I wish we got that show here in the U.S.
I am interested in how a lot of pseudo-science and astrology stuff is based on myth just as much as religion.
When will we get that kind of programming over here?

I used to work in Naples, and a little sidenote .... the TV Station putting this story out has a TV News Anchor (Patrick Comer) that is an elder and HLC member (actually he recently left the station). Yet, he is still very well connected both in the local media and is a robot JW Elder and it looks like he pulled some of his connections out to get this story aired. When the Society says jump - he says how high. I personally know elders (that have left the JWs) that have confronted him on blood contradictions and the elder asking the question ended up being marked by this guy.
He now works for a local fire dept. You can see him here. Looks like he used some of his connections in the story there too.
It's more than just a coincidence it was on WINK TV. It was a strategy for sure.
SIDENOTE: Man that Gene Case looks and acts like an arrogant prick elder doesn't he?

read the Bible for yourself
by a friend inseems a lot of people are depending on everyone else to solve their problem.
questions like who is jehovah, who is jesus, what is the truth, are some of the deep spiritual truths asked by all of us.
however, the bible is the one to turn to when questioning.

I think for most of us it was because as JWs we were used to having the answers given to us. Our research as JWs wasn't really research. It was just learning to recite what the Watchtower "Official Stance" was on things.
When I read the bible without the blinders on - especially the New Testament - it was like reading a whole new book. It was emotional for me as well, even crying on occasion.
But then I learned the same reaction is had by people who read other holy writings, from Buddha to The Book of Mormon, to the Torah to the Koran.
I wanted to know why my reaction to the bible was more legitimate than the reaction others have to other so-called Holy Books.
I never found a satisfactory reason.
Since then I have truly learned the meaning of researching and finding answers for oneself - even if they aren't the answers one wants to hear.
I'm glad the bible works for you. As long as you're not clamoring for legislation on Intelligent Design, and abstinence programs only in school I wish you well on your journey.

DONATING YOUR CAR TO WATCHTOWER
by badboy inwt is one many religious charities in new york you can donate your car to.
-
ithinkisee
You essentially donate your car to the JWs when you are a witness anyways. I can't recall the amount of times my dad waxed, changed the oil, and detailed the family car, only to have it taken out on muddy backroads by my mom the next day.
And all the extra miles - and therefore maintenance and upkeep.
The Society helped many of our family cars depreciate in value much faster than they would have otherwise.

Shunning of ex JW family members imposed or optional?
by greendawn insome supportes of the jws argue that the wts does not impose on its followers to shun and disgrace ex jw family members, it leaves them the option to decide on the issue and some shun and others do not.
is that an honest arguments or is it like the blood issue where the wts supposedly doesn't impose on its members the decision to refuse blood?
for all we know the non shunning of ex jw family members except for absolutely necessary contact could lead a jw to dfing.

It's like you said. One hallmark of cults is to make people "think" they are giving you a choice when there really is no choice. See Steve Hassan's CULT MODEL for more information.
Similar to the blood thing where they have repeatedly claimed they do not discourage people from taking blood (examples in the news here and here) it is actually an "implied choice". They are made to feel "extra spiritual" if they follow the Society's "suggestions".

Whether it was a church or shopping mall those kids were assholes.

So my mom became a JW, and there is this family down the road that has been helping/brainwashing my mom. When my dad forbade her to go to meetings she would lock herself in the bathroom and sneak out the window and the JW family down the street would take her to meetings.
The dad/elder in this JW family had been added and removed as an elder a couple of times and no one knew why.
As I was growing up - especially in my early teens - I would notice his truck driving by our house several times per day. Some days I would come home from school and his truck would be in our driveway. He would just wave and say he was looking for something, or that he was seeing if my dad was home because he needed to ask a question.
I never thought much about it.
One day, my dad had his truck in the shop for repairs and he was home alone. But since his truck was gone it looked like nobody was home. My dad was taking a nap in the middle of the afternoon in his bedroom when he heard somebody open the front door. All us kids were supposed to have been at school, and my mom was supposed to have been at work.
But the door opened and someone walked in like they owned the place. This person without hesitating bounded across the house straight for my parent's room - where my dad had been sleeping. And it wasn't light footsteps from us kids or from our mom. So, all of a sudden my dad got into defensive mode (he's a police officer) and he jumped up to confront whoever was at the door.
As my dad got to the door way of his room - who was it heading full steam for my parents bedroom? None other than the "elder" from up the road.
My dad asked what he was doing? The elder stammered and said, "Oh uh ... I was looking for a circular saw your son borrowed from me."
"In my bedroom?" my dad asked. "Why would a circular saw be in my bedroom? Or anywhere inside the house for that matter?"
He had no answer. My dad said, "I think you had better leave."
He said, "Well, yeah, ok. I'll give your son a call later on today." He scurried away.
For awhile it turned into a full blown investigation by elders, and he stuck by his story that he was looking for tools.
Over the years certain things had ended up missing from my parent's room - including undergarments and jewelry.
My dad never became a JW, but at one point even my mom began being creeped out by this guy. She told me once that he gave her hugs that felt - well - inappropriate. The kind of creepy lingering hugs that make you feel like you need to take a shower afterwards.
In my late teens, before I went to Brooklyn Bethel, he was again removed from his elder position and I don't think he ever became one again. As usual it was kept hush hush and no one ever knew why. But he is in congregations today without restriction.
My mom - in typical JW fashion - has forgiven this JW elder that helped her sneak out of the house - only so he could later sneak in. But this was due to nothing more than pride on her part - she could not bring herself to admit that this religion she was a part of was so creepy - especially since she had spent so much time demonizing my father for not being a JW.
It became something with my mom that was just never talked about. She continues to associate with him and his wife to this day and hasn't spoken with me in over 18 months.
Great stuff religion.
