  Dub sayings and their true meaning.

  jw's have a vocabulary and terminology of their own dont they?

  i have thought about putting togther an apostaglossary to identify those particular sayings and their true meaning; i have included a few to start the ball rolling;.

  'he doesnt have the right heart condition'.

  I hope this memorial doesnt backfire ...........

  well,ive decided to go tomorrow night after all.not to my local cong but another one in the city where i have a very good friend and a few distant family members.i dont agree with much of the orgs teachings or promotions,but i do believe in jesus and really just have a very,very powerful urge to pay my respects to him.. i have been telling my "worldly"girlfriend about the religion and naturally,she is quite interested as this was part of my life since an early age.. blow me down she really wants to come with me!so when she walks into the hall tomorrow and gets a very warm welcome it will possibly shock her,after some of the stranger stories i have told her about the faith(vague stories including no xmas,disfellowshipping,no after school activities etc).i have told her that the welcome she receives will be warm and imho genuine too.she is quite a spiritual person anyway and will enjoy the occasion.. my worry would be that she will enjoy it too much and go to a follow up.it is quite probable.she has never had anything to do with jw,s before, till going out with yours truly .. i,m interested in your comments?.

  Meaning: He's too intelligent to accept the teachings of the WTS.

  Love your family less than God

  Meaning: Shun any member of your family that doesnt agree with the WTS

  Can you think of any more...the more humourous the better.

  If we do think differently from the WTS it is OK as long as we do not try to convince others that we are right.

  Thanks for your hard work on this post JW, I know your only trying to help and thats positive thing; however the above comment doesnt really hold true; its never about trying to convince others that we are right; its about debate, critical analysis and broad viewpoints and understanding; this is what the WTS admonishes us against which seems to suggest they dont like to subject their teachings to good all round academic tests.

  Why shouldnt we be able to question, debate and analyse? If it is the truth then surely it will stand the test, wouldnt it?

  apostate literature - i have read the lot.

  you name it - c of c, gentile times reconsidered, thirty tears a watchtower slave, the orwellian world of jehovah's witness, apocalypse delayed, and the freeminds and watchtower observer sites, so on and so on.

  and i have been reading the posts on this site regularly pretty much since it started, and hourglass before it.

  SBF. Congratulations on another widely read and posted thread.

  I dont think you are a troll however, I am prepared to give you the benefit of doubt on this one but I think if you can justify and or downplay the joining of the UN then you are more indoctrinated than you like to admit. Most of us here are here to heal, that is to say (paraphrasing SNG) deconstructing our belief system to its bare bones and starting again but this time allowing our own research and intelligence to be included in this process. You have taken the time to research 'apostate' literature but the fact that you view this literature to be actually apostate and view apostates in a negative way and not free/independent thinkers, indicates your continued indoctrinated disparaged view of people who are prepared to think, assess and analyse.

  I do not agree with you in your previous posts when you say you are not an apostate, if you are an ex JW as you say then you are an apostate, like it or not. That doesnt mean that you feel the need to picket outside KH's or that you eat grannies for breakfast it just means you have turned your back on something that you previously believed to be true.

  Your use of labels indicates that alot of what you were taught as a JW is still engrained and thats natural, many here find the same thoughts springing to mind but the point is my friend is whether you allow those indoctrinated points of view to become fact without question, your downplay, justifications, and general view of others on this site are clear indications that you have only just begun on your journey of discovery and indeed it is set to be a long one. This is 'what is wrong with you', see it, embrace the fact and change for the better.

  This has been discussed in various posts but I think it was Blondie that made me actually think about this whilst I never did during my time in the Borg. It goes to show the whole thing is a big swindle which benefits those at the very top of the WTS.

  my parents went to the assembly this weekend.

  they were telling me about disciplining children... the speaker was saying how all babies are born selfish and demanding for their own needs and not anyone elses.

  the jist of the talk being about discipline, and training children ...ie taking them out for a good beating.. well, i don't know if any of you have ever 'just seen red!

  Welcome Glenwoodswoman, I do see your point and understand where you are coming from however this board for a number of people is their own source of healing, some of us are angry, some are less angry and some are not angry at all, its a question of moving forward in stages and different people are at different stages.
