be better, as far as possible, to talk this over with him
I think she addressed this ....
I wanted to speak to you in person when you came up here, but it looks like you won’t be up here for awhile, and I really need to talk to you about this.
[...]
I didn’t want to do this through a letter, and I didn’t want to bring this up before XXXX’s wedding, however certain family members are being rather aggressive and I needed to talk to you about this before you heard it from someone else. ;-ithinkisee
i wrote this paper for my logic class at university of phoenix.
we had to pick 3 logical fallacies explain and give examples.
show where an organization or business uses them.
This first part is not about the content of the paper ... just a writing suggestion.
A great writing tip I learned was to look for any occasions where you may use the word "that", and see if you can re-work the sentence to exclude "that". It often makes for more straightforward writing. Most occasions where people use "that" are not needed. Some places where I noticed this was:
"divert their attention to something that is easier"

Anyways, you get the idea. There are others in your paper still. And there are others "that" don't need to be changed.
Hopefully you can see where "that" is overused. It is a geek-like pet peeve of mine. After I write something I actually go through it looking for all occurences of "that" (and a couple other words). Limiting unecessary words makes for more poignant and powerful writing, IMO. After you remove all the "that's", go back andn re-read it. You will likely find the writing sound much more to the point.
As far as the content of that paper ... spot on! Good work!
It was a logic class at a local community college that actually opened my eyes to the logical fallacies the Society uses in their writings. Of course, I was still trying to be a JW at the time.
Hmmmm .... why is it they don't want kids to go to college?

i was just thinking - since i have been fading and not at meetings, i have gotten many, many phone calls.
i have gotten many comments.
it occurred to me that every time i hear something from a witness, it has to do with trying to get me involved in an activity.
Combatting Cult Mind Control : The #1 Best-selling Guide to Protection, Rescue, and Recovery from Destructive Cults

============================
(One of the cult traits from his book:)
Most groups have a stringent schedule for members. There is always something to do in these groups. It has its own distinctive set of behaviours that bind it together.
Does the Society encourage this?
KM 1/95 "Always Plenty To Do" We must prepare for and attend weekly congregation meetings. We are encouraged not to let a week go by without having some share in the field ministry. Sufficient time must be regularly set aside for personal and family Bible study. Elders and ministerial servants have many congregation assignments. At times we are asked to help worthy ones in need. 2 Occasionally, some of us may feel overwhelmed by all that we have to do. Yet, the busiest people can be among the happiest if balance and proper perspective are maintained. [...]6 There is an added benefit in having plenty to do. When we are busy pursuing a healthy spiritual routine, time seems to go by much faster. Realizing that each day that passes brings us closer to the new world, we gladly accept the full life we enjoy now. We also realize the wisdom of staying busy, inasmuch as we have less time to get involved in futile worldly pursuits.
w94 9/1 p 13 Despite Being Made of Dust, Push Ahead!20 Now, during the concluding years of Satan?s world system, is not the time to slow down-not as far as Kingdom preaching is concerned and not as far as developing more fully the fruitage of God's spirit is concerned. In both areas we have "plenty to do." Now is the time to push ahead because we know our "labor is not in vain." (1 Corinthians 15:58) Jehovah will sustain us, for of him David said: "Never will he allow the righteous one to totter." (Psalm 55:22) What a joy to know that Jehovah is permitting us personally to share in the grandest work imperfect human creatures have ever been assigned to do-and this despite our being made of dust!

Righteous RequirementsThe territory now being covered one to two times in six months could very easily be covered four to six times in the same period if everyone took his Kingdom responsibilities seriously.

this has probably by far the hardest adjustment my husband and myself have had to make.
sometimes we feel like we just dont really belong anywhere.
sometimes we still act and think like jw s even though we are getting together a nice network of new friends.. my question is, does it get easier with time to feel like you belong somewhere?.
I wonder sometimes if some JWs are so conditioned to think that the rest of "worldly" humanity is dangerous, that they have real issues with forming normal friendships after breaking out of the cult.
Referring to his daughter who left the JWs, one elder told me, "She said she doesn't really have any friends. I told her that's because you can't have any REAL friends in the world. Come back to the truth."
Referring to his son who never was baptized and left, another elder told me, "He has had a hard time lately. He had some bad friends - and REALLY - what kind of friends can you make out in the world anyways?!"
So ... yes ... JW's are so conditioned ...
